Kinetics of the reaction of olefin synthesis from methanol and dimethyl ether

The kinetics of the reaction of olefin synthesis from dimethyl ether and methanol is studied. A kinetic model of the nine-route reaction under study is constructed. The constants of the model are estimated using experimental data. The adequacy of the model to the results of experiments is shown     

Highly heat-resistant mullite-silicon carbide materials

Cross-linking additions of silicon carbide and waste material from ferroalloy production make it possible to increase the heat-resistance index for mullite-containing refractories. Corundum concretes based on modified phosphate-containing binders

Physicotechnical properties are provided for concretes based on mechanically-activated phosphate suspensions previously modified with magnesium and aluminum hydroxides and silicic acid. The results obtained demonstrate the efficiency of using modifying additions in order to increase the strength and heat resistance of corundum concretes. Optical properties of doped bismuth telluride crystals in the region of plasma effects

The optical properties of bismuth telluride crystals doped with donor-and acceptor-type impurities are studied. The fact that energy corresponding to the resonance frequency of plasma oscillations of free charge carriers (plasmons) approaches the band-gap energy is detected in the infrared spectral region, where the main elementary excitations in the electronic system of these materials are observed. The mentioned approach of energies varies the intensity of electron-plasmon interaction, which affects the recombination processes in the materials widely used for the fabrication of thermoelectric energy converters.     

Lean philosophy: implementation in a forging company

This research addresses the implementation of lean philosophy in a forging company with a focus on radial forging production flow lines. Here, the prime motive is to evolve and test several strategies to eliminate waste on the shop floor. In this research, a systematic approach is suggested for the implementation of lean principles. This paper describes an application of value stream mapping (VSM). Consequently, the present and future states of value stream maps are constructed to improve the production process by identifying waste and its sources. Furthermore, Taguchi’s method of design of experiments is pursued here to minimize the forging defects produced due to imperfect operating conditions. A noticeable reduction in set-up time and work-in-process (WIP) inventory level is substantiated. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of managerial implications and the future scope of research.     

An efficient electron-beam-pumped semiconductor laser for the green spectral range based on II–VI multilayer nanostructures

Emission characteristics of an electron-beam-pumped Cd(Zn)Se/ZnMgSSe semiconductor laser are studied. The laser’s active region consists of a set of ten equidistant ZnSe quantum wells containing fractional-monolayer CdSe quantum-dot inserts and a waveguide formed by a short-period superlattice with the net thickness of ～0.65 μm. Lasing occurs at room temperature at a wavelength of 542 nm. Pulsed power as high as 12 W per cavity face and an unprecedentedly high efficiency of ～8.5% are attained for the electron-beam energy of 23 keV.     

Total classes of composition systems of discrete signals in isomorphous Galois fields

It is proposed a rule of total classes of composition systems of discrete frequency signals (CDF-signals) construction in extended Galois fields. It is carried out modeling and research a correlation properties of CDF-signals, and determined their practical attraction.     

Specific features of optical orientation and relaxation of electron spins in quantum wells with a large spin splitting

The processes of optical spin orientation and spin relaxation of electrons are treated theoretically for semiconductor quantum wells, in which the spin splitting of the energy spectrum is comparable with the characteristic energy of charge carriers. The density matrix of photoexcited electrons at the instant of optical excitation is obtained in explicit form. A system of kinetic equations describing the behavior of the spin density matrix at an arbitrary relation between the average energy of charge carriers and the spin splitting is derived. It is demonstrated that, upon photoexcitation, a noticeable degree of orientation can be attained only in the pulse mode of operation, when the photoexcitation pulse duration is comparable with the period of spin precession in the field of spin splitting. It is shown that the total spin of the ensemble of electrons exhibits oscillations damping with time; the shape and damping time of the oscillations are sensitive to the parameters of photoexcitation and the spin splitting.     

A Tutorial on GrÖbner Bases With Applications in Signals and Systems

This paper is a tutorial on GrÖbner bases and a survey on the applications of GrÖbner bases in the broad field of signals and systems. A reasonably detailed review is given of several fundamental theoretical issues that occur in the use of GrÖbner bases in multidimensional signals and systems applications. These topics include the primeness of multivariate polynomial matrices, multivariate unimodular polynomial matrix completion, and prime factorization of multivariate polynomial matrices. A brief review is also presented on the wide-ranging applications of GrÖbner bases in multidimensional as well as one-dimensional circuits, networks, control, coding, signals, and systems and other related areas like robotics and applied mechanics. The impact and scope of GrÖbner bases in signals and systems are highlighted with respect to what has already been accomplished as a stepping stone to expanding future research.
