In this paper, the design and analysis of the all-optical up- and down-wavelength converter based on four-wave mixing (FWM) effect of semiconductor optical amplifier Mach–Zehnder interferometer (SOA-MZI) have been presented. The return-to-zero (RZ) modulated data signal at a bit rate of 60 Gbps has been evaluated for error-free operation to show the feasibility of proposed system at different pump wavelength. The converted signal power and quality factor are investigated as the function of variable signal power and pump power. The optimized operating input signal power of ?5 dBm with Q-factor of \(\sim \)28 dB for RZ modulated signal by using SOA-MZI structure with enhanced FWM effect. The important contribution of these investigations that it is possible to expand the optical network with limited available channel bandwidth by utilizing the wavelength converter and gives an approach to implement wavelength converter for future hybrid optical access networks.  相似文献

17β‐Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (17β‐HSDcl) from the filamentous fungus Curvularia lunata (teleomorph Cochliobolus lunatus) catalyzes NADP(H)‐dependent oxidoreductions of androgens and estrogens. Despite detailed biochemical and structural characterization of 17β‐HSDcl, its physiological function remains unknown. On the basis of amino acid sequence alignment, phylogenetic studies, and the recent identification of the physiological substrates of the homologous MdpC from Aspergillus nidulans and AflM from Aspergillus parasiticus, we propose an anthrahydroquinone as the physiological substrate of 17β‐HSDcl. This is also supported by our analysis of a secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene cluster in C. lunata m118, containing 17β‐HSDcl and ten other genes, including a polyketide synthase probably involved in emodin formation. Chemoenzymatic reduction of emodin by 17β‐HSDcl in the presence of sodium dithionite verified this hypothesis. On the basis of these results, the involvement of a 17β‐HSDcl in the biosynthesis of other anthrahydroquinone‐derived natural products is proposed; hence, 17β‐HSDcl should be more appropriately referred to as a polyhydroxyanthracene reductase (PHAR).  相似文献

Inductive logic programming (ILP) is concerned with the induction of logic programs from examples and background knowledge. In ILP, the shift of attention from program synthesis to knowledge discovery resulted in advanced techniques that are practically applicable for discovering knowledge in relational databases. This paper gives a brief introduction to ILP, presents selected ILP techniques for relational knowledge discovery and reviews selected ILP applications. Nada Lavrač, Ph.D.: She is a senior research associate at the Department of Intelligent Systems, J. Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia (since 1978) and a visiting professor at the Klagenfurt University, Austria (since 1987). Her main research interest is in machine learning, in particular inductive logic programming and intelligent data analysis in medicine. She received a BSc in Technical Mathematics and MSc in Computer Science from Ljubljana University, and a PhD in Technical Sciences from Maribor University, Slovenia. She is coauthor of KARDIO: A Study in Deep and Qualitative Knowledge for Expert Systems, The MIT Press 1989, and Inductive Logic Programming: Techniques and Applications, Ellis Horwood 1994, and coeditor of Intelligent Data Analysis in Medicine and Pharmacology, Kluwer 1997. She was the coordinator of the European Scientific Network in Inductive Logic Programming ILPNET (1993–1996) and program cochair of the 8th European Machine Learning Conference ECML’95, and 7th International Workshop on Inductive Logic Programming ILP’97. Sašo Džeroski, Ph.D.: He is a research associate at the Department of Intelligent Systems, J. Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia (since 1989). He has held visiting researcher positions at the Turing Institute, Glasgow (UK), Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), German National Research Center for Computer Science (GMD), Sankt Augustin (Germany) and the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), Heraklion (Greece). His research interest is in machine learning and knowledge discovery in databases, in particular inductive logic programming and its applications and knowledge discovery in environmental databases. He is co-author of Inductive Logic Programming: Techniques and Applications, Ellis Horwood 1994. He is the scientific coordinator of ILPnet2, The Network of Excellence in Inductive Logic Programming. He was program co-chair of the 7th International Workshop on Inductive Logic Programming ILP’97 and will be program co-chair of the 16th International Conference on Machine Learning ICML’99. Masayuki Numao, Ph.D.: He is an associate professor at the Department of Computer Science, Tokyo Institute of Technology. He received a bachelor of engineering in electrical and electronics engineering in 1982 and his Ph.D. in computer science in 1987 from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He was a visiting scholar at CSLI, Stanford University from 1989 to 1990. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Global Intelligence and Machine Learning. Numao is a member of Information Processing Society of Japan, Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, Japanese Cognitive Science Society, Japan Society for Software Science and Technology and AAAI.  相似文献

Preciptated solid materials (PSM) from waste black liquor (WBL), at pH 8·5–9·0, produced from cooking of rice straw in paper mill factories were thermally treated. The cooking process led to decrease in organic material and partial substitution in silica structure. During this cooking process, three probable stages of mass loss comprise removal of moisture, volatile release, and combustion. The chemical analysis depicts the cooking effect on leaching either the high percentage elements (Ca, Na, and K) or some metallic cations (Mn, Cd, Zn and Cu) in the parent rice straw. Silica hydrate, amorphous silica and crystalline silica were obtained at <600°C, 600–700°C and at>800°C, respectively. The infrared spectra show gradual removal of the hydrocarbon bond (C–H), molecular H2O, and sianol group (Si-OH) with temperature. TG, DTA, XRD and SEM were used in this study.  相似文献

The balance between anti-tumor and tumor-promoting immune cells, such as CD4+ Th1 and regulatory T cells (Tregs), respectively, is assumed to dictate the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) markedly shapes the HCC microenvironment, regulating the activation state of multiple leukocyte subsets and driving the differentiation of cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs). The fibrotic (desmoplastic) reaction in HCC tissue strongly depends on CAFs activity. In this study, we attempted to assess the role of TGFβ on transendothelial migration of Th1-oriented and Treg-oriented CD4+ T cells via a direct or indirect, CAF-mediated mechanisms, respectively. We found that the blockage of TGFβ receptor I-dependent signaling in Tregs resulted in impaired transendothelial migration (TEM) of these cells. Interestingly, the secretome of TGFβ-treated CAFs inhibited the TEM of Tregs but not Th1 cells, in comparison to the secretome of untreated CAFs. In addition, we found a significant inverse correlation between alpha-SMA and FoxP3 (marker of Tregs) mRNA expression in a microarray analysis involving 78 HCCs, thus suggesting that TGFβ-activated stromal cells may counteract the trafficking of Tregs into the tumor. The apparent dual behavior of TGFβ as both pro- and anti-tumorigenic cytokines may add a further level of complexity to the mechanisms that regulate the interactions among cancerous, stromal, and immune cells within HCC, as well as other solid tumors, and contribute to better manipulation of the TGFβ signaling as a therapeutic target in HCC patients.  相似文献

Nipah virus is one of the most harmful emerging viruses with deadly effects on both humans and animals. Because of the severe outbreaks, in 2018, the World Health Organization focused on the urgent need for the development of effective solutions against the virus. However, up to date, there is no effective vaccine against the Nipah virus in the market. In the current study, the complete proteome of the Nipah virus (nine proteins) was analyzed for the antigenicity score and the virulence role of each protein, where we came up with fusion glycoprotein (F), glycoprotein (G), protein (V), and protein (W) as the candidates for epitope prediction. Following that, the multitope vaccine was designed based on top-ranking CTL, HTL, and BCL epitopes from the selected proteins. We used suitable linkers, adjuvant, and PADRE peptides to finalize the constructed vaccine, which was analyzed for its physicochemical features, antigenicity, toxicity, allergenicity, and solubility. The designed vaccine passed these assessments through computational analysis and, as a final step, we ran a docking analysis between the designed vaccine and TLR-3 and validated the docked complex through molecular dynamics simulation, which estimated a strong binding and supported the nomination of the designed vaccine as a putative solution for Nipah virus. Here, we describe the computational approach for design and analysis of this vaccine.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate ochratoxin A (OTA) and citrinin (CIT) co-occurrence in different unprocessed cereals (n = 189) originating from Croatia during a three-year investigation period (2014–2016) using validated enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) methods. CIT and OTA were determined in 49% and 7% of samples, respectively. Significantly higher (p < 0.05) overall mean concentrations were determined for CIT (66.8 ± 76.0 µg/kg) in comparison to OTA (5.2 ± 1.1 µg/kg). Based on the analysis of all investigated cereals, CIT was found about 15 times more frequently than OTA and in similarly (15-fold) higher concentrations, irrespective of the cultivation year. The results revealed a moderately positive correlation between OTA and CIT concentrations in maize (rs = 0.44) and wheat (rs = 0.59), whereas in barley and oat this correlation (p > 0.01) was not significant.  相似文献

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the major causes of mortality worldwide. Inflammation is the underlying common mechanism involved in CVD. It has been recently related to amino acid metabolism, which acts as a critical regulator of innate and adaptive immune responses. Among different metabolites that have emerged as important regulators of immune and inflammatory responses, tryptophan (Trp) metabolites have been shown to play a pivotal role in CVD. Here, we provide an overview of the fundamental aspects of Trp metabolism and the interplay between the dysregulation of the main actors involved in Trp metabolism such as indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO) and CVD, including atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction. IDO has a prominent and complex role. Its activity, impacting on several biological pathways, complicates our understanding of its function, particularly in CVD, where it is still under debate. The discrepancy of the observed IDO effects could be potentially explained by its specific cell and tissue contribution, encouraging further investigations regarding the role of this enzyme. Thus, improving our understanding of the function of Trp as well as its derived metabolites will help to move one step closer towards tailored therapies aiming to treat CVD.  相似文献

The present study describes the phytochemical profile and antimicrobial activity of Satureja subspicata Vis. essential oils, collected in Dalmatia (Croatia). Three samples of essential oils were obtained from the aerial parts of the plant by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC–MS. From the 24 compounds representing 97.47% of the oils, carvacrol (16.76%), α-pinene (13.58), p-cymene (10.76%), γ-terpinene (9.54%) and thymol methyl ether (8.83%) appear as the main components. The oils also contained smaller percentages of myrcene, linalool, β-caryophyllene, limonene, geranyl acetate, 1-Octen-3-ol, nerol, thymol and borneol. Furthermore, antimicrobial activity of the oil was evaluated using agar diffusion and broth microdilution methods. The antimicrobial test results showed that the oils had a great potential antimicrobial activity against all 13 bacteria and 9 fungal strains. Gram-positive bacteria are more sensitive to the investigated oil, with a range of 0.09 to 6.25 μl/ml than Gram-negative bacteria in the range which is significantly higher from 1.56 to 25.00 μl/ml. Results presented here may suggest that the essential oil of S. subspicata possesses antimicrobial properties, and is therefore a potential source of antimicrobial ingredients for the food and pharmaceutical industry.  相似文献
