In this work, we assessed the in-vitro effects of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; C20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; C22:6n-3) (final concentration, 15 microM) on T cell blastogenesis, interleukin-2 and -4 (IL-2, IL-4) secretion, fatty acid composition and intracellular oxidative status in type I diabetic patients with or without complications. Con A stimulated lymphocyte proliferation, glucose uptake, intracellular reduced glutathione levels and catalase activity were lower in diabetics as compared to controls, regardless to the presence of complications. EPA and DHA diminished T-lymphocyte proliferation and IL-2 production but enhanced IL-4 secretion in both diabetic and control groups. No changes in the levels of reduced glutathione and in the activities of catalase and SOD were observed in control T cells cultured in the presence of EPA and DHA. However, in diabetic patients, addition of n-3 PUFA to culture induced an increase in T cell levels of reduced glutathione and hydroperoxide, and in activities of catalase and SOD. Low levels of arachidonic acid (C20:4n-6) were found in plasma membrane phospholipids of lymphocytes from diabetic patients compared to controls. Incubation of lymphocytes with EPA and DHA was associated with an incorporation of these fatty acids in membrane phospholipids. In conclusion, the beneficial effects of n-3 PUFA on T cell functions in type I diabetes could be attributed to their suppressive action and modulation of cytokine secretion, and to the improvement of intracellular oxidative status.  相似文献

Porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polyetherimide (PEI) hollow fiber membranes incorporating polyethylene glycol (PEG) were prepared via spinning process for CO2 membrane stripping. CO2 loaded diethanolamine solution was used as liquid absorbent while N2 was used as a strip gas. The characterization study of the fibers was carried out in terms of permeation test, contact angle measurement and liquid entry pressure (wetting pressure). Performance study via membrane contactor stripping was carried out at specific operating condition. The experimental results showed that PVDF membrane have high gas permeation, effective surface porosity and contact angle despite having lower liquid entry pressure in comparison with PEI membrane. PVDF-PEG membrane showed the highest stripping flux of 4.0 × 10−2 mol m−2 s−1 at 0.7 ms−1 compared to that of PEI membrane. Although the stripping flux for PEI-PEG membranes was slightly lower than PVDF membrane (e.g. 3.5 × 10−2 mol m−2 s−1 at liquid velocity of 0.85 ms−1), the membrane wetting pressure of PEI membrane is higher than hydrophobic PVDF membrane. Long term performance of both membranes showed severe flux reduction but started to level-off after 30 h of operation.  相似文献

Friction experiments using several commercial powder metallurgy copper-graphite brushes against an AISI 4340 steel rotor were conducted at sliding velocities ranging from 20 to 235 m s?1. The measured wear rates ranged from a minimum of 4.3 × 10?5 cm km?1 at a sliding velocity of 100 m s?1 for a brush with high graphite content to a maximum of 8.4 × 10?3 cm km?1 at a sliding velocity of 230 m s?1 for a brush with high metal content. The coefficients of friction ranged from a minimum of about 0.08 to a maximum of about 0.47 and were greatly affected by the presence of oxide layers at the sliding interface. Almost all the brushes exhibited some degree of edge breaking. The velocity at which edge breaking occurred was dependent on the powder grain size. Brushes with a large grain size seem to exhibit edge breaking at a lower speed than brushes with a fine grain size. High interface temperatures which occur at high sliding speeds result in melting of the lead-tin binders used in most powder copper-graphite brushes.  相似文献

High speed dry friction experiments of graphite fiber/Cu-Sn matrix composites against steel were conducted at sliding velocities up to 235 m s?1. The composite samples were prepared by the method of liquid metal infiltration. It has been determined that the friction coefficient and the wear rate depend on the amount of tin in the matrix, orientation of fibers relative to the sliding surface, the sliding velocity, the graphite grain size and the degree of liquid metal infiltration within the fibers. The increase in tin content leads to a decrease in both friction and wear due to an increase in matrix hardness. Specimens tested with the fibers oriented perpendicular to the sliding surface exhibit better frictional behavior than those with fibers parallel to the sliding surface. Both friction coefficient and wear rate reach a minimum value at a velocity between about 120 and 180 m s?1. Large graphite grain size and poor liquid metal infiltration within the fibers have a detrimental effect on wear.  相似文献

The statistical characteristics and the orientation of a remotely generated swell superimposed upon a local wind generated rough sea surface are determined from computer simulated polarimetric data. The full wave approach is used to determine the incoherent backscatter Mueller matrix elements and the incoherent backscatter Graves power matrix elements as functions of azimuth angle, the colatitude (angle measured from the vertical axis), and rough sea surface (with swell) parameters. The relationships between the incoherent backscatter Mueller matrix as well as the incoherent backscatter Graves power matrix and the statistical characteristics of the swell and its orientation are presented here. On making suitable selections of the backscatter angle and polarization of the Mueller matrix elements or Graves power matrix elements, it is possible to determine reliably the orientation and statistical characteristics of remotely generated swells. Traditionally only the scattering cross sections are utilized in remote sensing.  相似文献

In this study, two full‐scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors, namely TUASB and CUASB, at the wastewater treatment plants of the Tekirdaǧ Alcohol (Raki) and Canakkale Alcohol (Cognac) distilleries were investigated in terms of performance, acetoclastic methanogenic capacity and microbial composition. The results were compared with a previously studied other UASB reactor (IUASB) at the wastewater treatment plant of the Istanbul Alcohol (Raki) Distillery from which the two reactors (TUASB and CUASB) were seeded. The IUASB reactor performed well achieving COD removal efficiencies of no lower than 85% at organic logding rates (OLRs) in the range of 6–11 kg COD m−3 day−1 between 1996 and 2001. During the last one year of operation, between 2000 and 2001, performance of the CUASB reactor in terms of COD removal efficiency was 70–80% at OLRs in a range of 1–4.5 kg COD m−3 day−1 whereas it was 60–80% at OLRs in a range of 2.5–8.5 kg COD m−3 day−1 in the TUASB reactor. At the end of year 2000, specific methanogenic activity (SMA) tests were carried out to determine potential loading capacity and optimum operating conditions of the IUASB, CUASB and TUASB reactors. The potential methane production (PMP) rates of the CUASB, IUASB and TUASB reactors were measured as 230 cm3 CH4 gVSS−1 day−1, 350 cm3 CH4 gVSS−1 day−1 and 376 cm3 CH4 gVSS−1 day−1 respectively. When the PMP rates were compared with actual methane production (AMP) rates obtained from the three UASB reactors, AMP/PMP ratios were evaluated to be 0.18, 0.12 and 0.13 for CUASB, TUASB and IUASB reactors respectively. This showed that the CUASB, TUASB and IUASB reactors were using only 18%, 12% and 13% of their potential acetoclastic methanogenic capacity respectively. These results can be interpreted that the three UASB reactors were underloaded compared with their potential acetoclastic methanogenic capacities. It was, therefore, recommended that the three UASB reactors should be loaded at higher organic loading rates or sludge withdrawn in order to maintain an AMP/PMP ratio of 0.6–0.7, which can ensure desired reactor performance with safer operation. Results of epifluoresence microscopic examinations showed that the percentage of total autofluorescent methanogens was approximately 30% of the total population in sludges from the TUASB and IUASB reactors whereas it was 20% in sludge from the CUASB reactor. The two UASB reactors treating raki distillery wastewaters contained sludges having a higher percentage of autofluorescent methanogenic population and higher acetoclastic methanogenic activity. A 450 dm3 pilot‐scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor was used for the treatment of a fermentation‐based pharmaceutical wastewater. The UASB reactor performed well up to an organic loading rate (OLR) of 10.7 kg COD m?3 d?1 at which point 94% COD removal efficiency was achieved. This high treatment efficiency did not continue, however and the UASB reactor was then operated at lower OLRs for the remainder of the study. Specific methanogenic activity (SMA) tests were, therefore, carried out to determine the potential loading capacity of the UASB reactor. For this purpose, the SMA tests were carried out at four different initial acetate concentrations, namely 500 mg dm?3, 1000 mg dm?3, 1500 mg dm?3 and 2000 mg dm?3 so that substrate limitation could not occur. The results showed that the sludge sample taken from the UASB reactor (OLR of 6.1 kg COD m?3 d?1) had a potential acetoclastic methane production (PMP) rate of 72 cm3 CH4 g?1 VSS d?1. When the PMP rate was compared with the actual methane production rate (AMP) of 67 cm3 CH4 g?1 VSS d?1 obtained from the UASB reactor, the AMP/PMP ratio was found to be 0.94 which ensured that the UASB reactor was operated using its maximum potential acetoclastic methanogenic capacity. In order to achieve higher OLRs with desired COD removal efficiencies it was recommended that the UASB reactor should be loaded with suitable OLRs pre‐determined by SMA tests. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The development of integrated automation systems for continuous production plants is a very complicated process. A variety of factors must be taken into account, such as their different components (e.g., production units control systems, planning systems, financial systems, etc.), the interaction among them, and their different behavior (continuous or discrete). Moreover, the difficulty of this process is increased by the fact that each component can be viewed in a different way depending on the kind of decisions to be made, and its specific behavior. Modeling continuous production complexes as a composition of components, where, in turn, each component may also be a composite, appears to be the simplest and safest way to develop integrated automation systems. In order to provide the most versatile way to develop this kind of system, this work proposes a new approach for designing and building them, where process behavior, operation conditions and equipment conditions are integrated into a hierarchical automation architecture.  相似文献

This paper presents a supervisory control scheme based on hybrid systems theory and fuzzy events detection. The fuzzy event detector is a linguistic model, which synthesizes complex relations between process variables and process events incorporating experts' knowledge about the process operation. This kind of detection allows the anticipation of appropriate control actions, which depend upon the selected membership functions used to characterize the process under scrutiny. The proposed supervisory control scheme was successfully implemented for an oxichlorination reactor in a vinyl monomer plant. This implementation has allowed improvement of reactor stability and reduction of raw material consumption.  相似文献

The unified full wave approach is used to determine the tilt modulation of the like- and cross-polarized (high-resolution) radar backscatter cross sections for the rough sea surface. Real or synthetic aperture radars (SARs) with small effective footprints (resolution cells) are considered. Since the unified full-wave approach accounts for Bragg scattering as well as specular point scattering in a self-consistent manner, it is not necessary to adopt a two-scale model for the rough sea surface. The sea surface slope probability density function is assumed to be Gaussian. The backscattering cross sections are evaluated for all angles of incidence (normal to grazing). For tilts in the plane of incidence, the modulation of all the cross sections is largest at angles of incidence of 10°. The cross-section modulation due to tilts perpendicular to the plane of incidence critically depends on the incident and scattered polarizations. The effective filtering of the large-scale spectral components of the rough sea surface by the high-resolution radar is accounted for, and the dependence of the cross-section tilt modulation on the size of the effective footprint is determined  相似文献
