The present study investigates how sudden changes in fuel moisture affected the combustion characteristics of the fuel bed in a 4-MW reciprocating-grate furnace. The moisture content of the fuel fed to the furnace was monitored online using a near-infrared spectroscopy device, and the water vapor concentration in the flue gas was measured continuously. To obtain experimental data on fuel-bed conditions, the temperature and gas composition in the bed were measured using a probe. A simplified drying model was developed using the measured gas composition values as inputs. The model was then used to estimate the drying rate and to simulate the extent of the drying zone along the grate. Measurements indicated that a change in the moisture content of the fuel fed to the furnace was detected as a change in water vapor concentration in the flue gas with a delay of about 2 h. The model predicted that a portion of wet fuel would need about 2 h to become dry, in line with the measured time delay of the water vapor concentration change in the flue gas. Overall, there was good alignment between the measured and simulated results, supporting the validity of the model and the assumed mechanisms.  相似文献

Asphaltene deposition has a significant detrimental effect on oilfield production. The key to effective treatment of asphaltene deposition is recognition of the problem. Asphaltene and effective treatment can be identified and quantified using laboratory methods. The most commonly way to asphaltene precipitation reduction is applying an asphaltene inhibitor. Most researchers investigate the effect of asphaltene inhibitors on fluid and precipitation reduction in static tests. This study is a coherent approach to measure effect of asphaltene precipitation on reservoir permeability and survey effect of asphaltene inhibitors on damage permeability.  相似文献

Space heating and cooling represent 63% of total building energy demand. In the present study, the concept of concrete foundation piles was used as an underground storage medium. This system requires no additional drilling costs or space, unlike conventional boreholes. A laboratory-scaled experiment facility was designed to experimentally investigate the thermal response of a concrete pile during the charging and discharging processes. The amount of energy stored and released during each process was evaluated. A flow rate parametric study was also conducted to explore the effect of the laminar and turbulent flow behavior. In order to complement the experimental study, an extensive CFD model was developed and compared with the experimental data. There was good agreement between the numerical and experimental results for each process at different flow rates. The results revealed that increasing the flow rate increases not only the heat rejection and extraction but also the storage efficiency.  相似文献

A new control chart, namely, modified exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart, for monitoring the process variance is introduced in this work by following the recommendations of Khan et al.15 The proposed control chart deduces the existing charts to be its special cases. The necessary coefficients, which are required for the construction of modified EWMA chart, are determined for various choices of sample sizes and smoothing constants. The performance of the proposed modified EWMA is evaluated in terms of its run length (RL) characteristics such as average RL and standard deviation of RL. The efficiency of the modified EWMA chart is investigated and compared with some existing control charts. The comparison reveals the superiority of proposal as compared with other control charts in terms of early detection of shift in process variation. The application of the proposal is also demonstrated using a real-life dataset.  相似文献

Using black coatings and materials with high light absorbance that are capable of absorbing photons at visible and longer wavelengths is a very effective way to reduce unwanted stray light, also known as optical noise, within optical equipment. These lights can be greatly reduced to a reasonable level by functional and performable black coatings that are modified to absorb incident light as much as possible by their specific pigments. In the present work, several carbonaceous pigments were synthesized for the first time from wasteful materials and their optical properties in the visible and near‐infrared ranges studied. First, MCM‐48 and SBA‐15 were synthesized at different conditions and were then used as templates for carbonaceous products. SSS‐1 (the carbonic pigment synthesized by the mixture of sucrose and sodium silicate), SSS‐2 (the carbonic pigment synthesized by the mixture of sawdust and sodium silicate), and mesoporous carbon pigments (CMK‐3 and CMK‐1 with different levels of saturations) were synthesized. Finally, their structure, morphology, and optical properties were investigated by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE‐SEM), and Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS). The results indicated that the SSS‐1 pigment had a lower reflectance (below 1%) than carbon black (about 2.5%) in the visible region despite it being more cost‐effective than carbon black. The mesoporous pigments showed very high light absorbance in the visible region (about 2.5%). Compared with other black pigments, the CMK‐1 was the blackest synthesized material with a very low reflectance (about 0.05% in visible region), making it an ideal candidate as a super black pigment for reducing unwanted stray light within optical equipment.  相似文献

Cancer is one of the most common death causes worldwide. Breast and genital cancers in women and prostate cancer in men constitute three of the most common cancers. Detection and prevention of these types of cancers are critical objectives. Recent findings indicate that some patients suffer from cancer comorbidity. The probability of survival among patients with comorbid condition is lower than those with only one type of cancer. The importance of concomitant chronic illnesses during cancer treatment through the SEER data is assessed through many machine‐learning approaches. In order to improve the accuracy of prediction of survival rates in patients with cancer and comorbidity of cancers, the gradient boosting ensemble method is adopted for feature selection and modelling. This proposed method increases the accuracy rate and reduces the error rate, and exhibits a significant predictive improvement of survival rates in comorbid cancer compared with the previous proposed models.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new efficiency measure that aims at capturing the overall distance to the efficient frontier and not the distance corresponding to a specific projection, as most oriented and non‐oriented methods compute. The proposed approach uses a grid‐based method to sample all possible improvement directions from a given operating point and for each direction it computes a directional efficiency score solving a directional distance function model. This provides information about the distribution of the distance to the efficient frontier. Therefore, the proposed multidirectional efficiency measure does not provide a single efficiency score but a distribution of efficiency scores. The minimum, the median, the Q1 and Q3 quartiles and the maximum can be singled out as representatives of that distribution. The latter corresponds to the closest among the computed efficient targets. In addition to the efficiency score distribution, the associated efficient targets are also provided. The proposed approach can take into account integer and nondiscretionary variables and a preference structure. An application of the method to assess the efficiency of material recovery facilities is presented.  相似文献
