This work investigates oxidative decolorization of two different dyes, Methylene blue and Titan yellow in aqueous solution using an environmentally friendly advanced electro-chemical oxidation (electro-Fenton) process. The effect of operating conditions like H2O2 concentration, current density, initial dye concentration was studied in a batch stirred cell. Individual decolorization decay kinetics for both dyes was investigated. The second-order absolute rate constants (L mol?1 s?1) between hydroxyl radical and dye have been calculated from experimental data by fitting it to the decolorization model. The apparent kinetic constants, k app (s?1) for Methylene blue and Titan yellow dye decolorization were also determined. The experimental data showed a good fit to the theoretical model, which can predict data in a wide range of % dye decolorization. This process also reduces COD of the dye solution, and the unit energy demand (UED) in kWh/kg COD removed for different electrical current has been reported.  相似文献

This investigation reports the effective use of the Diels–Alder (DA) click reaction in the preparation of self-healing bio-based dendritic methacrylates having reactive furfuryl functionality. Bio-based methacrylates were synthesized by modifying tannic acid with glycidyl methacrylate and furfuryl functionality was introduced by atom transfer radical polymerization with varied amount of furfuryl methacrylate monomer. The thermoreversible network was successfully achieved by DA and retro-DA reaction between the furfuryl groups and a bifunctional maleimide crosslinker, bismaleimide. This process was studied by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and solvent exposure tests. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis was used to determine the endothermic retro-DA reaction in the DA adduct. The self-healing property of the above crosslinked material was demonstrated by monitoring the repair of a scratch in the polymer film upon heating and cooling. Alumina‐chrome (Al2O3–Cr2O3) refractories with Al2O3:Cr2O3 molar ratio 1:1 were synthesized in the temperature range of 1400–1700°C by conventional solid–oxide reaction route. The effect of different aluminas (viz., hydrated and calcined) on the densification, microstructure, and properties of Al2O3–Cr2O3 refractories was investigated without changing the Cr2O3 source. The starting materials were analyzed to determine the chemical composition, mineralogy, density, surface area, and particle size. Sintered materials were characterized in terms of densification, phase assemblage, and mechanical strength at room temperature and at higher temperatures. Microstructural evolution at different sintering temperature was correlated with sintering characteristics. It can be concluded that the Al2O3–Cr2O3 refractories prepared with hydrated alumina as Al2O3 source show better densification and hot mechanical strength than corresponding calcined variety.  相似文献

Atom transfer radical polymerization of 1‐allylindole‐3‐carbaldehyde (AIC) was studied by employing 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide as initiator in toluene. It led to controlled radical polymerization of AIC, with an increase of molecular weight along with the conversion of the monomer, and a relatively narrow molar mass distribution was obtained, as determined by gel permeation chromatography. The living nature of poly(1‐allylindole‐3‐carbaldehyde) (PAIC) was confirmed by the chain extension polymerization whereas 1H NMR analysis showed that the major population of PAIC retained the chain‐end functional group. PAIC and its silver nanocomposite were found to be biologically active against some tested bacterial pathogens. Minimum inhibitory concentration tests revealed that PAIC exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis and Klebsiella pneumonae whereas PAIC/Ag nanocomposite showed antibacterial activity against Enterococcus faecalis and K. pneumonae. © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

SO2 emissions from various sources are found to occur in various concentrations and quantities. Abatement of SO2 emission, therefore, assumes significant importance over the decades. Wet scrubbers offer great advantage over other devices for gas cleaning. That is the reason that compliance with SO2 standards will in many cases result in the installation of scrubbing devices. This article presents results of a study on the scrubbing of SO2 (initial concentration ranging between 400 and 1780 ppm) in a tapered bubble column scrubber using water and dilute sodium alkali. Preliminary studies reveal that the tapered bubble column is capable of generating higher fractional gas holdup than a standard bubble column under similar situations. Moreover, the tapered bubble column has generated bubbles with less power consumption than the existing columns under comparable hydrodynamical conditions. Experimental results indicate that almost 100% SO2 removal (i.e., zero penetration) can be achieved in the scrubber developed in alkali scrubbing at an optimum QL/QG ratio of 3.0 m3/1000 ACM. The selection of any gas-cleaning device is based on the performance of the system. In view of this, empirical and semi-empirical correlations are put forward for the prediction of the performance of the scrubber in terms of different pertinent variables of the system for water as well as alkali scrubbing. Experimental results fit extremely well with the correlations. The removal efficiency achievable in the present tapered bubble column scrubber has been found to be higher than that of a single-stage standard bubble column with some modification. The present tapered bubble column is, therefore, hydrodynamically, energetically, and efficiency-wise much better than a standard bubble column.  相似文献

The aerosol optical depth (AOD), Angstrom coefficients (α and β), and the second-order Angstrom exponent (α′) obtained by Microtops-II sun photometer have been analyzed in the spectral range 0.34–0.87 μm over the urban polluted city of Delhi, India for the period 2007–2008, aiming at investigating the physical and optical properties of aerosols. The average values of AOD at 500 nm, α and β (in the range 340–870 nm) are found to be 0.78 ± 0.32, 0.78 ± 0.28, and 0.45 ± 0.21, respectively, for the entire period of observations. The AOD data show significant curvature in the lnτ versus lnλ relationship suggesting different dominant aerosol types depending on season. In order to analyze further the curvature effect and the relative dominance of aerosol size, α has been calculated in three wavelength bands, i.e., shorter (0.34–0.50 μm), longer (0.675–0.87 μm), and broad (0.34–0.87 μm) during four seasons, summer (April–June), monsoon (July–September), winter (October–January), and spring (February–March) accompanied with calculations of α′, which quantifies the deviation of logarithmic behavior of AOD with lnλ. The α′ values are found to be positive and higher in the months of October–December and mostly negative in February and March, while close to zero values of α′ are found in April–August. These results indicate that winter season exhibits dominance of fine-mode aerosols while summer relatively higher concentration of coarse-mode particles. On the other hand, monsoon and spring seasons revealed the presence of mixed type, both fine- and coarse-mode aerosols over Delhi.  相似文献

Hemp fibre‐reinforced polycaprolactone (HFRP) composite has inherent good mechanical properties and benefits which include remarkably high specific strength and modulus, low density, and renewability. No doubt, these properties have attracted wider applications of HFRP composite in engineering applications. This paper presents an investigation on the influence of drilling parameters and fibre aspect ratios, AR (0, 19, 26, 30, and 38) on delamination damage factor and surface roughness of HFRP composite laminates utilising high speed steel twist drills under dry machining condition. Taguchi's technique was used in the design of experiment. The results obtained show that increase in cutting speed reduces delamination factor and surface roughness of drilled holes, whereas increase in feed rate causes increase in both delamination factor and surface roughness. Feed rate and cutting speed had the greatest influence on delamination and surface roughness respectively when compared with aspect ratio, while an increase in fibre aspect ratios leads to a significant increase in both delamination factor and surface roughness. The optimum results occurred at cutting speed and feed rate (drilling parameters) of 20 mm/min and 0.10 mm/rev, respectively, when drilling sample of AR 19. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Nanocrystalline pure α-Fe2O3 powder, with an average particle size of 35 nm, has been synthesized by using an aqueous solution-based synthetic route. DC electrical resistivity of the synthesized material was measured with respect to temperature by the two-probe method from 28° to 225°C. Room temperature resistivity of the nanopowder was ∼108Ω·cm. Magnetic hysteresis measurement revealed that the synthesized α-Fe2O3 nanopowder exhibited ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature. The hysteretic features are high saturation magnetization of 5.1 emu/g, high remanence of 2.2 emu/g, and coercivity of 200.5 Oe.  相似文献

In the present study, laser surface alloying of aluminium with WC + Co + NiCr (in the ratio of 70:15:15) has been conducted using a 5 kW continuous wave (CW) Nd:YAG laser (at a beam diameter of 0.003 m), with the output power ranging from 3 to 3.5 kW and scan speed from 0.012 m/s to 0.04 m/s by simultaneous feeding of precursor powder (at a flow rate of 1 × 10− 5 kg/s) and using He shroud at a gas flow rate of 3 × 10− 6 m3/s. The effect of laser power and scan speed on the characteristics (microstructures, phases and composition) and properties (wear and corrosion resistance) of the surface alloyed layer have been investigated in details. Laser surface alloying leads to development of fine grained aluminium with the dispersion of WC, W2C, Al4C3, Al9Co2, Al3Ni, Cr23C6, and Co6W6C. The microhardness of the alloyed zone is significantly improved to a maximum value of 650 VHN as compared to 22 VHN of the as-received aluminium substrate. The mechanism of microhardness enhancement has been established. The fretting wear behavior of the alloyed zone was evaluated against WC by Ball-on-disc wear testing unit and the mechanism of wear was established.  相似文献
