An analysis technique to assess the viability of digital image correlation (DIC) in tracking the full‐field strains across the surface of hanging historic tapestries is presented. Measurement uncertainty related to the use of the inherent tapestry image in tracking displacements is investigated through use of “synthetic” deformation fields. The latter are generated by mapping the details of a given tapestry image into finite element analyses. The combination of self‐weight loading, material non‐linearity, and image specific heterogeneity (related to slit stitching, damage, and patch‐restorations) serve to generate a bespoke deformation field complex enough to assess the reliability of DIC measurements. Accuracy is evaluated by comparing measured results with the original known deformations. The technique demonstrates that the optimum imaging settings and the choice of subset size for DIC analysis are strongly influenced by the tapestry image and the goal of the measurement, they are found using a compromise between conflicting objectives: minimising measurement error while maximising resolution.  相似文献

The recently proposed biomimetic method has been performed on samples of poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) p(HEMA) hydrogel in order to improve their interface with bone. Following the biomimetic process it was possible to obtain a bioactive hydroxyapatite coating on the p(HEMA) substrates. FTIR analysis showed that characteristic peaks of p(HEMA) progressively disappear, owing to the formation of a surface coating. In fact new peaks appear corresponding to the ones of P-O stretching (1116 and 1035 cm–1) and P-O bending (580 cm–1) vibration modes, thus suggesting that the method is effective in promoting the formation of a surface phosphate layer. The formation of hydroxyapatite crystals is confirmed by SEM and EDS results. The adhesive strength was measured and turned out to be higher than the one reported for PMMA substrate. The experimental results suggest that, as reported in the literature for other supports, the silicate ions released from the glass in the first stage bind themselves to the polymeric support.  相似文献

[FeFe]-hydrogenases contain a complex [4Fe–4S]-2Fe cluster (H-cluster) and are able to efficiently reduce protons to H2. Due to their potential exploitation for renewable energy production biotechnologies, significant efforts have been put into understanding the mechanisms driving the H-cluster assembly, which involves three conserved proteins. Among them, HydF works as scaffold upon which the H-cluster precursor is synthesized and carrier to deliver it to the hydrogenase, resulting in its activation. A FeS cluster binding sequence (CxHx46-53HCxxC) is conserved in all HydF proteins and should in principle provide four ligands to coordinate the Fe atom. However, we found that alternative metal coordination may exist in different HydF proteins and that only the three cysteines are strictly required, whereas the fourth ligand may vary and is, in any case, readily exchangeable. In this work we analyzed by EPR/HYSCORE the FeS cluster proton environment of HydF from Thermotoga neapolitana to determine the possible role of surrounding residues in the non-cysteinyl iron ligation of the protein.  相似文献

We demonstrate a semiconductor laser-based approach which enables plasmonic active devices in the telecom wavelength range. We show that optimized laser structures based on tensile-strained InGaAlAs quantum wells-coupled to integrated metallic patternings-enable surface plasmon generation in an electrically driven compact device. Experimental evidence of surface plasmon generation is obtained with the slit-doublet experiment in the near-field, using near-field scanning optical microscopy measurements.  相似文献

Graphene growth by low-pressure chemical vapor deposition on low cost copper foils shows great promise for large scale applications. It is known that the local crystallography of the foil influences the graphene growth rate. Here we find an epitaxial relationship between graphene and copper foil. Interfacial restructuring between graphene and copper drives the formation of (n10) facets on what is otherwise a mostly Cu(100) surface, and the facets in turn influence the graphene orientations from the onset of growth. Angle resolved photoemission shows that the electronic structure of the graphene is decoupled from the copper indicating a weak interaction between them. Despite this, two preferred orientations of graphene are found, ±8° from the Cu[010] direction, creating a non-uniform distribution of graphene grain boundary misorientation angles. Comparison with the model system of graphene growth on single crystal Cu(110) indicates that this orientational alignment is due to mismatch epitaxy. Despite the differences in symmetry the orientation of the graphene is defined by that of the copper. We expect these observations to not only have importance for controlling and understanding the growth process for graphene on copper, but also to have wider implications for the growth of two-dimensional materials on low cost metal substrates.   相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of different crop sequences (soybean-corn and soybean?Csoybean) and tillage systems (no tillage and reduced tillage) on nitrous oxide (N2O) soil emissions under field conditions. The experiment was carried out in Manfredi, Córdoba province, Argentina on an Entic Haplustoll and N2O emissions were measured in the field during a year. N2O fluxes were low during winter, but in late spring it peaked. For fallow, N-NO3-content was the most important variable to explain N2O emissions. For growing period water-filled pores was the main variable explaining N2O emissions. Nitrogen fertilization of corn crop increased N2O-N emissions, whereas no significant differences were found due to the tillage system. Measured annual N2O-N emissions were generally lower than those calculated using the methodology proposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  相似文献

Silica nanoparticles were obtained through the Stöber method, from mixtures of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS). The nanoparticles were dispersed in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and coupled to bisphenol A epoxy resin (DGEBA) through surface amino groups. After removing THF non-isothermal cure was performed at different heating rates (2–20°C/min), using imidazole (2–4 wt%) as curing agent. For the sake of comparison bare DGEBA epoxy polymers were also prepared with similar schedule A nanocomposite of well-dispersed silica nanoparticles (5 wt%) in a fully cured epoxy matrix was easily obtained. Lower cure kinetics were observed with silica addition. This was attributed to reduction of the imidazole volume concentration. Cure activation energy was not influenced by silica presence, whereas it changed with the imidazole content. Therefore, experimental results suggested that silica had only an indirect effect (the reduction of the imidazole molar concentration) on the epoxy matrix cure kinetics. Glass transformation temperatures, T g, as high as 175°C were recorded. The nanocomposite glass transformation temperature depended on the heating rate of the cure process, the imidazole and silica content. T g changes as high as 40°C were detected as a function of the heating rate. At higher imidazole content no differences in T g values between bare polymer and the nanocomposite were observed. This suggests that a higher imidazole content assures a better interconnection between the compatibilizing epoxy shell around the nanoparticles and the epoxy matrix. The new proposed methodology is an easy route to engineer both nanocomposites structure and interfacial interactions, thus tailoring their properties.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3-D) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging is a recent technique, based on coherent SAR data combination, and aims to obtain a full 3-D analysis in space. It is a multibaseline extension of the SAR interferometry concept and offers new options for the analysis and monitoring of ground scenes by means of the capability of separating the scattering phenomena along the height dimension. In this work, the authors summarise and extend the results obtained by processing real ERS satellite urban data characterised by a long time span of acquisition and non-uniformly spaced satellite passes, comparing the performance in height focusing obtained with a singular value decomposition (SVD)-based method and adaptive beamforming.  相似文献

In this work, experimental results about poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) based nanocomposites filled with various amounts of silica nanoparticles (NPs) are reported. Two different types of filler are used: silica gel NPs, produced through the Stöber method, and a commercial fumed silica, both coated by a PBT shell. Melt‐mixed samples have been thoroughly investigated by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, wide and small angle X‐ray diffraction, and dynamic mechanical analysis. A fine and very good dispersion of NPs into the polymeric matrix is revealed through the morphological analysis when Stöber NPs were used as filler with respect to systems including commercial fumed silica particles. This evidence, combined with matrix–filler interactions revealed by FTIR spectroscopy, justifies the enhancement of both storage modulus and glass transition temperature of the former samples in comparison with reference pristine PBT. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
