We describe an ultrasensitive pump-probe spectrometer for transient absorption measurements in the gas phase and in solution. The tunable UV pump and the visible (450-740 nm) probe pulses are generated by two independently tunable noncollinear optical parametric amplifiers, providing a temporal resolution of 20 fs. A homebuilt low gain photodetector is used to accommodate strong probe pulses with a shot noise significantly lower than the overall measurement noise. A matched digitizing scheme for single shot analysis of the light pulses at kilohertz repetition rates that minimizes the electronic noise contributions to the transient absorption signal is developed. The data processing scheme is optimized to yield best suppression of the laser excess noise and thereby transient absorbance changes down to 1.1 x 10(-6) can be resolved. A collinear focusing geometry optimized for a 50 mm interaction length combined with a heatable gas cell allows us to perform measurements on substances with low vapor pressures, e.g., on medium sized molecules which are crystalline at room temperature. As an application example highlighting the capability of this instrument, we present the direct time-domain observation of the ultrafast excited state intramolecular proton transfer of 2-(2(')-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole in the gas phase. We are able to compare the resulting dynamics in the gas phase and in solution with a temporal precision of better than 5 fs.  相似文献

This paper describes the construction of a loading machine for performing in vivo, dynamic mechanical loading of the rodent forearm. The loading machine utilizes a unique type of electromagnetic actuator with no mechanically resistive components (servotube), allowing highly accurate loads to be created. A regression analysis of the force created by the actuator with respect to the input voltage demonstrates high linear correlation (R(2) = 1). When the linear correlation is used to create dynamic loading waveforms in the frequency (0.5-10 Hz) and load (1-50 N) range used for in vivo loading, less than 1% normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) is computed. Larger NRMSE is found at increased frequencies, with 5%-8% occurring at 40 Hz, and reasons are discussed. Amplifiers (strain gauge, linear voltage displacement transducer (LVDT), and load cell) are constructed, calibrated, and integrated, to allow well-resolved dynamic measurements to be recorded at each program cycle. Each of the amplifiers uses an active filter with cutoff frequency at the maximum in vivo loading frequencies (50 Hz) so that electronic noise generated by the servo drive and actuator are reduced. The LVDT and load cell amplifiers allow evaluation of stress-strain relationships to determine if in vivo bone damage is occurring. The strain gauge amplifier allows dynamic force to strain calibrations to occur for animals of different sex, age, and strain. Unique features are integrated into the loading system, including a weightless mode, which allows the limbs of anesthetized animals to be quickly positioned and removed. Although the device is constructed for in vivo axial bone loading, it can be used within constraints, as a general measurement instrument in a laboratory setting.  相似文献

The 1200°C and 1300°C isothermal and cyclic oxidation behavior of Al2O3 continuous fiber (Saphikon)-reinforced/ NiAl composites were studied. Oxidation resulted in formation of Al2O3 external scales in a similar manner as scales formed on monolithic NiAl. The isothermal oxidation of an Al2O3/NiAl composite resulted in oxidation of the matrix along the fiber/matrix interface near the fiber ends. This oxide acted as a wedge between the fiber and matrix, and, under cyclic oxidation conditions, led to further oxidation along the fiber lengths and eventual cracking of the composite. The oxidation behavior of composites in which the Al2O3 fibers were sputter coated with nickel prior to processing was much more severe. This was attributed to open channels around the fibers which formed during processing most likely as a result of the diffusion of the nickel coating into the matrix.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The hardness, porosity, and adaptation of removable partial dentures fabricated with one heat-polymerized denture base resin and two resins designed for microwave polymerization were evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five prostheses were evaluated for each resin. Adaptation of the denture bases to the master cast was evaluated by spatial orientation and mean weight of residual impression material. The prostheses were than embedded in epoxy resin and sectioned for evaluation of resin hardness (Knoop hardness) and microporosity. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in the adaptation of the acrylic resin bases for Acron MC and Ch Lucitone. There was no significant difference in the mean Knoop hardness values for any of the resin bases near and away from the metal. None of the denture bases showed porosity greater than 100 microns. CONCLUSIONS: Both resin bases formulated for microwave polymerization were effectively polymerized around metal frameworks without adverse effects on resin hardness or porosity. Justi Denture Base material had poorer base adaptation than the other two resins.  相似文献

A wet chemical technique was used to prepare Na1+xZr2SixP3?xO12. The precursor was prepared using a finely divided silica sol and a fine zirconia slurry mixed with a solution of sodium carbonate and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate. The mixture was dried by flash evaporation and then calcined at 750°C. The effect of sintering conditions and atmosphere on density and phase formation in the system was examined. Single phase material was obtained by controlling the soda loss during processing.  相似文献

As part of a continuing program to understand and optimize the magnetic behavior of Co-Fe-Cu-Ce permanent magnet alloys, we have made studies on the alloy system Co3.5Fe0.5CuCexwith x in the range 0.8 to 1.2. An alloy of x = 1 had previously been studied in detail and found to have good permanent magnet properties. In the present work, it was found that when x > 1, the coercive force was increased while both the Curie temperature and saturation magnetization were decreased. However when x < 1, the coercive force tends to decrease while the Curie temperature and saturation magnetization increase. The increase in coercive force with increase in cerium content can be accounted for largely by the decrease in saturation magnetization. These results are in accord with a domain wall pinning mechanism. Scanning electron microscopy studies have shown that a major second phase in the low cerium alloys is low in copper as compared with the matrix. On the contrary, the copper content of the second phase in the high cerium alloys is larger than that in the matrix.  相似文献
