Expression of progesterone receptor (PR) in various organs of sexually immature chickens and after estrogen treatment was studied by immunohistochemical and Western blotting analyses. Constitutive PR expression was observed in the mesothelium and stroma of the esophagus, proventriculus, liver, spleen, pancreas, heart and lung. In the urogenital tract, PR was expressed in the mesothelial and stromal cells and smooth muscle of blood vessels. Estrogen treatment induced PR expression in the stroma and smooth muscle of the gall bladder and in the epithelium and stroma of the trachea. In the ovary of immature chickens PR was localized in the epithelium, stroma and smooth muscle and was induced in the granulosal cells by estrogen. In most tissues there was more PR-B than PR-A expression and this PR-B dominance remained after estrogen treatment. These results suggest that progesterone and estrogen may have physiological effects on many organs outside the genital tract not previously known as steroid-target tissues.  相似文献

Ss in 2 studies were asked to report on 32 emotional states. Ss were asked to remember instances of experiencing these states and, for each experience, to fill out a questionnaire on appraisal dimensions and action readiness modes. Appraisal patterns as well as patterns of action readiness show distinct relations to various emotional categories, or names; the contributions of both kinds of components to emotion distinction are in part independent and additive. Multiple correlations, predicting action readiness scores from appraisal scores, demonstrated significant relations between particular modes of action readiness and particular appraisal patterns. The results of these studies are interpreted as providing support for the view that emotions can be regarded both as experiences of forms of appraisal and as states of action readiness. A modification of the Doty extended aortoplasty for supravalvular aortic stenosis has been recently adopted. This modification, which entails placement of an additional patch in the left coronary sinus, results in a more symmetric aortic root. Thermally reversible poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PIPAAm) was covalently grafted onto tissue culture dishes to allow detachment of cultured cells upon temperature change from physiological to room temperature. In addition the grafted polymer matrix was used to entrap biomolecules such as growth factors either to be released by diffusion early in cell cultures, or remain entrapped and be reversibly exposed to cell receptors. Experiments with model proteins trypsin and insulin show that amount loaded and released depends upon the PIPAAm grafting density. Dishes grafted with 2.5 microgram/cm2 PIPAAm released approximately four times more model protein over 4 h than dishes grafted with 1.8 microgram/cm2. This in vitro drug delivery system can be used to deliver factors to the basal side of cells early in cell culture by providing high local concentrations without high bulk concentration. Cultures of human retinal pigmented epithelium showed higher growth rate on insulin loaded dishes than on controls containing a similar bulk solution concentration. These cultures retained the ability to detach singly or as confluent sheets from the loaded surfaces.  相似文献

Continuous fermentations using Clostridium spp. DSM 2152 immobilised in calcium alginate beads to produce butanol and isopropanol from glucose were carried out in a fluidised bed reactor with liquid recycle (FBR, 10.9 dm3 working volume, 41 % solids) and in a gas lift loop reactor (GLR, 11.4 dm3 working volume, 32% solids). In the FBR in-situ produced non-coalescing gas bubbles had a negligible influence on the fluidisation pattern and the steady state results of the fermentation were in accordance with those predicted by a reactor model. The FBR was operated reliably for 5 weeks without decrease of activity. The GLR behaved as a three phase reactor because of the recycled fermentation gas. The steady state fermentation results were as predicted by the GLR model. Scale up to a 50 m3 FBR and a 65 m3 GLR led to development of a plug flow with recycle model for the FBR and a stirred tank model for the GLR. On the basis of overall reactor performance and ease of integration with a simultaneous product recovery the FBR is preferred to the GLR for application in a large scale butanol/isopropanol process using immobilised Clostridia spp.  相似文献

Die automatisiert erstellten Protokolle sind h?ufig sehr lückenhaft und wenig aussagekr?ftig. In der Praxis finden die Protokollierungsfunktionen aufgrund fehlender Standards und ihrer unzureichenden Auspr?gung kaum Anwendung. Gleichwohl ist die Protokollierung ein unverzichtbarer Bestandteil der Sicherheitskonzeption. In der Praxis muss man sich derzeit mangels geeigneter Werkzeuge mit einer Kombination aus einer automatisierten und manuellen Protokollierung behelfen. Several philosophical issues in connection with computer simulations rely on the assumption that results of simulations are trustworthy. Examples of these include the debate on the experimental role of computer simulations (Parker in Synthese 169(3):483–496, 2009; Morrison in Philos Stud 143(1):33–57, 2009), the nature of computer data (Barberousse and Vorms, in: Durán, Arnold (eds) Computer simulations and the changing face of scientific experimentation, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, Barcelona, 2013; Humphreys, in: Durán, Arnold (eds) Computer simulations and the changing face of scientific experimentation, Cambridge Scholars Publishing, Barcelona, 2013), and the explanatory power of computer simulations (Krohs in Int Stud Philos Sci 22(3):277–292, 2008; Durán in Int Stud Philos Sci 31(1):27–45, 2017). The aim of this article is to show that these authors are right in assuming that results of computer simulations are to be trusted when computer simulations are reliable processes. After a short reconstruction of the problem of epistemic opacity, the article elaborates extensively on computational reliabilism, a specified form of process reliabilism with computer simulations located at the center. The article ends with a discussion of four sources for computational reliabilism, namely, verification and validation, robustness analysis for computer simulations, a history of (un)successful implementations, and the role of expert knowledge in simulations.  相似文献

Rupture risk assessment is a key to devise patient‐specific treatment plans of cerebral aneurysms. To understand and predict the development of aneurysms and other vascular diseases over time, both hemodynamic flow patterns and their effect on the vessel surface need to be analyzed. Flow structures close to the vessel wall often correlate directly with local changes in surface parameters, such as pressure or wall shear stress. Yet, in many existing applications, the analyses of flow and surface features are either somewhat detached from one another or only globally available. Especially for the identification of specific blood flow characteristics that cause local startling parameters on the vessel surface, like elevated pressure values, an interactive analysis tool is missing. The explorative visualization of flow data is challenging due to the complexity of the underlying data. In order to find meaningful structures in the entirety of the flow, the data has to be filtered based on the respective explorative aim. In this paper, we present a combination of visualization, filtering and interaction techniques for explorative analysis of blood flow with a focus on the relation of local surface parameters and underlying flow structures. Coherent bundles of pathlines can be interactively selected based on their relation to features of the vessel wall and further refined based on their own hemodynamic features. This allows the user to interactively select and explore flow structures locally affecting a certain region on the vessel wall and therefore to understand the cause and effect relationship between these entities. Additionally, multiple selected flow structures can be compared with respect to their quantitative parameters, such as flow speed. We confirmed the usefulness of our approach by conducting an informal interview with two expert neuroradiologists and an expert in flow simulation. In addition, we recorded several insights the neuroradiologists were able to gain with the help of our tool.  相似文献

Fused silica glass is one of the most important high‐performance materials for scientific research, industry, and society. However due to its high chemical and thermal resistance as well as high hardness, fused silica glass is notoriously difficult to structure. This work introduces Glassomer, a solid nanocomposite, which can be structured using polymer molding and subtractive technologies at submicrometer resolution. After polymer processing Glassomer is turned into optical grade fused silica glass during a final heat treatment. The resulting glass has the same optical transparency as commercial fused silica and a smooth surface with a roughness of a few nanometers. This work makes high‐performance fused silica glass components accessible to high‐throughput fabrication technologies and will enable numerous optical, photonic and medical applications in science and industry.  相似文献
