Biodegradation kinetics of two phenoxy acid herbicides, MCPP [(+/-)-2-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)propanoic acid; mecoprop] and 2,4-D [2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid] were studied in laboratory batch microcosms at low concentrations (0.025-100 microg/L) using 14C technique with sediments and groundwater from a shallow aerobic sandy aquifer. Below a certain threshold concentration of approximately 1 microg/L for 2,4-D and 10 microg/L for MCPP, the biodegradation followed first-order nongrowth kinetics, and no adaptation was observed within the experimental period of 341 d. Half-lifes for ultimate degradation were 500 d for 2,4-D and 1100 d for MCPP at 10 degrees C in unpolluted aquifer sediment in this environmentally relevant concentration regime. Above the threshold concentrations, the biodegradation rate accelerated gradually due to selective growth of specific biomass, which was ascertained from 14C most probable number enumerations of specific phenoxy acid degraders. Atthe highest concentration tested (100 microg/ L), specific degraders increased from 10(-1) to 10(5) cells/g during the experiment, and half-lifes after adaptation decreased to approximately 5 d. The enhanced rate of degradation by adapted systems was maintained during degradation of the last residuals measured to less than 0.1 microg/L. In situ long-term preexposure of the aquifer sediment also resulted in significant higher degradation rates of the phenoxy acids.  相似文献

Effective screening of large compound libraries in ion channel drug discovery requires the development of new electrophysiological techniques with substantially increased throughputs compared to the conventional patch clamp technique. Sophion Bioscience is aiming to meet this challenge by developing two lines of automated patch clamp products, a traditional pipette-based system called Apatchi-1, and a silicon chip-based system QPatch. The degree of automation spans from semi-automation (Apatchi-1) where a trained technician interacts with the system in a limited way, to a complete automation (QPatch 96) where the system works continuously and unattended until screening of a full compound library is completed. In this article we describe production compilation, a mechanism for modeling skill acquisition. Production compilation has been developed within the ACT-Rational (ACT-R; J. R. Anderson, D. Bothell, M. D. Byrne, & C. Lebiere, 2002) cognitive architecture and consists of combining and specializing task-independent procedures into task-specific procedures. The benefit of production compilation for researchers in human factors is that it enables them to test the strengths and weaknesses of their task analyses and user models by allowing them to model the learning trajectory from the main task level and the unit task level down to the key-stroke level. We provide an example of this process by developing and describing a model learning a simulated air traffic controller task. Actual or potential applications of this research include the evaluation of user interfaces, the design of systems that support learning, and the building of user models.  相似文献

A piezoelectric sprayer was recently developed for precision release of odor stimuli in olfactory research. The device replaces conventional dispensers used to release semiochemicals in studies of moth flight toward odor sources. However, the device generates high-frequency sounds in the range that some moths can hear. Ultrasound from the standard set-up sprayer had a considerable impact on flight behavior of the silver Y moth, Autographa gamma, tested in a flight tunnel. It was affected at all behavioral stages when the dispenser was driven at 120 kHz. Only 5% of the moths reached the source when exposed to 120-kHz sound from the dispenser compared to 65% in the control group without sound. The proportion taking flight was also reduced. Hearing threshold curves obtained electrophysiologically revealed that moths were sensitive to the frequency range at which the sprayer was operated and that sound intensity from the sprayer was up to 40 dB above the moths' electrophysiological hearing threshold. The audiogram for A. gamma was similar to audiograms obtained for other noctuids. Hearing sensitivity was highest at around 15 kHz, where the threshold was 35 dB SPL (sound pressure level). The threshold increased with frequency up to 94 dB SPL at 160 kHz. We improved the sprayer to operate at 300 kHz, which is beyond the hearing ability of most insects with ears. At this high frequency, the moths' sensitivity to ultrasound is reduced considerably, and we did not observe any effect on flight behavior compared to a control group without sound. Accordingly, this new piezoelectric sprayer can be used with ultrasound-sensitive insects and insensitive insects alike.  相似文献

A frequent goal of the design of vibrating structures is to avoid resonance of the structure in a given interval for external excitation frequencies. This can be achieved by, e.g., maximizing the fundamental eigenfrequency, an eigenfrequency of higher order, or the gap between two consecutive eigenfrequencies of given order. This problem is often complicated by the fact that the eigenfrequencies in question may be multiple, and this is particularly the case in topology optimization. In the present paper, different approaches are considered and discussed for topology optimization involving simple and multiple eigenfrequencies of linearly elastic structures without damping. The growing interest in modular and distributed approaches for the design and control of intelligent manufacturing systems gives rise to new challenges. One of the major challenges that have not yet been well addressed is monitoring and diagnosis in distributed manufacturing systems. In this paper we propose the use of a multi-agent Bayesian framework known as Multiply Sectioned Bayesian Networks (MSBNs) as the basis for multi-agent distributed diagnosis in modular assembly systems. We use a close-to-industry case study to demonstrate how MSBNs can be used to build component-based Bayesian sub-models, how to verify the resultant models, and how to compile the multi-agent models into runtime structures to allow consistent multi-agent belief update and inference.  相似文献

This paper presents an interactive topology optimization application designed for hand-held devices running iOS or Android. The TopOpt app solves the 2D minimum compliance problem with interactive control of load and support positions as well as volume fraction. Thus, it is possible to change the problem settings on the fly and watch the design evolve to a new optimum in real time. The use of an interactive app makes it extremely simple to learn and understand the influence of load-directions, support conditions and volume fraction. The topology optimization kernel is written in C# and the graphical user interface is developed using the game engine Unity3D. The underlying code is inspired by the publicly available 88 and 99 line Matlab codes for topology optimization but does not utilize any low-level linear algebra routines such as BLAS or LAPACK. The TopOpt App can be downloaded on iOS devices from the Apple App Store, at Google Play for the Android platform, and a web-version can be run from www.topopt.dtu.dk.  相似文献

In-mold assembly can be used to create plastic products with articulated joints. This process eliminates the need for post-molding assembly and reduces the number of parts being used in the product, hence improving the product quality. However, designing both products and molds is significantly more challenging in case of in-mold assembly. Currently, a systematic methodology does not exist for developing product and processes to exploit potential benefits of in-mold assembly for creating articulated joints. This paper is a step towards creating such a methodology and reports the following three results. First, it presents a model for designing assemblies and molding process so that the joint clearances and variation in the joint clearances can meet the performance goals. Second, it describes proven mold design templates for realizing revolute, prismatic, and spherical joints. Third, it describes a mold design methodology for designing molds for products that contain articulated joints and will be produced using in-mold assembly process. Three case studies are also presented to illustrate how in-mold assembly process can be used to create articulated devices.  相似文献
