The spin wave theory shows that the tetrahedral ground state, which was shown to be favoured by the four-spin exchange interaction in our previous paper, is stable against quantum fluctuations in some parameter region. Since this state has a scalar chiral long-range order, a phase transition occurs at a finite temperature even though the Hamiltonian has a full rotational symmetry in the spin space. Critical behavior of this phase transition was examined by classical Monte Carlo simulations. The specific heat diverges much more strongly than that of the 2D Ising model. 相似文献

Background: Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder affecting millions of people worldwide that is characterized by fluid-filled cysts and leads to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The hallmarks of PKD are proliferation and dedifferentiation of tubular epithelial cells, cellular processes known to be regulated by Notch signaling. Methods: We found increased Notch3 expression in human PKD and renal cell carcinoma biopsies. To obtain insight into the underlying mechanisms and the functional consequences of this abnormal expression, we developed a transgenic mouse model with conditional overexpression of the intracellular Notch3 (ICN3) domain specifically in renal tubules. We evaluated the alterations in renal function (creatininemia, BUN) and structure (cysts, fibrosis, inflammation) and measured the expression of several genes involved in Notch signaling and the mechanisms of inflammation, proliferation, dedifferentiation, fibrosis, injury, apoptosis and regeneration. Results: After one month of ICN3 overexpression, kidneys were larger with tubules grossly enlarged in diameter, with cell hypertrophy and hyperplasia, exclusively in the outer stripe of the outer medulla. After three months, mice developed numerous cysts in proximal and distal tubules. The cysts had variable sizes and were lined with a single- or multilayered, flattened, cuboid or columnar epithelium. This resulted in epithelial hyperplasia, which was observed as protrusions into the cystic lumen in some of the renal cysts. The pre-cystic and cystic epithelium showed increased expression of cytoskeletal filaments and markers of epithelial injury and dedifferentiation. Additionally, the epithelium showed increased proliferation with an aberrant orientation of the mitotic spindle. These phenotypic tubular alterations led to progressive interstitial inflammation and fibrosis. Conclusions: In summary, Notch3 signaling promoted tubular cell proliferation, the alignment of cell division, dedifferentiation and hyperplasia, leading to cystic kidney diseases and pre-neoplastic lesions. 相似文献

As is the case with most eucaryotic cells, cancer cells are able to secrete extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a communication means towards their environment and surrounding cells. EVs are represented by microvesicles and smaller vesicles called exosomes, which are known for their involvement in cancer aggressiveness. The release of such EVs requires the intervention of trafficking-associated proteins, mostly represented by the RAB-GTPases family. In particular, RAB27A is known for its role in addressing EVs-to-be secreted towards the the plasma membrane. In this study, shRNAs targeting RAB27A were used in colorectal (CRC) and glioblastoma (GB) cell lines in order to alter EVs secretion. To study and monitor EVs secretion in cell lines’ supernatants, nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) was used through the NanoSight NS300 device. Since it appeared that NanoSight failed to detect the decrease in the EVs secretion, we performed another approach to drop EVs secretion (RAB27A-siRNA, indomethacin, Nexihnib20). Similar results were obtained i.e., no variation in EVs concentration. Conversely, NTA allowed us to monitor EVs up-secretion following rotenone treatment or hypoxia conditions. The objectives of this study were to assess the differences in fermentative behaviour of two different strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (EC1118 and RC212) and to determine the differences in composition and sensory properties of raspberry wines fermented with immobilized and suspended yeast cells of both strains at 15 °C. Analyses of aroma compounds, glycerol, acetic acid and ethanol, as well as the kinetics of fermentation and a sensory evaluation of the wines, were performed. All fermentations with immobilized yeast cells had a shorter lag phase and faster utilization of sugars and ethanol production than those fermented with suspended cells. Slower fermentation kinetics were observed in all the samples that were fermented with strain RC212 (suspended and immobilized) than in samples fermented with strain EC1118. Significantly higher amounts of acetic acid were detected in all samples fermented with strain RC212 than in those fermented with strain EC1118 (0.282 and 0.602 g/l, respectively). ABSTRACT: Adductor muscles dissected from live scallops ( Patinopecten yessoensis ) were preserved in artificial seawater containing various concentrations of dissolved oxygen at 5°C. The period over that the initial ATP level was maintained decreased with a decrease in oxygen concentration. The K-value, an index of freshness, rose markedly after ATP levels and energy charge decreased. Muscle contraction occurred after 4 to 5 d in 1.0 m M oxygen or after 3 d in 0.07 m M oxygen. Sodium azide and 2,4-dinitrophenol accelerated the decrease in ATP, even in oxygenated seawater. These results suggest that enough oxygen to support aerobic respiration is required to preserve adductor muscles in a vital state for a relatively long period. 相似文献

CuInSe2 (CIS) thin films, the thickness of about 1.0 μm and composition of Cu/In ratio (γ = 1.79), were grown on (0 0 1)-oriented GaAs substrate by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) at substrate temperature of Ts, = 450°C. The samples have been characterized by means of piezoelectric photoacoustic (PPA) measurements between liquid helium (4.2 K) and room temperature (300 K). Two distinct PPA signals due to band gap of CIS and GaAs are observed in the whole temperature range from 4.2 to 300 K and the PPA signals of CIS decrease curvilinearly at the temperature range. Since the PPA signals of CIS thin films can be obtained up to room temperature, the PPA measurements are quite effective to obtain the optical characterizations, especially for the nonradiative recombination processes. 相似文献

We analyzed in‐game content from titles released between 1983 and 2014 (n = 571) featuring playable female characters. Results indicate that sexualization has diminished since an observed height in the 1990s. Traditionally male‐oriented genres (e.g. fighting) have more sexualized characters than role‐playing games. Games rated Teen or Mature did not differ in sexualization and featured more sexualization than Everyone games. Despite an increase in games featuring playable female characters, games still depict female characters more often in secondary roles and sexualized them more than primary characters. A positive relationship emerged between the sexualization of female characters and their physical capability. Critical success of games was unrelated to sexualization. We discuss these findings in light of social identity and objectification theories. 相似文献

Migration of the potential endocrine disrupter, bisphenol A (BPA), from 31 polycarbonate (PC) baby bottles into aqueous food simulants was studied under real repetitive use, using a sensitive and fully validated liquid chromatographic method with fluorescence detection. Confirmation of the presence of BPA was performed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The effects of cleaning in a dishwasher or with a brush, sterilization with boiling water and the temperature of migration were examined. It was shown that temperature was the crucial factor for the migration of BPA from the plastic bottles to water. All samples released BPA in the concentration range 2.4-14.3 µg kg-1 when filled with boiled water and left at ambient temperature for 45 min. The decrease of BPA release in the sterilization water and in the food simulant over 12 cycles of use indicated that the hypothesis of polymer degradation in water is dubious. Estimated infantile dietary exposure, regarding the use of PC baby bottles, ranged between 0.2 and 2.2 µg kg-1 bw day-1, which is below the Tolerable Daily Intake of 50 µg kg-1 bw recently established by EFSA. 相似文献

Existing pervasive applications are based on time series data that possess the form of time‐ordered series of events. Such applications also embody the need to handle large volumes of unexpected events, often modified on‐the‐fly, containing conflicting information, and dealing with rapidly changing contexts while producing results with low latency. Correlating events across contextual dimensions holds the key to expanding the capabilities and improving the performance of these applications. In this paper we analyze complex‐event semantic correlation that examines epistemic uncertainty in computer networks by using Dempster–Shafer theory to support a high‐volume, event‐based, in‐network and non‐deterministic pervasive network management. We consider imprecision and uncertainty when an event is detected and associate a belief parameter with the semantics and the detection of composite events. The approach taps into in‐network processing capabilities of pervasive computer networks and can withstand missing or conflicting information gathered from multiple participating entities. In the end, we establish that a lightweight, distributed, large‐volume, event‐based technique which exploits epistemic uncertainty to correlate events along contextual dimensions provides a successful technique for enabling management of large‐scale and pervasive contemporary and future computer networks.
