One important aethiological factor in the pathogenesis of chronic atrophic candidosis is the presence of Candida albicans on the fitting surface of the dentures. Fibers may come into contact with oral mucosa during the finishing procedures of acrylic resins. The exposed fibers may provide mechanical retention for yeast cells at the interface of the components. The effect of two different glass fibers and two different environments were evaluated in respect of Candida albicans adhesion to the acrylic surface. Half of the acrylic samples reinforced with two different fibers (Sticknet and Eversticknet) were pretreated with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and the rest with unstimulated saliva. The test specimens were placed in yeast suspension. The adhered cells were examined with a scanning electron microscope. The amount of adhered cells in PBS was lower for Eversticknet but the difference was not significant (p > 0.05). The number of yeast cells decreased in saliva for both groups and the difference was statistically significant for the samples reinforced with Eversticknet (p < 0.01). The use of Sticknet or Eversticknet as reinforcing material for poly(methylmethacrylate) had no effect on surface topography due to the same adhesion state of Candida albicans. The presence of a salivary pellicle derived from unstimulated saliva reduced adhesion of Candida albicans.  相似文献

This in vitro study investigates the bonding capacity of resin cements to dowels, using the push-out bonding strength of four different dowel systems, namely, stainless steel dowels (SSD), resin-supported polyethylene fiber dowels (RSPFD), zirconia dowels (ZD), and superpost glass fiber dowels (GFD), luted in root canals, using two different resin cements, namely, Multilink Automix Cement and Clearfil Esthetic Cement. Ninety-six maxillary central incisor teeth were sectioned below the cementoenamel junction, and the roots were treated endodontically. Then the roots were placed into four groups, based on the dowel systems used. The roots were further placed into two subgroups, based on the cement type used as subgroup A and subgroup B. Push-out bonding tests were performed on the bonded specimens, which were cut into 1 mm thick sections. A two-way ANOVA test and Tukey’s HSD tests were performed. The push-out bonding strength values for SSD, ZD, and RSPFD were not significantly different (p > 0.05). The means for GFD were significantly higher than the means for ZD (p < 0.05) when Multilink Automix Cement was used. However, when Clearfil Esthetic Cement was used, the means for RSPFD were significantly higher (p < 0.001) than the means for the other systems. When Clearfil Esthetic Cement was used, the RSPF dowel system provided significantly higher bonding strength values than the other systems.  相似文献

Increased QT dispersion seems to be related to an increased risk of arrhythmia and sudden death, a common cause of mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Increase in sympathetic tone has been documented in HD patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of changes in the autonomic tone on QT dispersion (QTd) in HD patients. Twenty HD patients (M/F 13/7; age, mean ±SD, 28 ± 10 years) and 22 age‐ and sex‐matched healthy controls (M/F 12/10; age, 30 ± 10 years) were included. The patients were dialyzed three‐times weekly; time on dialysis was 17 ± 8 months. The QT durations were measured from 12 lead surface EKGs and were corrected for RR intervals. Corrected maximum (QTc max) and minimum (QTcmin) QT intervals and their difference (QT c d) were recorded. The effect of the Valsalva maneuver in the release phase on QT c intervals and dispersion was assessed. The HD patients had prolonged values compared to controls: QT c d, 59 ± 17 ms versus 35 ± 7 ms, p < 0.001; QT c max, 458 ± 41 ms versus 397 ± 21 ms, p < 0.001; and QT c min, 398 ± 36 ms versus 362 ± 25 ms, p < 0.001. After the Valsalva maneuver no changes were observed in controls: QT c max, 397 ± 21 ms versus 396 ± 22 ms, p = 0.9; QT c min, 362 ± 24 ms versus 358 ± 19 ms, p = 0.5; and QT c d, 35 ± 7 ms versus 38 ± 10 ms, p = 0.15. Whereas, in HD patients all values were significantly shortened: QTcmax, 458 ± 41 ms versus 427 ± 35 ms, p = 0.003; QTc min, 398 ± 36 ms versus 379 ± 34 ms, p = 0.04; and QTc d, 59 ± 17 ms versus 48 ± 15 ms, p = 0.01. The decrease in QTmax was more prominent than the decrease in QTmin, hence QT dispersion was significantly decreased after the Valsalva maneuver, but differences from controls were still significant. In conclusion, increased sympathetic activity may have a role in the prolonged QT duration and increased QT dispersion in HD patients.  相似文献

Iron sucrose and low-molecular-weight iron dextran (LMW-ID), two commonly used iron solutions, have been compared in terms of allergic adverse event profiles to date. However, the safety of total dose infusion of LMW-ID has been investigated by only one study in chronic kidney disease (CKD) (not dialysis) patients. Thus, we aimed to compare adverse event profiles of total and high-dose LMW-ID and iron sucrose infusions in a heterogenous renal patient group comprising CKD, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis. In this retrospective chart review study, we included 110 predialysis CKD, 101 peritoneal dialysis, and 118 hemodialysis patients. We included a total of 329 patients who were administered parenteral iron sucrose or LMW-ID between September 2006 and April 2010. Adverse events were determined both by medical and nursing follow-up notes. Laboratory data and clinical characteristics were collected from patient charts. Adverse event rates were compared between iron sucrose and LMW-ID infusions. In a total of 329 patients, 530 infusions (3470 ampules) were administered. We detected adverse reaction in only 1 patient. This adverse reaction, which manifested as generalized pruritus, occurred in a patient who received 500 mg of iron sucrose infusion. There were neither anaphylactic reactions nor deaths associated with infusion of either preparation. We did not observe any other adverse event related to administration of 500 and 1000 mg of iron sucrose at single infusion. The results of this study showed comparable safety of total dose LMW-ID and high-dose iron sucrose in a heterogenous group of renal patients.  相似文献

Although acid etching is routinely used to condition tooth surfaces, it increases the caries susceptibility of enamel and enhances enamel demineralization; thus the role of alternative surface treatments such as alumina air abrasion and erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (Er:YAG) laser irradiation for tooth conditioning is controversial. This study was undertaken to compare the effects of different conditioning methods on the shear bond strength (SBS) of resin cement on enamel and dentin. Prepared permanent human dentin and enamel samples (N = 210) embedded in clear acrylic resin were conditioned by 37% phosphoric acid etching, 50-µm alumina air abrasion, Er:YAG laser irradiation (120 mJ, 10 Hz, medium short pulse mode), or their combinations. Porcelain laminates were cemented by using photopolymerizing luting composite. SBS was evaluated after thermal cycling (10,000 cycles, 5–55°C) and fracture types (adhesive, cohesive, or mixed) were observed by stereomicroscopy. Data were analyzed by Kruskal–Wallis analysis of variance and followed by Tamhane's test (p < 0.05). Enamel and dentin specimens showed significant differences in SBS (p < 0.000). Er:YAG laser etching presents successful alternatives to acid etching on dentin surfaces; it does not enhance adhesion of the resin cement on enamel surfaces.  相似文献
