Operationalizing Gestalt therapy's processes of experiential organization.

Developed a coding system to operationalize the Gestalt therapy formulation of experiential organization and used the scale to test the assumption that each member of an interacting couple is influenced by concurrent organization of experience processes of the other. 20 couples (at least 1 member was an undergraduate student) who had lived together for at least 6 mo were rated. Findings support the reliability of the procedure, but data do not reflect adequate levels of usage along the full range of the scale. Utilizing Instructional Consultations to Enhance the Teaching Performance of Engineering Faculty

Although many kinds of data can be used to guide instructional consultations, research comparing the efficacy of such data is scant, especially in engineering. In this study, multiple modes of assessment were used to evaluate the impact of consultations informed by different kinds of data. This study illuminates two key aspects of instructional consultations: (1) their efficacy varies depending on the kind of data used to guide them, with student feedback from a Small Group Instructional Diagnosis (SGID) having the largest positive impact, and (2) the instructional consultant plays a key role in helping both interpret the available data and identify strategies for improvement. These findings suggest three implications for practice: (1) whenever possible, SGID‐based consultations should be offered systematically and proactively for engineering faculty, (2) data for other kinds of consultations should be tailored to the needs of the individual instructor, and (3) instructional consultants should be available to collaborate with faculty to enhance their teaching, thereby building an engineering culture that actively supports teaching and learning.     

Solubility Limits of La and Y in Aluminum Oxynitride at 1870°C

The solubility limits of important dopants (La and Y) in aluminum oxynitride (AlON) were measured using wavelength-dispersive spectroscopy (WDS) mounted on a scanning electron microscope, from samples quickly cooled from 1870°C. To provide saturated AlON, samples were prepared with dopant concentrations well above the solubility limit, which was confirmed by the appearance of secondary phases using X-ray diffraction, backscattered electron micrographs, and WDS. Measurements were conducted on polished samples without thermal or chemical etching. The results indicate solubility limits of 498±82 and 1775±128 ppm for La and Y in AlON at 1870°C, respectively. The solubility limit of Mg in AlON at 1870°C was found to be >4000 ppm. The relation between solubility limit and cation size is briefly discussed.     

Factor structure of the Basic Interest Scales by gender across time.

Studied gender differences in the factor structure of the Basic Interest Scales (BISs) across time. Nine correlation matrices, previously published in support of the BISs on the Strong Vocational Interest Blank–Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory, were factor analyzed. Results describe a clear factor structure for the Basic Interest Scales. However, scale loadings did not support General Occupational Theme classifications of BISs. Similarities between men and women were observed in extracted factors and BISs with low communality estimates. Gender differences were found for between-factor correlations. A relatively stable factor structure was traced over time and was found to exist prior to the employment of women in traditionally restricted male occupations. Agoraphobia in a rehabilitation medicine setting: A case report.

Agoraphobia is a pervasive constellation of fears and avoidance behaviors that is severely debilitating. People with agoraphobia are often afraid of open spaces, crowds, being alone, or other everyday situations. In this article, I present the case of a client with agoraphobia who was on a medical rehabilitation unit. Psychological interventions with this person are outlined; discharge and follow-up status are given. In a literature review, I focus on possible origins of agoraphobia and outline some current treatment modalities. Although the treatment interventions were geared for a rehabilitation hospital milieu, the theory and techniques presented can effectively be generalized to other treatment environments.
