Women might experience modulation in their perception and cognition of colours and odours during the menstrual cycle, but how women's impressions of and correspondence between colours and odours differ according to the cycle changes remains unknown. Here, we experimentally examined women's performance of several tasks, including evaluation of impressions of colours and odours, matching/nonmatching of colours with odours, and identification of odours, comparing two phases: the beginning of menstruation and ovulation. The results showed that participants had similar impressions of colours and odours and made similar colour choices for odours in both the menstrual and ovulation phases, while “pleasant-unpleasant” impressions of colour and odour might vary according to the menstrual cycle. We found no significant differences in odour identification between the phases. The findings imply that hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle might affect “pleasant-unpleasant” impressions of colour and odour but not other features regarding impressions or crossmodal correspondence. In future studies, examination with a large number of participants is necessary.  相似文献

Summary The process of mesophase formation of rodlike molecule, imogolite, was simulated by comparing the distance distribution function computed from models with that obtained by the Fourier-transformation of small angle X-ray scattering data. In the initial state below A-point (defined as a starting point of mesophase formation), imogolite molecules assemble into loosely packed hexagonal shape with their ends aligned in a line. The columns composed of hexagonal packing are arrnaged side by side to form raft-like sheets near the A-point and finally form mesophase above A-point.  相似文献

This paper introduces the new synthetic methodology of polyolefin-based block and graft copolymers with polar segments [e.g., polystyrene and poly(meth)acrylates]. Various brominated polyolefins were prepared by bromination of polyolefins with N-bromosuccinimide. The resulting brominated polyolefins were able to initiate the controlled radical polymerization of polar monomers, such as methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, t-butyl acrylate, styrene and 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate, using a CuBr/N,N,N′,N″,N″-pentamethyldiethylenetriamine catalyst system, leading to a variety of polyolefin-based copolymers with a different content of the corresponding polar segment. Because of the accessible synthesis of polyolefin macroinitiators, this synthetic methodology is expected to result in the preparation of a wide range of polyolefin-based block and graft copolymers.  相似文献

Poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA: Mw = 19.4 × 104)/poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG: Mw = 400) blend films were formed by use of a solvent‐cast technique. The properties and structures of these blend films were investigated. The Young's modulus of the PLLA decreased from 1220 to 417 MPa with the addition of PEG 5 wt %, but the elongation at break increased from 19 to 126%. The melting point of PLLA linearly decreased with increases in the PEG content (i.e., pure PLLA: 172.5°C, PLLA/PEG = 60/40 wt %: 159.6°C). The PEG 20 wt % blend film had a porous structure. The possibility of thermal proof testing with thermal stress induced by quenching was examined. For this purpose, the bending strength and the critical temperature difference for quenching into water and quench oil for soda-lime-silica glass were measured before and after proof testing by quenching the specimens into water, ethyl alcohol, silicon oil and quench oil. Proof testing by water, ethyl alcohol and silicon oil quenching modified the distribution of the critical temperature difference as expected, but not that of the bending strength at all. It is suggested that proof testing by rapid quenching is a useful method for truncating the critical temperature difference distribution of ceramic components of heat engines and so on.  相似文献

Similarity search is important in information retrieval applications where objects are usually represented as vectors of high dimensionality. This leads to the increasing need for supporting the indexing of high-dimensional data. On the other hand, indexing structures based on space partitioning are powerless because of the well-known “curse of dimensionality”. Linear scan of the data with approximation is more efficient in the high-dimensional similarity search. However, approaches so far have concentrated on reducing I/O, and ignored the computation cost. For an expensive distance function such as L p norm with fractional p, the computation cost becomes the bottleneck. We propose a new technique to address expensive distance functions by “indexing the function” by pre-computing some key values of the function once. Then, the values are used to develop the upper/lower bounds of the distance between a data vector and the query vector. The technique is extremely efficient since it avoids most of the distance function computations; moreover, it does not involve any extra secondary storage because no index is constructed and stored. The efficiency is confirmed by cost analysis, as well as experiments on synthetic and real data.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity and Seebeck coefficient was measured on single crystals of La1–x Ca x MnO3(0 <x 0.3) and La1–x Sr x MnO 3 (0 <x 0.4) grown by the arc-image floating zone method. The electrical conduction for La1–x crystals withx 0.2 was of the activation type aboveT c and of the degenerate type belowT c, while that for the crystal withx = 0.1 was of the activation type over the whole measured temperature range between –170 and 400°C. The conduction behaviour of La1– x Sr x MnO3 was essentially the same as that of La1–x Ca x MnO3 except that the conduction of the crystals withx = 0.3 and 0.4 was of the degenerate type aboveT c. A distinct difference in Seebeck data was observed between the calcium and the strontium compounds.  相似文献

Diamond crystals of about 2 mm in size were grown by the temperature gradient method using Ni, Ni-Fe alloy and Fe as solvent metals. Several characteristic patterns were seen on the surfaces of the grown diamonds and were found to correspond to the texture of the quenched solvent metals. A vague vein-like pattern appeared when Ni was used. The surface patterns became finer with the increase of the content of Fe in Ni-Fe alloy, and when 70 wt% Fe-30 wt% Ni alloy was used, very fine dendritic patterns were seen on all of the faces of diamond in accordance with the symmetries of the lattice. The patterns are formed by the precipitation of carbon atoms in the space of the dendrites of the solvent metals during the quenching process. Lamellar patterns and etch pits were seen when Fe was used. The patterns are formed when Fe dissolves the diamond surfaces to produce Fe3C during the quenching process.  相似文献

Transmitted light could detect matrix cracks that occurred in the early stages of fracture of alumina-fiber-reinforced plastics (alumina-FRPs); these cracks could not be detected by acoustic emission (AE). An optical-fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor could detect the matrix cracks but it must be embedded in the FRPs. To determine which wavelength is sensitive to the defects in the FRP, the spectra of the transmitted and reflected light were measured. The intensity of the transmitted light, especially in the visible region (wavelength: 400–800 nm), decreased as the bending stiffness of the test piece decreased. It is thus concluded that to monitor the decrease in bending stiffness of FRPs, a simple sensor using a visible ray is good enough. And this transmitted-light NDE technique can work in the strong electromagentic field associated with a superconductor. It will therefore be useful for detecting defects in the FRP of the load-support system in service.  相似文献
