This paper is concerned with the evaluation of different fatigue strength theories to predict the fatigue life of high-strength
nodular cast iron. There have been some studies on the effects of the shape and size of graphite nodules, and of microstructure,
on the fatigue strength of nodular cast iron. However, there is not a consensus on how to correlate the fatigue limit with
material intrinsic properties or with external features such as considering graphite nodules as defects. Some researchers
found good correlations between fatigue strength, σw0, and the geometrical aspects of the graphite nodules, considering it as internal material defects. It will be shown in this
study that geometrical features such as shape, size, and relative position seem to be adequate to be included in those predictions.
In this article, a high-strength cast iron, with rupture strength of about 1300 MPa and Young’s modulus of about 160 GPa,
has been used. Correlations both with intrinsic properties as well as with other geometrical effects have been made. A comparison
of different theories has also been carried out.

Changes in adult hippocampal cell proliferation and genesis have been largely implicated in depression and antidepressant action, though surprisingly, the underlying cell cycle mechanisms are largely undisclosed. Using both an in vivo unpredictable chronic mild stress (uCMS) rat model of depression and in vitro rat hippocampal-derived neurosphere culture approaches, we aimed to unravel the cell cycle mechanisms regulating hippocampal cell proliferation and genesis in depression and after antidepressant treatment. We show that the hippocampal dentate gyrus (hDG) of uCMS animals have less proliferating cells and a decreased proportion of cells in the G2/M phase, suggesting a G1 phase arrest; this is accompanied by decreased levels of cyclin D1, E, and A expression. Chronic fluoxetine treatment reversed the G1 phase arrest and promoted an up-regulation of cyclin E. In vitro, dexamethasone (DEX) decreased cell proliferation, whereas the administration of serotonin (5-HT) reversed it. DEX also induced a G1-phase arrest and decreased cyclin D1 and D2 expression levels while increasing p27. Additionally, 5-HT treatment could partly reverse the G1-phase arrest and restored cyclin D1 expression. We suggest that the anti-proliferative actions of chronic stress in the hDG result from a glucocorticoid-mediated G1-phase arrest in the progenitor cells that is partly mediated by decreased cyclin D1 expression which may be overcome by antidepressant treatment. 相似文献

Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2) is an essential plasma membrane component involved in several cellular functions, including membrane trafficking and cytoskeleton organization. This function multiplicity is partially achieved through a dynamic spatiotemporal organization of PI(4,5)P2 within the membrane. Here, we use a Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) approach to quantitatively assess the extent of PI(4,5)P2 confinement within the plasma membrane. This methodology relies on the rigorous evaluation of the dependence of absolute FRET efficiencies between pleckstrin homology domains (PHPLCδ) fused with fluorescent proteins and their average fluorescence intensity at the membrane. PI(4,5)P2 is found to be significantly compartmentalized at the plasma membrane of HeLa cells, and these clusters are not cholesterol-dependent, suggesting that membrane rafts are not involved in the formation of these nanodomains. On the other hand, upon inhibition of actin polymerization, compartmentalization of PI(4,5)P2 is almost entirely eliminated, showing that the cytoskeleton network is the critical component responsible for the formation of nanoscale PI(4,5)P2 domains in HeLa cells. 相似文献

Congenital hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CHH) is a rare reproductive endocrine disorder characterized by complete or partial failure of pubertal development and infertility due to deficiency of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). CHH has a significant clinical heterogeneity and can be caused by mutations in over 30 genes. The aim of this study was to investigate the genetic defect in two siblings with CHH. A woman with CHH associated with anosmia and her brother with normosmic CHH were investigated by whole exome sequencing. The genetic studies revealed a novel heterozygous missense mutation in the Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 1 (FGFR1) gene (: c.242T>C, p.Ile81Thr) in the affected siblings and in their unaffected father. The mutation affected a conserved amino acid within the first Ig-like domain (D1) of the protein, was predicted to be pathogenic by structure and sequence-based prediction methods, and was absent in ethnically matched controls. These were consistent with a critical role for the identified missense mutation in the activity of the FGFR1 protein. In conclusion, our identification of a novel missense mutation of the FGFR1 gene associated with a variable expression and incomplete penetrance of CHH extends the known mutational spectrum of this gene and may contribute to the understanding of the pathogenesis of CHH. Carbonaceous materials derived from biomass have been used as sustainable platforms for the growth of ZnO particles aiming the production of functional composite fillers. Kidney-bean pods were pyrolyzed by applying an experimental design that demonstrates that the specific surface area (SBET) of biochar is improved with increasing pyrolysis temperature combined with a short air-oxidation time. Meanwhile, the graphitization degree and the electrical conductivity (EC) of biochars were negatively affected by increasing the air-oxidation time. The biochar sample with the higher EC and the one with the higher SBET were selected to be functionalized with ZnO particles by a solvothermal methodology, obtaining composites with an EC and SBET properties superior to the ZnO-rGO composite, in addition to a similar antibacterial activity. The developed ZnO-biochar composite structures, which are more ecological and biocompatible than the ZnO composites derived from graphene sheets, can be applied as electrically conductive and active fillers. 相似文献

Bloom filters provide space-efficient storage of sets at the cost of a probability of false positives on membership queries. The size of the filter must be defined a priori based on the number of elements to store and the desired false positive probability, being impossible to store extra elements without increasing the false positive probability. This leads typically to a conservative assumption regarding maximum set size, possibly by orders of magnitude, and a consequent space waste. This paper proposes Scalable Bloom Filters, a variant of Bloom filters that can adapt dynamically to the number of elements stored, while assuring a maximum false positive probability. 相似文献

This paper presents a micro power light energy harvesting system for indoor environments. Light energy is collected by amorphous silicon photovoltaic (a-Si:H PV) cells, processed by a switched capacitor (SC) voltage doubler circuit with maximum power point tracking (MPPT), and finally stored in a large capacitor. The MPPT fractional open circuit voltage (VOC) technique is implemented by an asynchronous state machine (ASM) that creates and dynamically adjusts the clock frequency of the step-up SC circuit, matching the input impedance of the SC circuit to the maximum power point condition of the PV cells. The ASM has a separate local power supply to make it robust against load variations. In order to reduce the area occupied by the SC circuit, while maintaining an acceptable efficiency value, the SC circuit uses MOSFET capacitors with a charge sharing scheme for the bottom plate parasitic capacitors. The circuit occupies an area of 0.31 mm2 in a 130 nm CMOS technology. The system was designed in order to work under realistic indoor light intensities. Experimental results show that the proposed system, using PV cells with an area of 14 cm2, is capable of starting-up from a 0 V condition, with an irradiance of only 0.32 W/m2. After starting-up, the system requires an irradiance of only 0.18 W/m2 (18 μW/cm2) to remain operating. The ASM circuit can operate correctly using a local power supply voltage of 453 mV, dissipating only 0.085 μW. These values are, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, the lowest reported in the literature. The maximum efficiency of the SC converter is 70.3 % for an input power of 48 μW, which is comparable with reported values from circuits operating at similar power levels. 相似文献

An efficient synthetic access to new cationic porphyrin-bipyridine iridium(III) bis-cyclometalated complexes was developed. These porphyrins bearing arylbipyridine moieties at β-pyrrolic positions coordinated with iridium(III), and the corresponding Zn(II) porphyrin complexes were spectroscopically, electrochemically, and electronically characterized. The features displayed by the new cyclometalated porphyrin-bipyridine iridium(III) complexes, namely photoinduced electron transfer process (PET), and a remarkable efficiency to generate 1O2, allowing us to envisage new challenges and opportunities for their applications in several fields, such as photo(catalysis) and photodynamic therapies. 相似文献

This paper addresses the identification of all contributors of an intellectual work, when they are recorded in bibliographic data but in unstructured form. National bibliographies are very reliable on representing the first author of a work; however, secondary contributors are frequently represented only in the statements of responsibility that are transcribed by the cataloguer from the book into the bibliographic records. The identification of work contributors mentioned in statements of responsibility is a typical motivation for the application of information extraction techniques. This paper presents an approach developed for the specific application scenario of the ARROW rights infrastructure being deployed in several European countries to assist in the determination of the copyright status of works that may not be under public domain. An evaluation of our approach was performed in catalogues of nine European national libraries of countries that are available in the ARROW rights infrastructure, which cover eight different languages. The evaluation has shown that it performs reliably across languages and bibliographic datasets. It achieved an overall precision of 98.7 % and recall of 96.7 %. 相似文献
