In this work, ellagic acid (EA), a naturally occurring plant polyphenol, was utilized for the biomimetic synthesis of silver (Ag) nanoparticles, which over a period of time formed extended branched nanochains of hexagonal-shaped silver nanoparticles. It was found that EA not only has the capability of reducing silver ions, resulting in the formation of Ag nanoparticles, due to its extended polyphenolic system, but also appears to recognize and affect the Ag nanocrystal growth on the (111) face, leading to the formation of hexagon-shaped Ag nanocrystals. Initially, various Ag nanocrystal shapes were observed; however, over a longer period of time, a majority of hexagonal-shaped nanocrystals were formed. Although the exact mechanism of formation of the nanocrystals is not known, it appears that EA attaches to the silver nuclei, leading to lower surface energy of the (111) face. Further, the nanocrystals fuse together, forming interfaces among the aggregates, and, with time, those interfaces become lesser, and the nanoparticles merge together and share the same single crystallographic orientation, which leads to the formation of long elongated chains of hexagonal nanoparticles. This biomimetic approach may be developed as a green synthetic method to prepare building blocks with tunable properties for the development of nanodevices. Further, we explored the antibacterial properties and found that the tandem of EA-Ag nanochains substantially enhanced the antibacterial properties of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria compared to silver nanoparticles or EA alone. River water management is challenging not only since they are open systems with changing physical structures, but also because the water values are mostly unknown over varied sectors. If policymakers grasp water values, water management will be more efficient. This research intends to examine the values of water in agriculture, which receives the most substantial portion of water resources, with the values of water in the environment in Isfahan located in the Zayandehrood River basin of Iran. The consequences of contingent valuation and production function methods revealed that per cubic metre value of water is 13 times higher in the environment than agriculture. The government should reconsider the higher value of the environment despite it is a non‐market value. The contingent valuation model additionally proved that women exhibited 21% more willingness to pay than men in order to protect the environment; however, they are paid less by 36%. 相似文献

To illustrate and test the applicability and performance of the innovative honey-bee mating optimization (HBMO) algorithm in highly non-convex hydropower system design and operation, two problems are considered: single reservoir and multi-reservoir. Both hydropower problems are formulated to minimize the total present net cost of the system, while achieving the maximum possible ratio for generated power to installed capacity. The single hydropower reservoir problem is approached by the developed algorithm in 10 different runs. The first feasible solution was generated initially and later improved significantly and solutions converged to a near optimal solution very rapidly. In the application of the proposed algorithm to a five-reservoir hydropower system with 48 periods and a total of 230 decision variables, in early mating flights, the first feasible solution was identified and the results converged to a near optimal solution in later mating flights. In the case of the multi-reservoir problem, an efficient gradient-based nonlinear-programming solver (LINGO 8.0) failed to find a feasible solution and for the single hydropower reservoir design problem it performed much worse than the proposed algorithm. 相似文献

Bioleaching of copper from the flue dust of the Sarcheshmeh copper smelter has been investigated. A series of continuous tests were carried out in two-stages of airlift bioreactors inoculated with the acidophilic, iron and sulfur oxidizing bacteria, initially derived from acid mine drainage. The effects of different parameters such as pulp density, retention time and temperature on the mesophile bioleach performance of the copper sulfide rich dust were evaluated after pre-leaching with dilute acid. Pulp densities of 2% and 4% gave the same oxidation–reduction potential in both reactors. However, increasing the average pulp density to 7% generated an unstable oxidation–reduction potential in the first bioreactor at 34 °C. Overall copper extractions calculated for 2%, 4% and 7% pulp densities were 90%, 89% and 86% with mean retention times of 2.7, 4 and 5 days, respectively. The investigation of fluid flow in sharp open-channel bends is key to controlling undesired sedimentation in natural river reaches. The difficulties are associated with controlling the flow separation in meanderings. Flow separation decreases the width of the flow, and consequently, the conveyance capacity while increasing erosion and mixing. This study proposes a novel approach to reduce the flow separation at the inner banks of sharp open-channel bends. Three-dimensional numerical experiments were conducted. To find the most reliable procedure, five turbulence models were examined. The employed numerical approach is formulated within the framework of the finite volume method and the volume of fluid (VOF) technique to solve the Navier–Stokes equations. Water levels and velocity profiles are obtained in different sections of the channel and are compared to experimental studies of a 90° sharp open-channel bend. A close agreement is observed using the RSM (Reynolds stress model) turbulence model. Moreover, the evaluation of acquired velocity profiles demonstrates that in a regular bend, the lowest velocity occurs near the inner bank, where it has a flow separation tendency. The same numerical procedure is employed to simulate water flow through a sharp converging open-channel bend. The measurements of velocity profiles and velocity vectors in the curved sections support the idea that decreasing the channel width considerably reduces the overall velocity variations in cross-sectional areas of the test case and is effective to control flow separation. 相似文献

The goal of this research is to determine the effect of N2 pressure to argon pressure on the microstructural analysis and corrosion behavior of nanostructured TaN deposited coatings using a reactive DC-magnetron sputtering (RDCMS) technique. The samples coated microstructure was studied by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), and elemental distribution was studied using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). To investigate the corrosion behavior of nanostructured TaN coatings, the potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests were performed in Hank's physiological solution. The results of different tests revealed that the coating with a content of 17.6% PN2/PAr consisted of hexagonal and orthorhombic TaN phases and had denser microstructure and free pores. This coating showed superior corrosion behavior in comparison to the other ones. Also, the corrosion resistance of this coating raised by increasing the time of immersion from 48 to 168 h. 相似文献
