Measurements of the V–I characteristics of a solid polymer electrolytic (SPE) dehumidifier were done using a modified SPE
dehumidifier with four electrodes which included two electrodes to carry the main current and the other two electrodes to
measure the voltages applied to the electrical double layer, which are the boundary voltages between the electrodes and the
SPE membrane. The measured results were analyzed using the Butler-Volmer equation to examine the validity of the measurements.
The current flowing in the dehumidifier is produced by the decomposition of water near the anode. Therefore, under a steady-state
condition, the current should be proportional to the supply rate of water to the anode. On the other hand, a two-layer model
for the SPE dehumidifier presented in our previous article showed that the current flowing in the dehumidifier was roughly
proportional to the water content in the vicinity of the anode. These results were introduced for interpretation of the V–I
measurements of the SPE dehumidifier. It was concluded that the dehumidifier current was expressed in the form of a Butler-Volmer
equation as a function of the electrode boundary voltages which were the voltages across the boundary between the electrodes
and the SPE membrane. An experimental formula for the current under a steady-state condition was developed as a function of

The paper summarises Japanese activities concerning photovoltaic systems including those for residential use, which is one of the major targets for a domestic alternative energy supply. Fiscal year 1999 marked the 25th anniversary of the Sunshine Project that was initiated in July 1974. The Sunshine Project was subsequently reorganised into the New Sunshine Program to include renewable energy, energy conservation and environmental technology. The major target of the Photovoltaic Technology Development Project in the Programme, from an early stage of R&D, has been focused on utility-connected, residential applications mounted on roofs. Recently, it can be considered that technologies for the target have been fundamentally established and a series of new activities have been introduced to promote the commercialisation and diffusion of PV systems. To review those activities, several condensed tables are presented, i.e., R&D history of residential applications, recent trends in regulation and code improvements, and new institutional activities to disseminate PV systems. The authors also present performance results collected from a large number of PV systems by using a very effective evaluation method called the ‘SV method’. The paper finishes by introducing a good example of simple system monitoring with good verification that can establish a knowledge circle from a variety of PV fields, including to factories, engineers, owners and investors, and it seems to be quite cost-effective. 相似文献

Electric power systems in Japan are composed of remote and distributed location of generators and loads mainly concentrated in large‐demand areas. The structures having long‐distance transmission tend to produce heavy power flow with increasing electric power demand. In addition, some independent power producers (IPP) and power producer and suppliers (PPS) are participating in the power generation business, which makes power system dynamics more complex. However, there was little observation as a whole power system. In this paper the authors present a global monitoring system of power system dynamics by using the synchronized phasor measurement of demand‐side outlets. Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) are synchronized based on the global positioning system (GPS). The purpose of this paper is to show oscillation characteristics and methods for processing original data obtained from PMU after certain power system disturbances triggered by accidents. This analysis resulted in the observation of the lowest and the second lowest frequency mode. The derivation of eigenvalue with the two‐degree‐of‐freedom model brings a monitoring of two oscillation modes. Human expert decision makers can be characterized by their ability to perceive a hypothetical conceptual generality or pattern that is underlying a given collection of objects. The conventional cluster analysis is unable to generate such patterns since its clustering process is far from what the human experts actually do. That is, human experts form some concepts inductively from individual observations based on the conceptual “meaning” which the objects have. In this paper, by introducing an idea of prototype theory from a psychological domain with respect to human concept formation, an algorithm for human classification process is proposed. Based on this, the role of human generalization capability in his classification process is discussed with respect to the background semantic knowledge. The algorithm can be roughly divided into two phases; inductive prototype formation from training examples in a bottom-up fashion, and pattern-directed clustering of the instances being affected by the acquired concepts in a top-down fashion. Using a schematically-modelled example, the algorithm is illustrated with its implemented results. Our modelling method for the human classification process can be utilized for conceptual clustering that classifies a number of unknown objects into a distinguished group being affected by pre-acquired concepts. 相似文献

Al2O3-coated TiO2 porous films were used to fabricate solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells using CuI as hole conductor. Investigation with transient photovoltage measurements showed that the Al2O3 interlayer slowed down the interfacial recombination of electrons in TiO2 with holes in CuI by forming a potential barrier at the TiO2/CuI interface. As a consequence, the cell made from Al2O3-coated TiO2 film showed superior cell performance than the cell made from TiO2 film only, especially under relative high intensity of simulated sunlight. 相似文献

The coefficients of performance (COP) φ0 and φ for a single thermoelectric (TE) element welded with two metal plates were calculated as functions of temperature difference (ΔT) and thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) from the conventional thermal rate equations and the new thermal rate ones proposed here, respectively. We made an attempt to take the differences in the Seebeck coefficient , electrical resistivity ρ and thermal conductivity κ of TE materials at the hot and cold sides of a TE element into the thermal rate equations on the assumption that their TE properties change linearly with temperature. However, the difference in κ was neglected even in the new thermal rate equations because its temperature dependence was too small when φ was applied to the high-performance Bi–Te alloys. The normalized temperature dependences at 300 K of and ρ were denoted by A and B, respectively. The term of A in the thermal rate equations was canceled out by the Thomson coefficient, but that of B remained. When B > 0 K−1, φ/φ0 is enhanced more significantly with an increase of B at larger ΔT and lower ZT, and it reached about 1.20 at ΔT = 80 K for Bi–Te alloys with B ≈ 5 × 10−3 K−1. Extensive, large-amplitude vibration tests of a pile-supported structure in a liquefiable sand deposit have been performed at a large-scale mining site. Ground motions from large-scale blasting operations were used as excitation forces for vibration tests. A simple pile-supported structure was constructed in an excavated 3 m-deep pit. The test pit was backfilled with 100% water-saturated clean uniform sand. Accelerations were measured on the pile-supported structure, in the sand in the test pit, and in the adjacent free field. Excess pore water pressures in the test pit and strains of one pile were also measured.Vibration tests were performed with six different levels of input motions. The maximum horizontal acceleration recorded at the adjacent ground surface varied from 20 Gals to 1353 Gals. These alternations of acceleration provided different degrees of liquefaction in the test pit. Sand boiling phenomena were observed in the test pit with larger input motions. A centrifugal force plays an important role on the control of combustion synthesis. In the present work, the data of reaction propagation rates obtained by changing the direction of reaction propagation and centrifugal force are evaluated in order to make clear the effect of centrifugal force on reaction propagations and product formation. As a result, the reaction propagation rate in the case of the direction of centrifugal force inverse to reaction propagation is larger than that in the case of the same direction, and product grains become smaller in size. It is confirmed that the centrifugal effect is much larger for the present combustion synthesis process in the case that the reaction propagates inversely to the direction of centrifugal force. Since molten titanium near combustion front tends to coalesce into larger drops in that case, reactants of boron and carbon would diffuse more sufficiently into titanium. 相似文献

TiB2 and Al base composite powders, which will offer a weight-saving improvement in stiffness, were produced by combustion synthesis of Ti, Al, and B ternary powder mixtures. Finely dispersed TiB2 was synthesized by reacting a mixture of Ti, Al, and B in the molar ratio of 1:1:4. The grain size of the TiB2 formed was <0.5 μm, which was much smaller than that obtained from the reaction of a mixture of Ti, Al, and B in the molar ratio 1:1:2. These results are discussed in light of the reaction propagating velocity and heat removal during the combustion synthesis process. 相似文献
