Most modern chemical plants are complex networks of multiple interconnected nonlinear process units, often with multiple recycle and by‐pass streams and energy integration. Interactions between process units often lead to plant‐wide operability problems (i.e., difficulties in process control). Plant‐wide operability analysis is often difficult due to the complexity and nonlinearity of the processes. This article provides a new framework of dynamic operability analysis for plant‐wide processes, based on the dissipativity of each process unit and the topology of the process network. Based on the concept of dissipative systems, this approach can deal with nonlinear processes directly. Developed from a network perspective, the proposed framework is also inherently scalable and thus can be applied to large process networks. © 2009 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2009  相似文献

Pectin was chemically modified with different amounts of trisodium trimetaphosphate (STMP) in aqueous solution (pH = 12), thereby giving a material with reduced water solubility. The physiochemical characterization of this new material was carried out through Fourier transform infrared and thermogravimetric analyses. Phosphated pectin (Pect‐STMP) together with prebiotic (oligosaccharide) were incorporated into an aqueous dispersion of polymethacrylate (Eudragit® RS 30 D) in order to obtain free films using a casting process (50 °C) on a Teflon plate. The free films were evaluated using water vapour transmission, average swelling index in simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and simulated intestinal fluid, scanning electron microscopy and a diffusion study with theophylline in buffer solution with and without pectinolytic enzyme. The results suggest that the new material can be used in the coating process for oral solid‐reservoir systems, to prevent the premature release of drugs in SGF (pH = 1.2). Furthermore, the presence of both Pect‐STMP and oligosaccharide favours the specific degradation of the pellicle by the action of the enzymes produced by colonic microflora. The material obtained in this work has the potential to be applied in devices for drug delivery in the colon, making possible modified release of drugs. Nevertheless, subsequent colon‐specific experiments in vivo need to be carried out in order to confirm the possible application of this new material. Although color plays a crucial role in the demarcation of surfaces in the visual field, its role in depth perception is not well understood. Certain special effects of color on depth perception that arise from optical factors such as chromatic aberration (chromostereopsis) have been studied, but less is known about the role of perceptual factors of color in determining depth relations. The present study explores the role that the different attributes of color such as hue, chroma, and lightness play in the stratification of surfaces in depth. In two experiments, subjects manipulated specific dimensions of colors (hue, chroma, lightness, and whiteness) while making judgments of coplanarity of either two or more abutting surfaces. The results demonstrate that for surfaces to appear coplanar, their lightness has to be proportional to the natural (intrinsic) lightness of the hues. No meaningful effects of chroma, whiteness, or blackness were found in depth stratification. The results suggest a primary role of the natural lightness of hues in depth perception.  相似文献

Supramolecular structures of polyaniline (PANI) and vanadium oxide (V2O5) have been assembled via the electrostatic layer-by-layer (ELBL) technique. Strong ionic interactions and H-bonding impart unique features to the ELBL films, which are distinct from cast films obtained with the same materials. The interactions were manifested in UV-vis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy data. They are enhanced by the intimate contact between the components, as the films are molecularly thin, with 25 A per PANI/V2O5 bilayer.  相似文献

Oligosaccharides such as inulin (In) and polysaccharides such as galactomannans, combined with polymethacrylates on isolated films for film coatings, were obtained from aqueous-based solvents and investigated as potential vehicles for colonic drug delivery. These compositions, which are susceptible to fermentation by colonic microflora, constitute promising excipients for the development of new colon-specific therapeutic systems. The characteristics of several compositions have been demonstrated in permeability and swelling studies on isolated films composed of a polymethacrylate associated with In or galactomannans of mesquite seed gum (MSG). Results reported prove a dependency of the properties of mixed films on the polymethacrylate-polysaccharide concentration ratio and on the composition of the dissolution media. An increase in permeability through the mixed films was observed in a simulated colonic environment for the following compositions: Eudragit®RS30D-MSG 70 : 30 w/w; Eudragit® RS30D-In 90 : 10 w/w; Eudragit®RS30D-In 76 : 24 w/w.  相似文献

In an experiment exploring the impact of sound on sensations of telepresence, 126 participants watched a video clip using either headphones or speakers. The results illustrate that sound is an important factor in stimulating telepresence responses in audiences. Interactions between soundscape and screen size were also revealed. A traverse interaction between aural/visual congruency and soundscapes was evident. A second data set of 102 participants was collected to illuminate the effect of technological expectation that emerged in the first study. Expectations had been mentioned in other studies, and the data support the notion that people have an expectation of the technological quality of a presentation. The results suggest that examining expectations could assist in future conceptualizations of telepresence.  相似文献

It has long been recognized that reliable, robust, and automated instrumentation for the measurement of soil moisture content can be extremely useful, if not essential, in hydrological, environmental, and agricultural applications. A number of automated techniques for point measurement of soil water content have been developed to operational level over the past few decades. While each of those techniques has been individually calibrated by the gravimetric method, typically under laboratory conditions, there have been few studies that made a direct comparison between the various techniques, particularly under field conditions. This paper compares ECH2O probes, EC-5 (both sensors based on capacitance measurements, developed by Decagon Devices) and time domain reflectometer sensors (CS616 Campbell Scientific Water Content Reflectometer), with gravimetric data and with each other, under field conditions. Data were collected during two field experiments characterized by different soils and a wide range of soil moistures, resulting from irrigation/drying cycle. Results show that all the tested probes give acceptable results after being calibrated in the field. The capacitive sensors can be used in each type of soil with the same calibration equation, independently from depth, with root mean square error (RMSE) ranging between 2.5 and 3.6%. Time Domain Reflectometry probes showed a dependence on depth but a lower RMSE (1.6%).  相似文献

In the present contribution a one-dimensional model (1D model) is employed to account for the effect of pellet shape in the solution of diffusion-catalytic reaction problems. The 1D model free parameter (σ) is fitted so as to match the second term of the series for the effective reaction rate at fast kinetic conditions. The performance of the model was evaluated for a large collection of pellets available commercially, covering almost all the main shapes offered by catalyst manufacturers. For isothermal linear kinetics the effectiveness factors calculated by the 1D model differ at most by 3% from those of the actual 3D pellets.  相似文献
