The authors consider the limits on growing the die area, and argue that they are essentially economic. The discussion is in terms of a simple system-cost model. At a given defect density, the optimum die area is determined by the balance between reducing the assembly cost, achieved by growing the die to bring interconnects on chip, and reducing the scrapping cost, achieved by shrinking the die to reduce the amount of processed Si lost every time defects occur. The author's model accurately reproduces past trends, and predicts the die area which minimizes the cost of a system of given complexity. Extrapolation of present trends indicates that the economic advantage of growing the die may be exhausted at die areas of ~8-20 cm2. Dice with such an area may be encountered by the year 2010, when fundamental limits on miniaturization are also anticipated  相似文献

A novel magnetic-resonance-coupled broadband near-infrared (NIR) tomography system for small animal brain studies is described. Several features of the image formation approach are new in NIR tomography and represent major advances in the path to recovering high-resolution hemoglobin and oxygen saturation images of tissue. The NIR data were broadband and continuous wave and were used along with a second-derivative-based estimation of the path length from water absorption. The path length estimation from water was then used along with the attenuation spectrum to recover absorption and reduced scattering coefficient images at multiple wavelengths and then to recover images of total hemoglobin and oxygen saturation. Going beyond these basics of NIR tomography, software has been developed to allow inclusion of structures derived from MR imaging (MRI) for the external and internal tissue boundaries, thereby improving the accuracy and spatial resolution of the properties in each tissue type. The system has been validated in both tissue-simulating phantoms, with 10% accuracy observed, and in a rat cranium imaging experiment. The latter experiment used variation in inspired oxygen (FiO2) to vary the observed hemoglobin and oxygen saturation images. Quantitative agreement was observed between the changes in deoxyhemoglobin values derived from NIR and the changes predicted with blood-oxygen-level-dependent (BOLD) MRI. This system represents the initial stage in what will likely be a larger role for NIR tomography, coupled to MRI, and illustrates that the technological challenges of using continuous-wave broadband data and inclusion of a priori structural information can be met with careful phantom studies.  相似文献

Near infrared (NIR) optical tomography is an imaging technique in which internal images of optical properties are reconstructed with the boundary measurements of light propagation through the medium. Recent advances in instrumentation and theory have led to the use of this method for the detection and characterization of tumors within the female breast tissue. Most image reconstruction approaches have used the diffusion approximation and have assumed that the refractive index of the breast is constant, with a bulk value of approximately 1.4. We have applied a previously reported modified diffusion approximation, in which the refractive index for different tissues can be modeled. The model was used to generate NIR data from a realistic breast geometry containing a localized anomaly. Using this simulated data, we have reconstructed optical images, both with and without correct knowledge of the refractive-index distribution to show that the modified diffusion approximation can accurately recover the anomaly given a priori knowledge of refractive index. But using a reconstruction algorithm without the use of correct a priori information regarding the refractive-index distribution is shown as recovering the anomaly but with a degraded quality, depending on the degree of refractive index mismatch. The results suggest that provided the refractive index of breast tissue is approximately 1.3-1.4, their exclusion will have minimal effect on the reconstructed images.  相似文献

Nakajima et al. [Trans. Inst. Mining Metall. 87 (1978) C194] developed a method to measure the shape distribution of particles in terms of their size and thickness. This method was later extended to include models for square, rectangular, and circular aperture screens. In this project, the empirical equation for the probability of particles passing through the rectangular aperture screen in the Nakajima et al. model is replaced with a “basic probability” model and the results are compared. Next, regression equations relating the efficiency parameter of the model to selected screening operating variables are developed. Finally a “modified” Hatch and Mular model is introduced in the Nakajima et al. model and the results are compared with the experimental data. It is shown that both the new models fit the experimental results obtained from rectangular-aperture screens better than the original Nakajima et al. model.  相似文献

An infrastructure development in landscape and clearing of more vegetated areas have provided huge changes in Malaysia gradually leading to slope instabilities accompanied by enormous environmental effects such as properties and destructions. Thus, prudent practices through vegetation incorporating to use slope stability is an option to the general stabilized technique. Few researches have investigated the effectiveness of vegetative coverings related to slope and soil parameters. The main goal of this study is to provide an intelligent soft computing model to predict the safety factor (FOS) of a slope using support vector regression (SVR). In the other words, SVR has investigated the surface eco-protection techniques for cohesive soil slopes in Guthrie Corridor Expressway stretch through the probabilistic models analysis to highlight the main parameters. The aforementioned analysis has been performed to predict the FOS of a slope, also the estimator’s function has been confirmed by the simulative outcome compared to artificial neural network and genetic programing resulting in a drastic accurate estimation by SVR. Using new analyzing methods like SVR are more purposeful than achieving a starting point by trial and error embedding multiple factors into one in ordinary low-technique software.

Stabilized nickel nanoparticles (SNNPs) were prepared using \(\hbox {Ni(acac)}_{2}\) (\(\hbox {acac} = \hbox {acetylacetonate}\)) via a simple solvothermal method. The synthesis of the nickel nanoparticles was performed in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) of different concentrations (mole ratios of SDS:\(\hbox {Ni(acac)}_{2} = 1{:}1\), 2:1 and 4:1), as the stabilizer, in order to appraise their influence on the morphology, size, dispersion, magnetic properties and electrochemical activity of the nickel nanoparticles. The synthesized products have been characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectra, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry and electrochemical studies. It is noteworthy that the average particles size of the SNNPs has been reduced by increasing the SDS concentration, while at high concentration (mole ratio of SDS:\(\hbox {Ni(acac)}_{2} = 4{:}1\)), the small particles tend to coalesce and create a big one. The stabilized Ni nanoparticles could be used as electrode materials for hydrogen evolution in alkaline medium. The electrochemical measurements demonstrated that the higher conductivity and lower value of faraday resistance of the as-prepared samples were when the mole ratio of SDS:\(\hbox {Ni(acac)}_{2}\) was 2:1.  相似文献

In the present work, Al-xB4C nanocomposite (x = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in wt%, having the average B4C size of 50 nm) were prepared using a high-energy ball mill. The milling times up to 16 h were applied. Then, the microstructural evolutions, mechanical properties, compressibility and sintering behavior of nanocomposites were investigated. The changes in powders morphology and microstructure during the milling process were characterized by laser diffraction particle size analyzer (LDA), SEM, XRD, EDS and TEM techniques. Compressibility and sintering behavior of milled powders compacted under different pressures (100–900 MPa) and at different sintering temperatures (500, 550 and 600 °C) were also studied. The pressing behavior of the nanocomposites was analyzed using linear compaction equations developed by Heckel, Panelli-Filho and Ge. The results showed the significant effects of B4C amounts and sintering temperatures on the compressibility and sintering behavior of nanocomposites. The increase in the B4C amount led to a decrease in both the compressibility rate and the sinterability of specimens. The maximum compression strength of 265 MPa and Vickers hardness of 165 VHN were obtained for Al-5 wt.% B4C nanocomposite milled for 16 h followed by sintering at 600 °C.  相似文献

The suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) harbors an endogenous oscillator generating circadian rhythms that are synchronized to the external light/dark cycle by photic information transmitted via the retinohypothalamic tract (RHT). The RHT has recently been shown to contain pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) as neurotransmitter/neuromodulator. PACAPergic effects on cAMP-mediated signaling events in the SCN are restricted to distinct time windows and sensitive to melatonin. In neurons isolated from the SCN of neonatal rats we investigated by means of the fura-2 technique whether PACAP and melatonin also influence the intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i). PACAP elicited increases of [Ca2+]i in 27% of the analyzed neurons, many of which were also responsive to the RHT neurotransmitters glutamate and/or substance P. PACAP-induced changes of [Ca2+]i were independent of cAMP, because they were not mimicked by forskolin or 8-bromo-cAMP. PACAP caused G-protein- and phospholipase C-mediated calcium release from inositol-trisphosphate-sensitive stores and subsequent protein kinase C-mediated calcium influx, demonstrated by treatment with GDP-beta-S, neomycin, U-73122, calcium-free saline, thapsigargin, bisindolylmaleimide, and chelerythrine. The calcium influx was insensitive to antagonists of voltage-gated calcium channels of the L-, N-, P-, Q- and T-type (diltiazem, nifedipine, verapamil, omega-conotoxin, omega-agatoxin, amiloride). Immunocytochemical characterization of the analyzed cells revealed that >50% of the PACAP-sensitive neurons were GABA-immunopositive. Our data demonstrate that in the SCN PACAP affects the [Ca2+]i, suggesting that different signaling pathways (calcium as well as cAMP) are involved in PACAPergic neurotransmission or neuromodulation. Melatonin did not interfere with calcium signaling, indicating that in SCN neurons the hormone primarily affects the cAMP signaling pathway.  相似文献
