Stainless steel AISI 304 surfaces were studied after a mild anodic polarization for oxide growth in the presence and absence of two derivatives of vitamin B2 (riboflavin and flavin mononucleotide) that can be secreted by metal-reducing bacteria and act as a chelating agent for iron species. The alterations in oxide chemistry were studied by means of surface-sensitive techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry analysis. The complementary electrochemical characterization revealed a preferential growth of an oxide/hydroxide iron-rich film that is responsible for an altered pit initiation and nucleation behavior. These findings suggest that as the corrosion behavior is determined by the interplay of the chemical and electronic properties, only a mild anodic polarization in the presence of redox-active molecules is able to alter the chemical and electronic structure of the passive film formed on stainless steel AISI 304. This helps to achieve a profound understanding of the mechanisms of microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) and especially the possible effects of the redox-active biomolecules, as they may play an important role in the corrosion susceptibility of stainless steel surfaces.  相似文献

TiBN coatings have high hardness and high adhesion. Due to these excellent properties there has been increasing interest in TiBN coatings. In this study, TiBN coatings were deposited on AISI D2 cold work tool steel and silicon wafers by closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering (CFUBMS). The structural, mechanical and adhesion properties of these coatings were analysed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, microhardness test, indentation test and scratch tests. TiBN coatings produced by magnetron sputtering exhibited a dense and columnar structure. These results indicate that TiB2, TiN and h-BN exist in crystalline forms at all coatings. The highest hardness was obtained at the lowest nitrogen flow rate. Very few cracks were observed at the edge of the indentation marks at the highest nitrogen flow rate. The highest critical load obtained with scratch test was identified as 102?N.  相似文献

In this study, Na‐montmorillonite was organically modified with cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) and intercalated with in‐situ polymerized indene. Polyindene(PIn)/Organo‐MMT nanocomposites were obtained with three different compositions and coded as: K1: [PIn(94.5%)/O‐MMT(5.5%)], K2: [PIn(92.8%)/O‐MMT(7.2%)], and K3: [PIn(87.9%)/O‐MMT(12.1%)]. These nanocomposites were subjected to full characterization with various techniques. Electrokinetic studies were conducted to reveal the zeta (ζ)‐potential characteristics of the nanocomposites. ζ‐potentials of the materials were observed to decrease with increasing O‐MMT content. The cationic (CTAB) and anionic (sodium dodecylsulfate) surfactants were shifted the ζ‐potentials of the colloidal dispersions to more positive and more negative regions, respectively whereas nonionic surfactant (Triton X‐100) caused almost no change. The pH and temperature were observed to shift the ζ‐potential values of the nanocomposites to more negative and slightly more positive regions, respectively. With the addition of mono (NaCl), di (BaCl2) and three (AlCl3) valent salts, the ζ‐potential of the nanocomposites were shifted to more negative, more positive, and much more positive regions, respectively. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, a new cationic monomer 2‐(3‐indol‐yl)ethylmethacrylamide (IEMA) derived from tryptamine was synthesized in a single step and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR. Then, one‐step preparation of novel poly[2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate‐c‐2‐(3‐indol‐yl)ethylmethacrylamide], or p(HEMA‐c‐IEMA), copolymeric hydrogels has been performed successfully with IEMA and 2‐hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) as monomers using free radical aqueous polymerization. The hydrogels were characterized with scanning electron microscopy, FTIR, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and texture profile analysis instruments. p(HEMA‐c‐IEMA) hydrogels were used for swelling, diffusion, drug release, and antibacterial activity studies. The drug‐release behavior of the hydrogels was determined as a function of time at 37 °C in pH 1.2 and 7.2. The swelling and drug‐release studies showed that an increased IEMA amount caused a higher increase in swelling and drug‐release values. Additionally, zero‐order, first‐order, and Higuchi equation kinetic models were applied to the drug‐release data, and the data fit well in the Higuchi model, and the Peppas power‐law model was applied to the release mechanism. Finally, the antibacterial activities of the hydrogels were screened against Gram‐positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram‐negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium). © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study aimed to determine the effect of accelerated weathering on gloss, surface hardness and colour changes of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.). Test samples were impregnated with Adolit KD‐5, Wolmanit CX‐8 and Celcure AC‐500 covered with cellulosic and polyurethane varnishes. The results showed that the values of surface hardness and gloss increased after accelerated weathering. While the surface hardness of Scots pine was increased for impregnated and polyurethane‐coated varnish, it decreased for impregnated and cellulosic varnish‐coated Scots pine after 1000 hours of accelerated weathering exposure. Copper‐based chemical impregnation and varnish coating developed the gloss of Scots pine specimens relative to the surface characteristics observed in single‐coated Scots pine specimens. While the most appropriate chemical was Celcure AC‐500 for surface hardness, it was Adolit KD‐5 for the gloss of Scots pine after 1000 hours of accelerated weathering exposure. Wood specimens impregnated prior to the application of varnish were more effective in stabilising the colour of Scots pine than Scots pine only coated with varnish. Polyurethane varnish‐treated Scots pine showed better colour stability for each partial and total accelerated weathering exposure period. The total colour changes were lowest for polyurethane varnish‐coated Scots pine impregnated with Celcure AC‐500 after 1000 hours of accelerated weathering exposure.  相似文献

In traditional wireless sensor network (WSN) applications, energy efficiency may be considered to be the most important concern whereas utilizing bandwidth and maximizing throughput are of secondary importance. However, recent applications, such as structural health monitoring, require high amounts of data to be collected at a faster rate. We present a multi-channel MAC protocol, MC-LMAC, designed with the objective of maximizing the throughput of WSNs by coordinating transmissions over multiple frequency channels. MC-LMAC takes advantage of interference and contention-free parallel transmissions on different channels. It is based on scheduled access which eases the coordination of nodes, dynamically switching their interfaces between channels and makes the protocol operate effectively with no collisions during peak traffic. Time is slotted and each node is assigned the control over a time slot to transmit on a particular channel. We analyze the performance of MC-LMAC with extensive simulations in Glomosim. MC-LMAC exhibits significant bandwidth utilization and high throughput while ensuring an energy-efficient operation. Moreover, MC-LMAC outperforms the contention-based multi-channel MMSN protocol, a cluster-based channel assignment method, and the single-channel CSMA in terms of data delivery ratio and throughput for high data rate, moderate-size networks of 100 nodes at different densities.  相似文献

Lately, it has been seen that wireless communication systems have been more developed and there has been a huge demand for multi‐spectral transactions. Using circuits for more than one function is a serious requirement in communication technology. Especially, it expected from RF output stages to show the same performance on more than one frequency. To that end, it is required to produce a solution with wideband designs. In this study, a novel power divider/combiner design with a layered conic line has been investigated for the RF energy harvesting applications. The center frequency was set at 2 GHz and concluded with three different designs. In each design, bandwidth and S parameter characteristics were compared according to the number of layers of the transmission, and it was observed that as the number of layers increases, the bandwidth also increases. According to the design result, triple layer Wilkinson power divider was selected to connect to Villard voltage doubler circuit. The Wilkinson power combiner circuit inputs were given between ?10 dBm and 5 dBm input power. As a result, when low input power was given, efficiency was observed about 70%.  相似文献

Carbon supported Pt-Ru catalysts were prepared at varying Pt:Ru ratios by polyol method. The crystallite sizes of these catalysts were determined by X-ray diffraction technique. The specific surface areas of these catalysts were also defined by Brunauer–Emmett–Teller technique. Cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements were conducted on these carbon supported Pt-Ru catalysts to investigate the effect of ruthenium on the ethanol electrooxidation kinetics. Results indicated that Pt-Ru (25:1) catalyst showed the best ethanol electrooxidation activity. In conclusion, ethanol electrooxidation mechanism was proposed.  相似文献

The aim of study was to investigate the effects of various curing protocols with quartz–tungsten halogen (QTH) or light‐emitting diode (LED) light‐curing units on the degree of conversion (% DC) of two dual‐cured core buildup resin composites. Two dual‐cured core buildup resin composites, Clearfil Dc Core Automix (CLF) and Grandio Core Dc (GR), were selected. Specimens were exposed to the polymerization protocols as follows: there was immediate photoactivation or photoactivation delayed by 2 or 5 min by a QTH or LED source, and one group was allowed to chemically polymerize and served as a control (n = 6). The % DC of the specimens was determined with attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The GR samples polymerized with QTH for the 5‐min‐delayed photoactivation had higher % DC values than those self‐cured, and the Clearfil Dc Core Automix (CLF) samples with immediate or delayed curing protocols with halogen yielded higher % DC values than the samples that were chemically polymerized. The comparison of the two resin composites polymerized with halogen showed a higher % DC for CLF than for GR in the 2‐min‐delayed photoactivation. On the other hand, when they were cured with LED, the % DC values of GR significantly increased after the 2‐min‐delayed photoactivation. In light of the results, it might be stated that CLF polymerized with QTH, could be the better option. GR provided adequate chemical polymerization; therefore, it might be useful in areas in which light curing is not possible. Clinicians should consider the polymerization characteristics of dual‐cured resin composites. Crosslinked networks (NPPCS) and linear polymers (LPPCS) of poly (p‐chloro styrene) were synthesized by free‐radical polymerization of p‐chloro styrene. NPPCS networks were swollen in four different molecular weights of LPPCS solutions in toluene at three different concentrations. The equilibrium swelling results were evaluated by means of Flory‐Rehner theory to obtain network–linear polymer interaction parameter, χ′23 between NPPCS and LPPCS. It was concluded that the parameter χ′23 decreased with molecular weight but increased with concentration of LPPCS in outer solution. The solvent independent interaction parameter between NPPCS and PPCS was estimated as 0.7 by extrapolation of the values of χ′23 to zero value of the fraction ratio of solvent to linear polymer, ν13 inside the network. As well as, the binary interaction parameters, χ12 of NPPCS with benzene, ethyl benzene, n‐propyl benzene and isopropyl benzene were obtained by means of Flory‐Rehner theory at temperatures between 25 and 55°C. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
