This paper presents a study that investigates the destructive energy output resulting from hydrodynamic bubbly cavitation in microchannels and its potential use in biomedical applications. The research performed in this study includes results from bubbly cavitation experiments and findings showing the destructive effects of bubbly cavitating flow on selected solid specimens and live cells. The bubbles generated by hydrodynamic cavitation are highly destructive at the surfaces of the target medium on which they are carefully focused. The resulting destructive energy output could be effectively used for biomedical treatments, such as destroying kidney stones (renal calculi) or killing cancer cells. Motivated by this potential, the cavitation damage to cancerous cells and material removal from chalk pieces (which possess similar material properties as some kidney stones) was investigated. Our results showed that cavitation could induce damage both on chalk pieces and leukemia/lymphoma cells. We discovered that hydrodynamic cavitation exposure had early and delayed effects on cancer cell survival. Hence, the potential of hydrodynamic bubbly cavitation generated at the microscale for biomedical treatments was revealed using the microchannel configuration as a microorifice (with an inner diameter of 147 μm and a length of 1.52 cm), which acts as the source of bubbly cavitating flows.  相似文献

The effect of partial substitution of Ca by Zn in Bi1.7Pb0.3Sr2Ca2−x Zn x Cu3O y at x=0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20 levels on the electrical and structural properties was investigated in this work. The characterization of the ceramics prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method were done by resistance–temperature measurements, XRD, SEM and density analysis. Low levels of Zn substitution of Ca caused significant changes in the properties of the ceramics. The low-T c superconducting properties were enhanced and the fraction of the low-T c (2212) phase were found to increase at x=0.15 level of Zn substitution at 830 °C sintering temperature. Zero resistance was observed only in sample D with x=0.15 and the T c was determined as 92 K. The SEM micrographs and the density analysis have shown that this was the densest packed ceramic.  相似文献

The ready mixed concrete industry has been developing rapidly as a result of technological improvements, especially for skyscrapers and high rise structures. Concrete design is a hard and expensive job, moreover it takes too much time. Concrete must conform to some special conditions such as durability and strength during its life cycle. The selection of an appropriate chemical admixture is a very important criterion to achieve the desired specifications for concrete. In this study, the effects of admixture components and admixture dosage on the response variables were examined using mixture experiments. Mixture experiments were conducted on mortar for the optimization of the chemical admixture for concrete. They were performed on a much smaller scale in the laboratory. Computer-generated D-optimal design was used to obtain mixture data due to the additional constraints on some of the component proportions. Mixture data was modeled employing second-degree Scheffé polynomials. A graphical approach based on trace plots was suggested for examining the effect of the admixture dosage. For the simultaneous optimization of multiple responses, a desirability function approach was used and the optimum component proportions were determined in each dosage level. The target was to reach an optimum point by obtaining maximum compressive strength and maximum water reduction for concrete with minimum cost of the admixture. The cost calculation was made for the optimum component proportions and, according to the objective, the most appropriate component combination was chosen. The results were validated by confirmation experiments and prediction intervals for mortar, and by further experiments for concrete.  相似文献

Websites have gained vital importance for organizations along with the growing competition in the world market. It is known that usability requirements heavily depend on the type, audience and purpose of websites. For the e-commerce environment, usability assessment of a website is required to figure out the impact of website design on customer purchases. Thus, usability assessment and design of online pages have become the subject of many scientific studies. However, in any of these studies, design parameters were not identified in such a detailed way, and they were not classified in line with customer expectations to assess the overall usability of an e-commerce website. This study therefore aims to analyze and classify design parameters according to customer expectations in order to evaluate the usability of e-commerce websites in a more comprehensive manner. Four websites are assessed using the proposed novel approach with respect to the identified design parameters and the usability scores of the websites are examined. It is revealed that the websites with high usability score are more preferred by customers. Therefore, it is indicated that usability of e-commerce websites affects customer purchases.  相似文献

In optical and wireless communications systems, the goal is to reach 10 Gbps or above data rates. In order to support such extremely high data rates, the physical layer generally uses orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation. Unlike serial transmission of symbols, the OFDM modulation transmits data with many parallel sub-carriers, which help to provide high bandwidth. Field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and digital signal processors (DSPs) are usually employed to process OFDM blocks in real time. However, FPGAs and DSPs are not cost effective, and they are difficult to adapt to new standards. One of the most computationally intensive functions in OFDM systems is the fast Fourier transform (FFT) computation process. This paper aims to accelerate the FFT process to achieve high communication throughput in real time. Two parallel approaches are implemented for two different NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU) architectures. To obtain the best performance values, several optimizations are implemented. Our general purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU)-based FFT computation achieves up to 24 Gbps throughput in real time.  相似文献

Hosted by TWI and supported by EPMA, the one day meeting attracted about 30 delegates that filled comfortably the premises to its capacity. Search over encrypted data recently became a critical operation that raised a considerable amount of interest in both academia and industry. Especially, as outsourcing, sensitive data to cloud prove to be a strong trend to benefit from the unmatched storage and computing capacities thereof. Indeed, privacy-preserving search over encrypted data, an apt term to address privacy-related issues concomitant in outsourcing sensitive data, have been widely investigated in the literature under different models and assumptions. In this work, we propose an efficient scheme that allows privacy-preserving search over encrypted data using queries with multiple keywords. Most important contributions of this work are as follows. Firstly, using a property referred as \(\delta \)-mean query obfuscation, the proposed scheme hides the search patterns, which are allowed to leak in many works in the literature including our preliminary work on the subject Orencik et al. (2013) [1]. Secondly, a two-server setting is employed to eliminate the correlation between the queries and matching documents sent to the user under the assumption that the two servers are not colluding. Thirdly, we propose a novel compression scheme that reduces both the communication cost between the two servers and the computation cost of the search operation more than 55 times compared to the standard approach. And finally, the proposed scheme also provides an effective scoring and ranking capability that is based on term frequency–inverse document frequency (tf-idf) weights of keyword–document pairs. Our analyses demonstrate that the proposed scheme is privacy-preserving, efficient and effective.  相似文献

In this paper, an S-transform-based neural network structure is presented for automatic classification of power quality disturbances. The S-transform (ST) technique is integrated with neural network (NN) model with multi-layer perceptron to construct the classifier. Firstly, the performance of ST is shown for detecting and localizing the disturbances by visual inspection. Then, ST technique is used to extract the significant features of distorted signal. In addition, an optimum combination of the most useful features is identified for increasing the accuracy of classification. Features extracted by using the S-transform are applied as input to NN for automatic classification of the power quality (PQ) disturbances that solves a relatively complex problem. Six single disturbances and two complex disturbances as well pure sine (normal) selected as reference are considered for the classification. Sensitivity of proposed expert system under different noise conditions is investigated. The analysis and results show that the classifier can effectively classify different PQ disturbances.  相似文献

Indoor radon levels in 20 dwellings of rural areas at the Kozak-Bergama (Pergamon) granodiorite area in Turkey were measured by the alpha track etch integrated method. These dwellings were monitored for eight successive months. Results show that the radon levels varied widely in the area ranging from 11±1 to 727±11 Bq m(-3) and the geometric mean was found to be 63 Bq m(-3) with a geometric standard deviation of 2 Bq m(-3). A log-normal distribution of the radon concentration was obtained for the studied area. Estimated annual effective doses due to the indoor radon ranged from 0.27 to 18.34 mSv y(-1) with a mean value of 1.95 mSv y(-1), which is lower than the effective dose values 3-10 mSv given as the range of action levels recommended by International Commission on Radiation Protection. All dosimetric calculations were performed based on the guidance of the UNSCEAR 2000 report.  相似文献

Biological treatability of raw and ozonated penicillin formulation effluent   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
In the present study, oxidative pre-treatment of pharmaceutical wastewater originating from the formulation of the penicillin Sultamycillin Tosylate Diydrate via ozonation at varying pH and ozone feed rates was investigated. Biological treatability studies were performed with a synthetic wastewater alone and supplemented with raw and ozonated penicillin formulation effluents. The highest COD (34%) and TOC (24%) removal efficiencies were obtained at pH 11.0, whereas the BOD5 value increased from 16 mg l(-1) to 128 mg l(-1) after 40 min of ozonation, corresponding to an applied ozone dose of 1670 mg l(-1) and 33% relative ozone absorption. The studies showed that no degradation of raw penicillin fraction (30% of total COD) occurred, and degradation of the synthetic wastewater being completely treatable without penicillin addition, was inhibited by 7%. Upon 40 min ozonation, the synthetic wastewater could be completely oxidized and at the same time 35% of ozonated penicillin wastewater removal was obtained. Respirometric studies were conducted in parallel and produced results indicating a 22% decrease in the total oxygen consumption rate established for raw penicillin formulation effluent compared to the results obtained from the aerobic batch reactor. No inhibition of the synthetic fraction was observed for the 40 min-ozonated penicillin formulation effluent, biodegradability of the 60 min-ozonated penicillin effluent decreased possibly due to recalcitrant oxidation product accumulation. The modeling study provided experimental support and information on inhibition kinetics in activated sludge model no. 3 (ASM3) by means of respirometric tests for the first time.  相似文献
