Lack of uniqueness of the kinematic solution of structures, analyzed as an assemblage of discretized elements assuming nonholonomic linearly-elastic/perfectly-plastic behaviour and a linearized yield surface, is studied. The occurrence of an elastoplastic mechanism leads to nonuniqueness; an elastoplastic mechanism is defined as a kinematically-admissible strain rate field made up of an admissible elastoplastic solution of the governing conditions and an add-on variable component consisting of a linear combination of plastic (collapse) mechanisms. The scalar multipliers of this linear combination are bounded, except at plastic collapse in which case the elastoplastic mechanism degenerates to a plastic mechanism. In the space of loads, the load paths that could coexist with nonuniqueness are restricted to a hyperplane or a crease of intersection of hyperplanes, defined by the equilibrium equations arising from the associated plastic mechanisms of the elastoplastic mechanism. The difference between any two competing displacement vectors would be normal to that hyperplane or crease, in the same manner plastic strain rates are to the yield surface according to the flow rule.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of morphological filters for the optimal restoration of noisy binary images is presented. The problem is formulated in a general form, and an optimal solution is obtained by using fundamental tools from mathematical morphology and decision theory. Consideration is given to the set-difference distance function as a measure of comparison between images. This function is used to introduce the mean-difference function as a quantitative measure of the degree of geometrical and topological distortion introduced by morphological filtering. It is proved that the class of alternating sequential filters is a set of parametric, smoothing morphological filters that best preserve the crucial structure of input images in the least-mean-difference sense  相似文献

This paper discusses the testing accomplished to determine the radio frequency (RF) susceptibility of a typical electroencephalograph (EEG) and to determine the effectiveness of lead X-ray shielding as an RF shield. New data are presented on threshold field strengths and frequencies which just begin to cause interference on a typical EEG brain scan. Results are combined with data from other studies to show that a typical EEG machine would be immune to the RF environment expected in the vicinity of most hospitals. Therefore, expensive RF shielding in a hospital EEG suite is usually not required. Finally, an inexpensive shielding system utilizing X-ray shielding which was developed by the U.S. Veterans Administration is presented.  相似文献

As a major pollutant source to urban receiving waters, the non-point source pollution from urban runoff needs to be well studied and effectively controlled. Based on monitoring data from urban runoff pollutant sources, this article describes a systematic estimation of total pollutant loads from the urban areas of Beijing. A numerical model was developed to quantify main pollutant loads of urban runoff in Beijing. A sub-procedure is involved in this method, in which the flush process influences both the quantity and quality of stormwater runoff. A statistics-based method was applied in computing the annual pollutant load as an output of the runoff. The proportions of pollutant from point-source and non-point sources were compared. This provides a scientific basis for proper environmental input assessment of urban stormwater pollution to receiving waters, improvement of infrastructure performance, implementation of urban stormwater management, and utilization of stormwater.  相似文献

The growing attention being given to improving water productivity at the catchment level has given rise to increased interest in the contribution of aquatic ecosystems and in particular fisheries to reducing rural poverty and improving food security. There is growing recognition that these natural resources have an important role to play in pro-poor water management in many of the world's river basins, but that capacity to optimize these benefits is constrained by a lack of appropriate technologies and tools to do so. The present paper provides an overview of the current state of understanding of these issues and identifies a number of challenges to be addressed, namely the need to: (i) build wider understanding of the value of river fisheries; (ii) understand the water requirements for sustaining river fisheries; and (iii) develop governance arrangements that bring fisheries to the decision-making table. It concludes by distilling from recent reviews of river fisheries valuation, environmental flows, and governance, a set of specific directions that need to be taken in order to meet these challenges.  相似文献

In this paper, we present an efficient cascading procedure for analyzing frequency selective surface (FSS) systems consisting of multiple FSS screens of unequal periodicity embedded in multiple dielectric layers. In this procedure, we first find a global period for the FSS system by studying the composite in its entirety. Next, we compute the scattering matrix [S] of each of the FSS subsystems for the global Floquet harmonics by applying a relationship we establish that maps the [S] matrix of the subsystem for the individual Floquet harmonics to that for the global harmonics. This mapping-cum-filling process substantially reduces the effort needed to compute the [S] matrix of a subsystem. Finally, we compute the [S] of the entire system by applying a modified cascading formulation, in which one matrix inversion step is eliminated, resulting in a reduction in the total computing resource requirement as well as time. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the technique.  相似文献

A strong motivation for insertion of optical interconnects in short-distance applications such as chip-to-chip or back-plane communication, apart from high bit rates, is their potential to achieve these bit rates at low power compared to the currently prevalent copper based interconnects. Thus, it is imperative to construct design methodologies which minimize the total optical link power dissipation. We present one such methodology, where we optimize the quantum-well modulators to minimize the power dissipation in modulator-based optical interconnects. In the first part of the paper, the focus is on obtaining the optimal modulator metrics [contrast ration (CR) and insertion loss], which yield the lowest total power (receiver and the modulator). The trends are studied as a function of the input laser power and bit rate. Having obtained the desirable modulator metrics and the corresponding power dissipation, in the second part, the focus is on the feasibility of these metrics in the light of voltage swing constraints. The biggest concern with the modulator based optical link is the low CR, especially at low voltage swing. While studying these concerns, we also provide insight into the physical design of the modulator including, its intrinsic region thickness, pre-bias voltage, and the size and the number of quantum-wells. Specifically, we outline the method to obtain the design parameters, which allows minimum power dissipation with the least laser power. This ultimately yields higher aggregate I/O bandwidth for chip to chip communication in power limited chips.  相似文献

A planar double-gate SOI MOSFET (DG-SOI) with thin channel and thick source/drain (S/D) was successfully fabricated. Using both experimental data and simulation results, the S/D asymmetric effect induced by gate misalignment was studied. For a misaligned DG-SOI, there is gate nonoverlapped region on one side and extra gate overlapped region on the other side. The nonoverlapped region introduces extra series resistance and weakly controlled channel, while the extra overlapped region introduces additional overlap capacitance and gate leakage current. We compared two cases: bottom gate shift to source side (DG/spl I.bar/S) and bottom gate shift to drain side (DG/spl I.bar/D). At the same gate misalignment value, DG/spl I.bar/S resulted in a larger drain-induced barrier lowering effect and smaller overlap capacitance at drain side than DG/spl I.bar/D. Because of reduced drain-side capacitance, the speed of three-stage ring oscillator of DG/spl I.bar/S, with 20% gate misalignment length (L/sub mis/) over gate length (L/sub g/), or L/sub mis//L/sub g/=20%, was faster than that of two-gate aligned DG-SOI.  相似文献

Who should control the Internet? A dozen years after the Internet became a mass medium, this issue has continued to grow in urgency, becoming white hot in fall 2005. At the September 2005 preparatory meeting for the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), a coalition of countries criticized the United States' unilateral control of the Internet's domain name system (DNS) and proposed the establishment of a multinational Council to supervise it. This proposal emerged from the Final Report of the UN Working Group on Internet Governance. Researchers from the Internet Governance Project, a university-based consortium for policy analysis, have concluded that the United States should internationalize governance of the Internet, but in a way that avoids intrusive, centralized control.  相似文献

Lasers containing a nanopatterned active layer demonstrating excellent threshold characteristics are presented. The nanopatterned active layer is fabricated using high-resolution electron beam lithography and selective-area metal organic chemical vapour deposition crystal growth.
