Ultrasonic velocity measurements have been used to estimate average grain size in an AISI type 316 stainless steel. For precise ultrasonic transit time measurements, the pulse-echo-overlap technique has been used. Master graphs relating ultrasonic velocity with metallographically obtained grain size have been generated. Using these graphs, grain sizes in new specimen have been obtained. The results indicate that grain size can be predicted with good confidence level using ultrasonic velocity measurements. Shear waves are found to be more sensitive for grain size measurement, as compared to longitudinal waves. The grain size estimated by velocity measurements is found to be more accurate when compared to that obtained by attenuation measurements.  相似文献

Drought is an insidious hazard of nature and is considered to be the most complex but least understood of all natural hazards. Large historical datasets are required to study drought and these involve complex interrelationships between climatological and meteorological data. Rainfall is an important meteorological parameter; the amount and distribution influence the type of vegetation in a region. To analyse the changes in vegetation cover due to variation in rainfall and identify the land-use areas facing drought risk, rainfall data from 1981 to 2003 were categorized into excess, normal, deficit and drought years. The Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) sensor's composite dataset was used for analysing the temporal and interannual behaviour of surface vegetation. The various land-use classes – crop land (annual, perennial crops), scrub land, barren land, forest land, degraded pasture and grassland – were identified using satellite data for excess, normal, deficit and drought years. Normalized Difference Vegetation Indices (NDVIs) were derived from satellite data for each land-use class and the highest NDVI mean values were 0.515, 0.436 and 0.385 for the tapioca crop in excess, normal and deficit years, respectively, whereas in the drought year, the groundnut crop (0.267) showed the maximum. Grassland recorded the lowest value of NDVI in all years except for the excess year. Annual crops, such as groundnut (0.398), pulses (0.313), sorghum (0.120), tapioca (0.436) and horse gram (0.259), registered comparatively higher NDVI values than the perennial crops for the normal year. The Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) was used to estimate vegetation health and monitor drought. Among land-use classes, the maximum VCI value of 92.1% was observed in onions for the excess year, whereas groundnut witnessed the maximum values of 78.2, 64.5 and 55.2% for normal, deficit and drought years, respectively. Based on the VCI classification, all land-use classes fall into the optimal or normal vegetation category in excess and normal years, whereas in drought years most of the land-use classes fall into the drought category except for sorghum, groundnut, pulses and grasses. These crops (sorghum 39.7%, groundnut 55.2%, pulses 38.5% and grassland 38.6%) registered maximum VCI values, revealing that they were sustained under drought conditions. It is suggested that the existing crop pattern be modified in drought periods by selecting the suitable crops of sorghum, groundnut and pulses and avoiding the cultivation of onion, rice and tapioca.  相似文献

This article reports a design that reliably adds reagents into droplets by exploiting the physics of fluid flow at a T-junction in the microchannel. An expanded section right after the T-junction enhances merging of a stream with a droplet, eliminates the drawbacks such as extra droplet formation and long mixing time. The expanded section reduces the pressure buildup at the T-junction and minimizes the tendency to form extra droplets; plays the role in creating low Laplace pressure jump across the interface of the droplet forming from the T-junction which reduces the probability of forming extra droplet in the merging process; provides space for droplet coalescence if there is an extra droplet due to droplet break-up before merging. In this design, after merging, the reactants are in axial arrangement inside the droplets which lead to faster mixing. Reliable addition of reagent to the droplets happens for the combination of flow rates in a broad range from 25 to 250 μl/h, for both DI water (Q DI) and fluorescent (Q fluo) streams.  相似文献

The adsorption of rhodamine B dye was carried out using sodium montmorillonite clay. The effect of parameters such as pH, adsorbent dosage and initial dye concentration was studied. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied and the Langmuir model was found to best fit the equilibrium isotherm data. Langmuir adsorption capacity was found to be 42.19 mg/g. Kinetic data followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. Maximum color removal was observed at pH 7.0. The ΔG° value was found to be negative, the adsorption process was feasible. The results indicate that sodium montmorillonite clay can be used for the removal of basic dyes from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

Grass blades (turf grass) have been selected as a cheap biomass source of producing activated carbon for supporting Pt particles for utilizing as electrocatalyst for H2 generation through electrolysis of water. Activation is done using ZnCl2 followed by thermal processing at 250 °C. 1% Pt was supported over the grass derived activated biomass carbon (G-ABC) powder to result in Pt@G-ABC. After physical characterization, Pt@G-ABC sample has been tested for its catalytic activity in 1 M sulfuric acid solution for H2 gas generation through Linear Sweep & Cyclic Voltammetry. Cost factor involved in the production of G-ABC has also been compared with the traditional commercially available carbon support. The studies suggest that grass may be considered not only as a potential alternative source for producing carbon supported catalyst for H2 generation but also highlight the production of low-cost carbon for further applications like electrode materials, adsorbent for color, odor and hazardous pollutants.  相似文献

Taking the spirophosphorus compound 3,9-dichloro-2,4,8,10-tetraoxo-3,9-diphosphaspiro-[5,5]-undecane-3,9-dioxide as one of the reactive monomers, a family of aromatic spirophosphates was synthesized using dihydric phenols, viz., resorcinol, hydroquinone, 4,4′–dihydroxydiphenyl, bisphenol-A and fluorene dicarbinol as the other monomers. The polymers were synthesized employing melt condensation technique under vacuum and characterized using FT-IR, 1H-, 13C- and 31P-NMR spectroscopic methods. The number average molecular weight of the polymers was determined using vapour phase osmometry. Thermal properties of the polymers were studied using differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetry techniques. These studies indicated that the polymers containing spirophosphato moiety undergo eruptive degradations in the temperature region 310°–380°C leading to the formation of dense carbonaceous foam. The present study confirmed the spirophosphate structure as an essential requirement to show intumescence.  相似文献

In the present study, numerical investigation of jet impingement cooling of a constant heat flux horizontal surface immersed in a confined porous channel is performed under mixed convection conditions with the limitation of the Darcy model. The results are presented in the mixed convection regime with wide ranges of the governing parameters: Péclet number (1 ? Pe ? 1000), Rayleigh number (10 ? Ra ? 100), half jet width (0.1 ? D ? 1.0), and the distance between the jet and the heated portion (0.1 ? H ? 1.0). It is found that the average Nusselt number increases with increase in either Rayleigh number or jet width for high values of Péclet number. The average Nusselt number also increases with decrease in the distance between the jet and the heated portion. The correlation for Nuavg in the forced convection regime is suggested. It is shown that mixed convection mode can cause minimum average Nusselt number unfavorably due to counteraction of jet flow against buoyancy driven flow. Hence, careful consideration must be given while designing a system of jet impingement cooling through porous medium.  相似文献

The study of macromolecular structure of coal has been subjected to intense research. Neyveli lignite was depolymerized using phenol and phosphotungstic acid and the resultant product was subsequently alkylated. The t-butylated depolymerized lignite exhibited enhanced extractability in organic solvents. The t-butylated depolymerized lignite was fractionated into different components using column chromatography (CC). Three major compounds were isolated and were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR and Mass spectral techniques.  相似文献
