Twelve patients with premature ejaculation were evaluated and the hypothalamic anterior pituitary-testicular axis studied to determine whether hormonal abnormalities occurred. Plasma testosterone and free testosterone levels were found to be diminished, as were LH and FSH levels. Four of 12 patients with premature ejaculation had increased prolactin levels. The findings of decreased testosterone without the expected increases in gonadotropin in male patients between 24 and 25 years old points to hypothalamic pituitary dysfunction as a factor in the genesis of the hypogonadal state. Further studies are needed to document the association of premature ejaculation and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, along with other possible clinical correlations that remain to be described.  相似文献

In a 22-year study, data were collected on aggressiveness and intellectual functioning in more than 600 subjects, their parents, and their children. Both aggression and intellectual functioning are reasonably stable in a subject's lifetime and perpetuate themselves across generations and within marriage pairs. Aggression in childhood was shown to interfere with the development of intellectual functioning and to be predictive of poorer intellectual achievement as an adult. Early IQ was related to early subject aggression but did not predict changes in aggression after age 8. Differences between early IQ and intellectual achievement in middle adulthood were predictable from early aggressive behavior. A dual-process model was offered to explain the relation between intellectual functioning and aggressive behavior. We hypothesized that low intelligence makes the learning of aggressive responses more likely at an early age, and this aggressive behavior makes continued intellectual development more difficult. We compare results for the number-weighted mean radius and polydispersity obtained either by directly fitting number distributions to dynamic light-scattering data or by converting results obtained by fitting intensity-weighted distributions. We find that results from fits using number distributions are angle independent and that converting intensity-weighted distributions is not always reliable, especially when the polydispersity of the sample is large. We compare the results of fitting symmetric and asymmetric distributions, as represented by Gaussian and Schulz distributions, respectively, to data for extruded vesicles and find that the Schulz distribution provides a better estimate of the size distribution for these samples.  相似文献

The mercury removal efficiency of a novel metal-organic framework (MOF) derived from the amino acid S-methyl-L-cysteine is presented and the process is characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. A feasibility study is further presented on the performance of this MOF—and also that of another MOF derived from the amino acid L-methionine—when used as the sorbent in mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). These MOF-based MMMs exhibit high efficiency and selectivity—in both static and dynamic regimes—in the removal of Hg2+ from aqueous environments, due to the high density of thioalkyl groups decorating MOF channels. Both MMMs are capable to reduce different concentration of the pollutant to acceptable limits for drinking water (<2 parts per billion). In addition, a novel device, consisting of the recirculation and adsorption of contaminated solutions through the MOF–MMMs, is designed and successfully explored in the selective capture of Hg2+. Thus, filtration of Hg2+ solutions with multiple passes through the permeation cell shows a gradual decrease of the pollutant concentration. These results suggest that MOF-based MMMs can be implemented in water remediation, helping to reduce either contaminants from accidental unauthorized or deliberate metal industrial dumping and to ensure access for clean and potable freshwater.  相似文献

Polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs), such as the archetypal spirobisindane-based PIM-1, are among the most promising new materials for making gas separation membranes with high permeance for potential use in high-throughput applications. Here it is shown that ultrapermeable PIMs can be prepared by fusing rigid and bulky triptycene (Trip) to the spirobisindane (SBI) unit. PIM-SBI-Trip and its copolymer with PIM-1 (PIM-1/SBI-Trip) are both ultrapermeable after methanol treatment (PCO2 > 20 000 Barrer). Old films, although less permeable, are more selective and therefore provide data that are close to the recently redefined Robeson upper bounds for the important CO2/CH4, CO2/N2, and O2/N2 gas pairs. Temperature-dependent permeation measurements and analysis of the entropic and energetic contributions of the gas transport parameters show that the enhanced performance of these polymers is governed by strong size-sieving character, mainly due to the energetic term of the diffusivity, and related to their high rigidity. Both polymers show a relatively weak pressure-dependence in mixed gas permeability experiments up to 6 bar, suggesting a potential use for CO2 capture from flue gas or for the upgrading of biogas.  相似文献
