Introduction: Obesity in asthmatic patients has important relationships with asthma control, pulmonary function, and quality of life. The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the literature on the effect of diet on asthma management in adults. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Scopus (January 1948–October 2014) for randomized clinical trials that evaluated the effects of diet in adults with asthma. Results: Of 12,215 studies identified, 21 were included. A reduction in weight of at least 7.5% from baseline as a result of caloric restriction can be beneficial for improving disease control, quality of life, and pulmonary function in obese patients with asthma. A dietary pattern rich in foods with potential antioxidant effect had an impact in improving asthma control, but with little clinical significance. Studies involving antioxidant supplementation showed improvements in asthma control with magnesium supplementation and less decline in lung function with vitamin C supplementation. Studies of fatty acid supplementation demonstrated effects on weight loss and improvement of asthma control and lung function. Studies of supplementation with propolis and caffeine reported significant increases in FEV1. Conversely, studies of high dietary salt intake reported greater declines in lung function. Conclusions: The evidence shows that, for obese adults with asthma, the best dietary intervention seems to be caloric restriction, regardless of specific dietary components. 相似文献
Cationic reverse flotation of quartz is the standard or reference concentration route for itabirites containing at least 45% iron. Preceding the flotation stage, desliming in hydrocyclones must be conducted to remove ultrafine and colloidal particles from the flotation feed. The flotation performance assessed by weight and metallurgical recoveries and silica contamination in the concentrate is impaired by lower iron feed grades. Exploratory experiments of magnetic separation indicated that iron oxide particles in the size range <37 µm are entrained toward the non-magnetic product. This finding suggested a campaign of testing an alternative circuit consisting of magnetic separation preceding reverse flotation. Magnetic separation plays the roles of desliming and pre-concentration. The achieved content of silica in the alternative route concentrate was 1.46%, meeting the market specification for blast furnace pellet of 2%. The alternative route yielded significant gains in weight and metallurgical recoveries, reaching values 3.3% and 4.4% higher, respectively. 相似文献
The success of biomaterials for bone regeneration relies on many factors, among which osseointegration plays a key role. Biogran (BG) is a bioactive glass commonly employed as a bone graft in dental procedures. Despite its use in clinical practice, the capability of BG to promote osseointegration has never been resolved at the nanoscale. In this paper, we present the workflow for characterizing the interface between newly formed bone and BG in a preclinical rat model. Areas of bone–BG contact were first identified by backscattered electron imaging in a scanning electron microscope. A focused ion beam in situ lift-out protocol was employed to prepare ultrathin samples for transmission electron microscopy analysis. The bone–BG gradual interface, i.e. the biointerphase, was visualized at the nanoscale with unprecedented resolution thanks to scanning transmission electron microscopy. Finally, we present a method to view the bone–BG interface in three dimensions using electron tomography. 相似文献
The
microstructural evolution during refill friction stir spot welding of an AlMgSc alloy was studied. The primary texture that developed in all regions, with the exception of the weld center, was determined to be 〈110〉 fibers and interpreted as a simple shear texture with the 〈110〉 direction aligned with the shear direction. The material flow is mainly driven by two components: the simple shear acting on the horizontal plane causing an inward-directed spiral flow and the extrusion acting on the vertical plane causing an upward-directed or downward-directed flow. Under such a complex material flow, the weld center, which is subjected to minimal local strain, is the least recrystallized. In addition to the geometric effects of strain and grain subdivision, thermally activated high-angle grain boundary migration, particularly continuous dynamic recrystallization, drives the formation of refined grains in the stirred zone.
A screening method for analysis of 46 antibiotics residues, belonging to different classes, such as tetracyclines, sulfonamides, fluoroquinolones, β-lactams, cephalosporins, macrolides and other minority groups was developed and validated for application in bovine milk and bovine, swine, poultry, equine, fish and shrimp meat samples. Sample preparation consists in solvent extraction followed by clean up with C18 bulk and low temperature purification. Instrumental analysis was performed using liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry system. Chromatographic separation was achieved using a C18 column. Mobile phase was composed by methanol and water. The method was validated according to Commission Decision 2002/657/EC criteria. Validation parameters such as specificity and detection capability (CCβ) were determined and considered suitable to the established criteria. Values of CCβ ranged from 1.0 to 50.0 μg L?1 or μg Kg?1, depending on the compound and the matrix. The proposed method has been applied into Brazilian National Residue Control Plan since 2013 for the determination of antibiotic residues. A total of 3833 samples were analyzed until the current date and 13 samples showed positive results with concentrations above the permitted. The method is fast, easy and adequate for high throughput analysis in routine laboratories. 相似文献
Immunotherapy has improved patient survival in many types of cancer, but for prostate cancer, initial results with immunotherapy have been disappointing. Prostate cancer is considered an immunologically excluded or cold tumor, unable to generate an effective T-cell response against cancer cells. However, a small but significant percentage of patients do respond to immunotherapy, suggesting that some specific molecular subtypes of this tumor may have a better response to checkpoint inhibitors. Recent findings suggest that, in addition to their function as cancer genes, somatic mutations of PTEN, TP53, RB1, CDK12, and DNA repair, or specific activation of regulatory pathways, such as ETS or MYC, may also facilitate immune evasion of the host response against cancer. This review presents an update of recent discoveries about the role that the common somatic mutations can play in changing the tumor microenvironment and immune response against prostate cancer. We describe how detailed molecular genetic analyses of the tumor microenvironment of prostate cancer using mouse models and human tumors are providing new insights into the cell types and pathways mediating immune responses. These analyses are helping researchers to design drug combinations that are more likely to target the molecular and immunological pathways that underlie treatment failure. 相似文献
Irradiation penetrates food tissues and effectively reduces the number of food microorganisms in fresh produce, but the efficacy of the process against internalized bacteria is unknown. The objective of this study was to understand the mechanisms of pathogen colonization of plants relative to lettuce leaf structures so that radiation treatment of fresh leafy vegetables can be optimized. Leaves of iceberg, Boston, green leaf, and red leaf lettuces were cut into pieces, submerged in a cocktail mixture of two isolates of Escherichia coli (Rifampicin resistant), and subjected to a vacuum perfusion process to force the bacterial cells into the intercellular spaces in the leaves. Sixty bags containing 20 g of lettuce each were tested. The inoculated leaves were gamma irradiated (Lanthanum-140, 0.16 kGy/h) at 0.25–1.0-kGy (surface dose values), with increments of 0.25 kGy at 15 °C. Microbial analysis was performed right after irradiation, including non-irradiated leaf pieces (controls). A dose uniformity ratio (max/min dose) of 2.8 was set to confirm the effect of non-uniform dose distribution. Calculated D10-values varied between 48 and 62% based on the dose distribution from the entrance dose. However, despite the subtle differences in composition and structure among the four lettuce varieties, the D10-values were not significantly different. Irradiation up to 1.0-kGy resulted in 3–4-log reduction of internalized E. coli on the lettuce leaves. The SEM images suggest that the contamination sites of pathogens in leafy vegetables are mainly localized on crevices and into the stomata. This study shows that irradiation effectively reduces viable E. coli cells internalized in lettuce, and decontamination is not influenced by lettuce variety. Ionizing irradiation effectively reduced the population of internalized pathogen in a dose-dependent manner and could be used as an effective killing step to mitigate the risk of foodborne disease outbreaks. 相似文献
The presence of biogenic amines (BA) along the processing stages and storage period of "Painho de Portalegre" and its relationship with the NaCl concentration on their levels were evaluated. Total BA concentration of current "Painho de Portalegre" dry fermented sausage increased (P<0.001) with drying/smoking processing time, attaining 655mgkg(-1) dry matter (DM) at day 6, a level about six times higher than that obtained in seasoned raw material mixtures before casing stuffing (115mgkg(-1)DM). Between day 30 and 40 in the drying/smoking house, that amount increased 20-fold (2500mgkg(-1) DM) over the initial concentration. After one month of storage under vacuum at room temperature, the concentration decreased by almost half to 1561mgkg(-1)DM. Excluding tyramine, the other BA were already present in the minced raw materials. However the sum of cadaverine, putrescine, histamine and tyramine, was well below 5mgkg(-1) proposed as BA limit for meat of high hygienic quality. Cadaverine was the most concentrated BA at the last stage of the drying/smoking (1430-1254mgkg(-1)DM, after 30 and 40 days, respectively), almost double the concentration of putrescine (882-779mgkg(-1)DM), followed by tyramine, β-phenylethylamine and spermine (376-311, 24 and 27-23mgkg(-1)DM, respectively). Variation was detected among production batches, possibly due to poor control of the processing conditions in traditional manufactures and the effects of the prevailing weather conditions. A higher salt concentration in the final product, 6% compared to 3%, led to a significant reduction in the BA level (P<0.001). This difference was particularly relevant in the early stage of the drying/smoking phase, during which the greatest microbial development mainly occurred in relation to cadaverine, β-phenylethylamine, putrescine and tyramine levels. 相似文献
