Scheduling projects is a difficult and time consuming process, and has far-reaching implications for any organization’s operations. By generalizing various aspects of project scheduling, decision makers are enabled to capture reality and act accordingly. In the context of the MISTA 2013 conference, the first MISTA challenge, organized by the authors, introduced such a general problem model: the Multi-Mode Resource-Constrained Multi-Project Scheduling Problem (MRCMPSP). The present paper reports on the competition and provides a discussion on its results. Furthermore, it provides an analysis of the submitted algorithms, and a study of their common elements. This paper introduces the third generation of Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscles (PPAM), which has been developed to simplify the production over the first and second prototype. This type of artificial muscle was developed to overcome dry friction and material deformation, which is present in the widely used McKibben muscle. The essence of the PPAM is its pleated membrane structure which enables the muscle to work at low pressures and at large contractions. In order to validate the new PPAM generation, it has been compared with the mathematical model and the previous generation. The new production process and the use of new materials introduce improvements such as 55% reduction in the actuator’s weight, a higher reliability, a 75% reduction in the production time and PPAMs can now be produced in all sizes from 4 to 50?cm. This opens the possibility to commercialize this type of muscles so others can implement it. Furthermore, a comparison with experiments between PPAM and Festo McKibben muscles is discussed. Small PPAMs present similar force ranges and larger contractions than commercially available McKibben-like muscles. The use of series arrangements of PPAMs allows for large strokes and relatively small diameters at the same time and, since PPAM 3.0 is much more lightweight than the commong McKibben models made by Festo, it presents better force-to-mass and energy to mass ratios than Festo models. 相似文献

The visual system groups image elements that belong to an object and segregates them from other objects and the background. Important cues for this grouping process are the Gestalt criteria, and most theories propose that these are applied in parallel across the visual scene. Here, we find that Gestalt grouping can indeed occur in parallel in some situations, but we demonstrate that there are also situations where Gestalt grouping becomes serial. We observe substantial time delays when image elements have to be grouped indirectly through a chain of local groupings. We call this chaining process incremental grouping and demonstrate that it can occur for only a single object at a time. We suggest that incremental grouping requires the gradual spread of object-based attention so that eventually all the object's parts become grouped explicitly by an attentional labeling process. Our findings inspire a new incremental grouping theory that relates the parallel, local grouping process to feedforward processing and the serial, incremental grouping process to recurrent processing in the visual cortex. The adsorption of micro-organisms at the gas/liquid interface causes both an increase in the oxygen respiration rate and a decrease in the oxygen diffusion coefficient near the interface. An increase in the oxygen consumption rate increases the oxygen mass transfer rate into the bacterial broth but a decreased oxygen diffusion coefficient reduces the mass transfer rate. Microprocessor-based signal processing equipment for frequencies up to 20 kHz have become compact and fast enough to allow direct on-line real-time analysis on power systems to determine behavior. A case study is presented for a small steelworks operating a 25-MVA open arc furnace, installing 6.5 MVA of thyristor control equipment and further power factor correcting equipment and harmonic filters on a system with ill-defined parameters, low short- circuit capacity, and already containing power factor correcting capacitors tuned at the third harmonic. Discrete spectrum analysis equipment, microprocessor-based and coupled via IEEE-bus to a microcomputer system, was used to do on-line analysis at various points in the system. The high-speed system enabled sophisticated signal processing to yield even and uneven harmonics, stochastic components, system parameters and resonances and mutual interference. Applied 2 independent probabilities of electric shock presentation to 12 naive male rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) as the independent variables defining schedules of aversive control: (a) the probability that a fixed signal period would end with a shock if a specified response were made and (b) the probability that the fixed signal period would end with shock if a specified response were not made. Systematic changes in the probability values generated several familiar schedules of aversive control, as well as several intermittent procedures. Response rate tended to rise during the signal period when the probability values were set so that not responding was more likely to produce a shock than responding; response rate tended to fall during the signal period when the probabilities were set so that responding was more likely to produce shock than not responding. Response patterning in time was also evident during the interval between signals when no consequences were programmed. These characteristics of response patterning reflected the changes in the 2 independent probability variables in ways that simple measures of response rate and shock rate alone did not. Indirect viewing systems such as tv cameras can potentially support drivers under low visibility conditions or when the driver's field of view (FOV) is restricted. In three experiments, we identified the critical image parameters of such systems on vehicle control. We used a taskbattery that measured lateral and longitudinal vehicle control in both simulated and real world driving. Important parameters are magnification factor (compared to unity, a magnification of 0.5 leads to a lower course stability and overestimation of speed and distance) and FOV (increasing the FOV from 50 degrees to 100 degrees improves performance in lateral control tasks). However, the positive effects of a doubled FOV cannot outweigh the negative effects of magnification 0.5, when both factors are confounded. Less critical is the image resolution (lowering the image resolution leads to distance overestimation and degraded longitudinal control) and image update rate (rates below 5 - 10 Hz decrease lateral control). Camera viewpoint (i.e., the location of the camera) is not critical for vehicle control. Overall, we can conclude that vehicle control with an indirect viewing system is proficient when the image parameters are adequately chosen. The pebble bed modular reactor (PBMR) is the first pebble bed reactor that will be utilised in a high temperature direct Brayton cycle configuration. This implies that there are a number of unique features in the PBMR that extend from the German experience base. One of the challenges in the design of the PBMR is developing an understanding of the expected behaviour of the reactor through analyses and simulations and managing the integrated design process between the designers, the physicists and the analysts.This integrated design process is managed through model-based development work. Three-dimensional CAD models are constructed of the components and parts in the reactor. From the CAD models, CFD models, neutronic models, shielding models, FEM models and other thermodynamic models are derived. These models range from very simple models to extremely detailed and complex models. The models are used in legacy software as well as commercial off-the-shelf software. The different models are also used in code-to-code comparisons to verify the results.This paper will briefly discuss the different models and the interaction between the models, and how the models are used in the iterative design process that is used in the development of the reactor at PBMR. 相似文献
