In the random utility modelling context, choice probabilities are unaffected by increasing linear transformations of the systematic
utility; hence its empirical specification is derived on the basis that only differences in utility matters and that the scale
of utility is arbitrary. We argue that choice probabilities remain unchanged if these linear transformations are made under
the deterministic perspective of a single individual choosing several times. But, in the random utility setting, parameter
estimates might be significantly affected by these transformations. In particular we focus on the effect of two order-preserving
transformations usually applied in the derivation of the representative utility from the conditional indirect utility function:
adding a constant to the utility of all alternatives and multiplying each alternative utility by a constant. We concentrate
on the two most popular specifications in transport mode choice: the “wage rate” (Train and McFadden Transport Res 12:349–353,
1978) and the “expenditure rate” (Jara-Díaz and Farah Transport Res 22B:159–171, 1987) specifications. Using a collection of synthetic datasets generated in a new fashion directly from the conditional indirect
utility function, i.e. before applying any expansion or transformation, we demonstrate how taking this class of order-preserving
transformations could lead to misinterpretation of the econometric results, such as detecting randomly distributed and correlated

In this pilot study, ethosomes and transethosomes were investigated as potential delivery systems for cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), whose deficiency has been correlated to many disorders such as dermatological diseases, systemic infections, cancer and sarcopenia. A formulative study on the influence of pharmaceutically acceptable ionic and non-ionic surfactants allowed the preparation of different transethosomes. In vitro cytotoxicity was evaluated in different cell types representative of epithelial, connective and muscle tissue. Then, the selected nanocarriers were further investigated at light and transmission electron microscopy to evaluate their uptake and intracellular fate. Both ethosomes and transethosomes proven to have physicochemical properties optimal for transdermal penetration and efficient vitamin D3 loading; moreover, nanocarriers were easily internalized by all cell types, although they followed distinct intracellular fates: ethosomes persisted for long times inside the cytoplasm, without inducing subcellular alteration, while transethosomes underwent rapid degradation giving rise to an intracellular accumulation of lipids. These basic results provide a solid scientific background to in vivo investigations aimed at exploring the efficacy of vitamin D3 transdermal administration in different experimental and pathological conditions. 相似文献

In this paper we investigate the surface chemistry, including surface contaminations, of SnO2 nanowires deposited on Ag-covered Si substrate by vapor phase deposition (VPD), thanks to x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) in combination with thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). Air-exposed SnO2 nanowires are slightly non-stoichiometric, and a huge amount of C contaminations is observed at their surface. After the thermal physical desorption (TPD) process, SnO2 nanowires become almost stoichiometric without any surface C contaminations. This is probably related to the fact that C contaminations, as well as residual gases from air, are weakly bounded to the crystalline SnO2 nanowires and can be easily removed from their surface. The obtained results gave us insight on the interpretation of the aging effect of SnO2 nanowires that is of great importance for their potential application in the development of novel chemical nanosensor devices. 相似文献

Cell migration is a crucial event for physiological processes, such as embryonic development and wound healing, as well as for pathological processes, such as cancer dissemination and metastasis formation. Cancer cell migration is a result of the concerted action of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), expressed by cancer cells to degrade the surrounding matrix, and integrins, the transmembrane receptors responsible for cell binding to matrix proteins. While it is known that cell-microenvironment interactions are essential for migration, the role of the physical state of such interactions remains still unclear. In this study we investigated human fibrosarcoma cell migration in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) fibronectin (FN) microenvironments. By using antibody blocking approach and cell-binding site mutation, we determined that $\upalpha _{5}\upbeta _{1}$ -integrin is the main mediator of fibrosarcoma cell migration in 2D FN, whereas in 3D fibrillar FN, the binding of $\upalpha _{5}\upbeta _{1}$ - and $\upalpha _\mathrm{v}\upbeta _{3}$ -integrins is not necessary for cell movement in the fibrillar network. Furthermore, while the general inhibition of MMPs with GM6001 has no effect on cell migration in both 2D and 3D FN matrices, we observed opposing effect after targeted silencing of a membrane-bound MMP, namely MT1-MMP. In 2D fibronectin, silencing of MT1-MMP results in decreased migration speed and loss of directionality, whereas in 3D FN matrices, cell migration speed is increased and integrin-mediated signaling for actin dynamics is promoted. Our results suggest that the fibrillar nature of the matrix governs the migratory behavior of fibrosarcoma cells. Therefore, to hinder migration and dissemination of diseased cells, matrix molecules should be directly targeted, rather than specific subtypes of receptors at the cell membrane. 相似文献

One of the most important problems affecting geothermal fields is the abatement of hydrogen chloride contained in the vapor phase. If the chloride concentration exceeds a few ppmw, steam scrubbing must be provided in order to prevent corrosion of the gathering system and turbine failure. In some fields at Larderello, one of the most important geothermal areas in Italy, steam scrubbing is performed by injecting a caustic solution directly into the steam pipeline. In particular, the abatement system depends on absorption with chemical reaction of hydrogen chloride by a sodium hydroxide solution. This paper describes some of the Larderello power plant abatement systems and presents analyses of the different solutions adopted for this purpose. Finally, some simplified models for computing abatement efficiency in sprays, pipelines, static mixers, cyclones and vane type demisters—the equipment generally used in these plants—are proposed. The proposed models are able to predict the data measured in these power plants with good accuracy, and so they can be regarded as useful tools for designing new abatement systems or optimizing the existing ones. 相似文献

The electrochemical oxidation of stabilized landfill leachate with 2960 mg L(-1) chemical oxygen demand (COD) over a Ti/IrO(2)-RuO(2) anode was investigated in the presence of HClO(4) as the supporting electrolyte. Emphasis was given on the effect of electrolysis time (up to 240 min) and temperature (30, 60 and 80°C), current density (8, 16 and 32 mA cm(-2)), initial effluent's pH (0.25, 3, 5 and 6), HClO(4) concentration (0.25 and 1M) and the addition of NaCl (20 and 100mM) or Na(2)SO(4) (20mM) as source of extra electrogenerated oxidants on performance; the latter was evaluated regarding COD, total carbon (TC), total phenols (TPh) and color removal. Moreover, the anode was studied by scanning electron microscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The main parameters affecting the process were the effluent's pH and the addition of salts. Treatment for 240 min at 32 mA cm(-2) current density, 80°C and the pH adjusted from its inherent value of 0.25 (i.e. after the addition of HClO(4)) to 3 yielded 90% COD, 65% TC and complete color and TPh removal at an electricity consumption of 35 kWh kg(-1) COD removed. Comparable performance (i.e. 75% COD reduction) could be achieved without pH adjustment but with the addition of 100mM NaCl consuming 20 kWh kg(-1) COD removed. 相似文献

To identify behaviors related to acquisition of tool-use in tufted capuchins (Cebus apella), we presented two tool-using tasks to two groups, extending findings by Westergaard and Fragaszy (1987) and Visalberghi (in press). Five Ss learned to use the tools in each task. The primary predictor of success was level of interest in the task. Observation of others at the apparatus did not facilitate exploratory behaviors or contact with the tools in the observers. Most animals performed exploratory behaviors more often when they were at the apparatus alone than when with another, whether or not the other was using a tool. Observers were quick to learn the relationship between another's activities and the appearance of food. We conclude that capuchins do not readily learn about instrumental relations by observation of others or imitate other's acts. By means of an apparatus featuring a set of suspended baited containers, search abilities of 4 capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella) were evaluated. The experiment featured different spatial configurations of the search space. Results showed that monkeys exhaustively searched 9 containers spatially distributed as a 3?×?3 matrix, a cross, a line, or a circle. Search efficiency was higher when the search space featured either a linear or circular arrangement of containers. When faced with a linear arrangement of containers, the subjects developed principled search trajectories from 1 end to the other of the linear array. This behavioral regulation was independent from search efficiency as measured by the amount of visits to containers already explored. The data suggest that monkeys use either the travel distance or the cognitive costs associated with unprincipled travel trajectories as currency for regulation. Since the 1990s an ecologically friendly alternative to insecticide treatments for controlling stored-product insect pests has been available: the methods of modified and controlled atmospheres, which involve reducing the quantity of oxygen (O2) in the air in order to kill insects by anoxia. This study examines the effect of treatments with controlled atmospheres, considering the time necessary to obtain total mortality of insects at percentages of O2 higher than those normally used in controlled atmospheres and estimating the possible positive influence of a temperature increase in order to compensate for the effects of the reduced anoxia.Adult populations of Tribolium confusum J. du Val were treated at various O2 percentages (1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10%) and temperatures (23, 26, 29, 32, 35, 37 and 40 °C). The relative humidity was very low (<18%) in all the treatments considered.Lethal exposure times varied from less than one day to a week (longer times were not considered).A multiple regression procedure was applied to the experimental data, considering the time necessary to obtain total mortality as the dependent variable.
