The adsorption and the redox processes of two first-generation salicylaldiamine dendritic ligands and their copper, cobalt and nickel metallo-functionalized complexes have been studied at two types of carbon electrode surface. Glassy carbon (GC) was used in an electrochemistry study and highly oriented pyrolitic graphite (HOPG) in ex situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging. All salicylaldimine ligands and their metallo-functionalized complexes adsorb on the surface of the HOPG electrode, resulting in the formation of nanoclusters and films, which vary between 0.9 and 6 nm in size, depending on the metallo-functionalized salicylaldimine dendrimer chemical composition and solution concentration. Differential pulse voltammetry of the surface-confined films has shown that the anodic reactions observed correspond to the oxidation of the hydroxyl groups present in the ligand structure of all compounds. However, by following the changes in peak currents, potentials and width at half height it has been shown that destabilization of the ligand internal structure occurred in the metallo-functionalized complexes depending on the metal involved. The electrochemical behaviour of the surface-confined films observed in buffer solution was related to the morphology, obtained by AFM, of the immobilised first-generation salicylaldiamine dendritic ligands and corresponding salicylaldimine metallo-functionalized complexes. 相似文献

In this study, we demonstrate particle and cell clustering in distinct patterns on the free surface of microfluidic volumes. Employing ultrasonic actuation, submersed microparticles are forced to two principal positions: nodal lines (pressure minima) of a standing wave within the liquid bulk, and distinct locations on the air–liquid interface (free surface); the latter of which has not been previously demonstrated using ultrasonic standing waves. As such, we unravel the fundamental mechanisms behind such patterns, showing that the contribution of fluid particle velocity variations on the free surface (acoustic radiation force) results in patterned particle clustering. In addition, by varying the size and density of the microparticles (3.5–31 μm polystyrene and 1–5 μm silica), acoustic streaming is found to increase the tendency for a smaller and lighter particle to cluster at the air–liquid interface. This selectivity is exploited for the isolation of multiple microparticle and cell types on the free surface from their nodally aligned counterparts. Free surface clustering is demonstrated in both an open microfluidic chamber and a sessile droplet, as well as using a range of biological species Escherichia coli, blood cells, Ragweed pollen and Paper Mulberry pollen). The behavior of stability regions of nonlinear autonomous dynamical systems subjected to parameter variation is studied in this paper. In particular, the behavior of stability regions and stability boundaries when the system undergoes a type‐zero sadle‐node bifurcation on the stability boundary is investigated in this paper. It is shown that the stability regions suffer drastic changes with parameter variation if type‐zero saddle‐node bifurcations occur on the stability boundary. This study examined the reliability and validity of the Mississippi Scale for Combat-Related Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (M-PTSD) in a sample of Vietnam combat veterans with PTSD (n?=?101) and substance-abusing patients without combat-related PTSD (n?=?102). The M-PTSD was found to have high internal consistency, and a principle-components analysis indicated that its items measure three dimensions: intrusive reexperiencing/numbing-avoidance, anger/lability, and social alienation. Discriminant validity of the M-PTSD was supported by its high sensitivity in identifying PTSD patients (93%) and specificity in discriminating them from substance-abusing control subjects (88.2%). Finally, convergent validity of the M-PTSD was substantiated by significant correlations of the instrument with measures of combat exposure and interview and psychometric measures of PTSD symptomatology. Two experiments, with 160 10-day-old Sprague-Dawley rat pups, examined the behavioral characteristics of the neonatal opioid system during distressful situations, using a modification of the hot-plate paw-lick test. Ss were analgesic to heat following intraperitoneal morphine (0.5 mg/kg). Subcutaneous naloxone (0.5 mg/kg) prevented the analgesia. Morphine analgesia was significantly greater in Ss group-isolated from the dam. Saline controls group-isolated from the dam exhibited longer latencies than their nest-housed siblings. Individual isolation for 5 min markedly increased paw-withdrawal latency, and this effect was naltrexone reversible. Analgesia was not seen when Ss were tested directly from the nest or when grouped with others for 5 min. It is suggested that the opioid systems for stress and pain are functional in 10-day-old rats and that short-term isolation from the dam is a probable natural stressor modulated by endogenous opioid release. Examined the relationship between job control and job strain. Three models of that relationship provide a framework for the study hypotheses: (H1) Control is inversely related to job strain, (H2) job demands interact with job control such that job strain will be highest when job demands are high and job control is low, and (H3) strain increases as the discrepancy between actual and desired levels of job control increases. Study participants (N?=?316) were health care workers in 2 hospitals in the northeastern US. Objective measures of job control and job demands were obtained through supervisor evaluations of incumbents' job characteristics, and perceptual measures were obtained through incumbents' self-reports. To support effective decision making, engineers should comprehend and manage various uncertainties throughout the design process. Unfortunately, in today's modern systems, uncertainty analysis can become cumbersome and computationally intractable for one individual or group to manage. This is particularly true for systems comprised of a large number of components. In many cases, these components may be developed by different groups and even run on different computational platforms. This paper proposes an approach for decomposing the uncertainty analysis task among the various components comprising a feed‐forward system and synthesizing the local uncertainty analyses into a system uncertainty analysis. Our proposed decomposition‐based multicomponent uncertainty analysis approach is shown to be provably convergent in distribution under certain conditions. The proposed method is illustrated on quantification of uncertainty for a multidisciplinary gas turbine system and is compared to a traditional system‐level Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis approach.
