A low‐power down‐sampling mixer in a low‐power digital 65 nm CMOS technology is presented. The mixer consumes only 830 µW at 1.2 V supply voltage by combining an NMOS and a PMOS mixer with cascade transistors at the output. The measured gain is (19 °1 dB) at frequencies between 100 MHz and 3 GHz. An IIP3 of ?5.9 dBm is achieved.  相似文献

The speed of sound (SOS) and the broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA), as determined by quantitative ultrasound at the calcaneum, were correlated with the bone mineral density (BMD) measurements using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry at the femoral neck and the lumbar spine in 110 females. There were moderate correlations of 0.629, 0.623 and 0.594 between the BMD at the anterior-posterior lumbar spine, lateral lumbar spine and femoral neck with the SOS at the calcaneum (all P < 0.001). The corresponding correlations with BUA were 0.646, 0.643 and 0.628 respectively (all P < 0.001). This suggests that quantitative ultrasound may be reasonably accurate and useful for the assessment of osteoporosis.  相似文献

X-ray computed tomography fluoroscopy (CTF) enables image guidance of interventions, synchronization of scanning with contrast bolus arrival, and motion analysis. However, filtered backprojection (FB), the current method for CTF image reconstruction, is subject to motion and metal artifacts from implants, needles, or other surgical instruments. Reduced target lesion conspicuity may result from increased image noise associated with reduced tube current. In this report, we adapt the row-action expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm for CTF. Because time-dependent variation in images is localized during CTF, the row-action EM-like algorithm allows rapid convergence. More importantly, this iterative CTF algorithm has fewer metal artifacts and better low-contrast performance than FB.  相似文献

Gruppo Italiano per lo Studio della Sopravvivenza nell'Infarto Miocardio (GISSI)-Prevenzione was conceived as a population, pragmatic trial on patients with recent myocardial infarctions conducted in the framework of the Italian public health system. In GISSI-Prevenzione, patients were invited to follow Mediterranean dietary habits, and were treated with up-to-date preventive pharmacological interventions. Long-term n-3 PUFA (1 g daily) but not vitamin E (300 mg daily), was beneficial for death and for combined death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and stroke. All the benefit, however, was attributable to the decrease in risk for overall, cardiovascular, cardiac, coronary, and sudden death.At variance with the orientation of a scientific scenario largely dominated by the “cholesterol-heart hypothesis”, GISSI-Prevenzione results indicate n-3 PUFA (virtually devoid of any cholesterol-lowering effect) as a relevant pharmacological treatment for secondary prevention after myocardial infarction.As to the relevance and comparability of GISSI-Prevenzione results, up to 5.7 lives could be saved every 1000 patients with previous myocardial infarction treated with n-3 PUFA (1 g daily) per year. Such a result is comparable to that observed in the Long-Term Intervention with Pravastatin in Ischaemic Disease (LIPID) trial, where 5.2 lives could be saved per 1000 hypercholesterolemic, coronary heart disease patients treated with pravastatin for 1 yr.The choice of a relatively low-dose regimen (1-g capsule daily) more acceptable for long-term treatment in a population of patients following Mediterranean dietary habits, and the pattern of effects seen in GISSI-Prevenzione (namely, reduction of overall mortality with no decrease in the rate of nonfatal myocardial infarction) all strongly suggest that n-3 PUFA treatment should be considered a recommended new component of secondary prevention. The importance of this combined/additive effect is further suggested by the analyses of the interplay between diet and n-3 PUFA: There is an interesting direct correlation between size of the effect and “correctness” of background diets. It can be anticipated that a conceptual barrier must be overcome: A “dietary drug” should be added to “dietary advice”, which remains fundamental to allow this statement to become true in clinical practice.  相似文献

Two babies with duct-dependent cyanotic congenital heart disease were palliated with modified Blalock-Taussig shunts. One patient was diagnosed to have tetralogy of Fallot, and the other patient, tricuspid atresia type Ia. Early postoperative arterial oxygen saturations dropped significantly due to shunt thrombosis. Both patients were successfully treated with angioplasty and stent implantation.  相似文献

Knowledge on absolute protein concentrations is mandatory for the simulation of biological processes in the context of systems biology. A novel approach for the absolute quantification of proteins at a global scale has been developed and its applicability demonstrated using glucose starvation of the Gram-positive model bacterium Bacillus subtilis and the pathogen Staphylococcus aureus as proof-of-principle examples. Absolute intracellular protein concentrations were initially determined for a preselected set of anchor proteins by employing a targeted mass spectrometric method and isotopically labeled internal standard peptides. Known concentrations of these anchor proteins were then used to calibrate two-dimensional (2-D) gels allowing the calculation of absolute abundance of all detectable proteins on the 2-D gels. Using this approach, concentrations of the majority of metabolic enzymes were determined, and thus a quantification of the players of metabolism was achieved. This new strategy is fast, cost-effective, applicable to any cell type, and thus of value for a broad community of laboratories with experience in 2-D gel-based proteomics and interest in quantitative approaches. Particularly, this approach could also be utilized to quantify existing data sets with the aid of a few standard anchor proteins.  相似文献

This paper presents the results from a 150 h test of a commercial high temperature single planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) operating on wood gas from the Viking two-stage fixed-bed downdraft gasifier, which produces an almost tar-free gas, that was further cleaned for particulates, sulphur and tar traces. The chosen SOFC was electrolyte supported with a nickel/gadolinium-doped cerium oxide (Ni-GDC) anode, known for its carbon deposition resistance. Through humidification the steam to carbon ratio (S/C) was adjusted to 0.5, which results in a thermodynamically carbon free condition at the SOFC operating temperature T = 850 °C. The cell operated with a fuel utilisation factor (Uf) around 30% and a current density of 260 mA cm−2 resulting in an average power density of 207 mW cm−2. Throughout the duration of the test, only a minor cell overpotential increase of 10 mV was observed. Nevertheless, the Vj (voltage–current density) curves on H2/N2 before and after the wood gas test proved identical. Extensive SEM/EDS examination of the cell's anode showed that there was neither carbon deposition nor significant shifts in the anode microstructure or contamination when compared to an identical cell tested on H2/N2 only.  相似文献

This work aims at improving the surface chemistry and the mechanical properties of a commercial acrylic–melamine clear coat using a functional siliconized additive. The resistance of films against biological degradation was then investigated using pancreatin (simulated bird droppings) and Arabic gum (simulated tree gum). Variations in the surface and bulk chemical structures, as well as the thermomechanical characteristics of the clear coats at different concentrations of the additive, were investigated by a wide range of techniques inclusive of contact angle measurement, gonio‐spectrophotometery, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, atomic force microscope, optical microscope, and attenuated totalreflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR‐FTIR) spectroscopy. Negligible effect of additive on color change was revealed. It was shown that even at low loadings of additive it could migrate to the surface, producing hydrophobic films with very low surface free energies with water contact angle exceeding 100°. In addition, it was found by DMTA and ATR‐FTIR studies that the functional additive was covalently attached to the acrylic–melamine chains through its hydroxyl groups. However, phase separation was observed at high concentrations of additive, leading to reduced crosslinking density. ABSTRACT

A light scattering technique, based on resonances, has been applied to a linear stream of highly monodisperse droplets generated by a modified vibrating orifice aerosol generator to study evaporation of ethanol droplets. The residence time of droplets was varied by altering the distance between the orifice and a laser beam. Frequencies at which intensity peaks (i.e., resonances) appear in elastic and Raman scattered light were determined by varying the frequency of droplet generation. The absolute droplet size and refractive index were determined by matching the observed resonances with theoretical resonances that minimize the difference between the observed and calculated resonance frequencies. The size and refractive index changes between two successive residence time observations were determined from the frequency shifts of the resonances. These procedures permit determination of size and refractive index with a precision of 2 parts in 104, and their changes within 1 part in 104 of the absolute values. For the examined residence time of 650 μs the evaporation process was unsteady. The evaporation rate as well as droplet temperature estimated from the refractive index was found to decrease with time. The experimental technique can be applied to study any fast process associated with microdroplets where observable changes occur over microsecond level time scales.  相似文献

With cardiovascular diseases affecting millions of patients, new treatment strategies are urgently needed. The use of stem cell based approaches has been investigated during the last decades and promising effects have been achieved. However, the beneficial effect of stem cells has been found to being partly due to paracrine functions by alterations of their microenvironment and so an interesting field of research, the “stem- less” approaches has emerged over the last years using or altering the microenvironment, for example, via deletion of senescent cells, application of micro RNAs or by modifying the cellular energy metabolism via targeting mitochondria. Using autologous muscle-derived mitochondria for transplantations into the affected tissues has resulted in promising reports of improvements of cardiac functions in vitro and in vivo. However, since the targeted treatment group represents mainly elderly or otherwise sick patients, it is unclear whether and to what extent autologous mitochondria would exert their beneficial effects in these cases. Stem cells might represent better sources for mitochondria and could enhance the effect of mitochondrial transplantations. Therefore in this review we aim to provide an overview on aging effects of stem cells and mitochondria which might be important for mitochondrial transplantation and to give an overview on the current state in this field together with considerations worthwhile for further investigations.  相似文献
