The surface transformation and damage in AISI O1, A2, D2 and D6 tool steels after EDM were investigated. The results show that the recast layer is composed of two distinct layers: a topmost layer solidifying inwards from the specimen surface and an intermediate layer solidifying outwards from the base of the molten metal. The depth of surface cracks is found to correlate well with the thickness of the white layer, the latter being a layer of rapidly solidified material which, depending on the tool steel material, may consist either primarily of the topmost recast layer, or both the topmost and a large part of the intermediate recast layer. The density of surface cracks, however, correlates better with the thickness of the overall recast layer.
Attempts were made to quantify the depth of white (or damaged) layer with respect to the process parameters and surface roughness after EDM. It is found that with a fixed dielectric and flushing condition, the damaged layer correlates well with the pulse energy irrespective of thetool steel material. On the other hand, even though the thickness of the white layer increases with the surface roughness, the result shows considerably more scatter. Based on the present findings, ways of estimating the depth of the damaged layer produced by EDM are proposed. 相似文献

The phase transformations which occur in the all-β titanium alloy Ti-13V-llCr-3Al at temperatures below ∼ 500°C have been
studied by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and electrical resistivity techniques. The decomposition of
the metastable β phase has been found to proceed through a transition reaction leading to the formation of two bcc phases
rather than through the precipitation of the ω phase as has been previously reported. An interpretation of the observed decomposition

As technology scales down into deep-submicron, leakage energy is becoming a dominant source of energy consumption. Leakage energy is generally proportional to the area of a circuit and caches constitute a large portion of the die area. Therefore, there has been much effort to reduce leakage energy in caches. Most techniques have been targeted at cell leakage energy optimization. Bitline leakage energy is critical as well. To this end, we propose a predictive precharging scheme to reduce bitline leakage energy consumption. Results show that energy savings are significant with little performance degradation. Also, our predictive precharging is more beneficial in more aggressively scaled technologies. 相似文献

Flame synthesis is one of the most versatile and promising technologies for large-scale production of nanoscale materials. Pyrolysis has recently been shown to be a useful route for the production of single-walled nanotubes, quantum dots and a wide variety of nanostructured ceramic oxides for catalysis and electrochemical applications. An understanding of the mechanisms of nanostructural growth in flames has been hampered by a lack of direct observations of particle growth, owing to high temperatures (2,000 K), rapid kinetics (submillisecond scale), dilute growth conditions (10(-6) volume fraction) and optical emission of synthetic flames. Here we report the first successful in situ study of nanoparticle growth in a flame using synchrotron X-ray scattering. The results indicate that simple growth models, first derived for colloidal synthesis, can be used to facilitate our understanding of flame synthesis. Further, the results indicate the feasibility of studies of nanometre-scale aerosols of toxicological and environmental concern. 相似文献

An approximate method is suggested for evaluating the strength of plates containing circular holes when subjected to linearly varying edge displacements. The peak load is evaluated as the one causing the first yield at the edges. The proposed method of solution is validated by a large number of tests on scaled-down models carried out on a specially fabricated rig. Biological signals are complex and often require intelligent systems for recognition of characteristic signals. In order to improve the reliability of the recognition or automated diagnostic systems, hybrid fuzzy logic committee neural networks were developed and the system was used for recognition of swallow acceleration signals from artifacts. Two sets of fuzzy logic-committee networks (FCN) each consisting of seven member networks were developed, trained and evaluated. The FCN-I was used to recognize dysphagic swallow from artifacts, and the second committee FCN-II was used to recognize normal swallow from artifacts. Several networks were trained and the best seven were recruited into each committee. Acceleration signals from the throat were bandpass filtered, and several parameters were extracted and fed to the fuzzy logic block of either FCN-I or FCN-II. The fuzzified membership values were fed to the committee of neural networks which provided the signal classification. A majority opinion of the member networks was used to arrive at the final decision. Evaluation results revealed that FCN correctly identified 16 out of 16 artifacts and 31 out of 33 dysphagic swallows. In two cases, the decision was ambiguous due to the lack of a majority opinion. FCN-II correctly identified 24 out of 24 normal swallows, and 28 out of 29 artifacts. In one case, the decision was ambiguous due to the lack of a majority opinion. The present hybrid intelligent system consisting of fuzzy logic and committee networks provides a reliable tool for recognition and classification of acceleration signals due to swallowing. 相似文献

The algorithm we consider here is a block-iterative (or ordered subset) version of the interior point algorithm for transmission reconstruction. Our algorithm is an interior point method because each vector of the iterative sequence [x(k)], k = 0, 1, 2, ... satisfies the constraints a(j) < x(j)k < b(j), j = 1, ..., J. Because it is a block-iterative algorithm that reconstructs the transmission attenuation map and places constraints above and below the pixel values of the reconstructed image, we call it the BITAB method. Computer simulations using the three-dimensional mathematical cardiac and torso phantom, reveal that the BITAB algorithm in conjunction with reasonably selected prior upper and lower bounds has the potential to improve the accuracy of the reconstructed attenuation coefficients from truncated fan beam transmission projections. By suitably selecting the bounds, it is possible to restrict the over estimation of coefficients outside the fully sampled region, that results from reconstructing truncated fan beam projections with iterative transmission algorithms such as the maximum-likelihood gradient type algorithm. 相似文献

Wireless multimedia studies have revealed that forward error correction (FEC) on corrupted packets yields better bandwidth utilization and lower delay than retransmissions. To facilitate FEC-based recovery, corrupted packets should not be dropped so that maximum number of packets is relayed to a wireless receiver's FEC decoder. Previous studies proposed to mitigate wireless packet drops by a partial checksum that ignored payload errors. Such schemes require modifications to both transmitters and receivers, and incur packet-losses due to header errors. In this paper, we introduce a receiver-based scheme which uses the history of active multimedia sessions to detect transmitted values of corrupted packet headers, thereby improving wireless multimedia throughput. Header detection is posed as the decision-theoretic problem of multihypothesis detection of known parameters in noise. Performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated using trace-driven video simulations on an 802.11b local area network. Reuse of software assets in application development has held promise but faced challenges. In addressing these challenges, research has focused on organizational- and project-level factors while neglecting grass-root level adoption of reusable assets. Our research investigated factors associated with individual software developers’ intention to reuse software assets and integrated them in TAM. Towards that end, 13 project managers were interviewed and 207 software developers were surveyed in India. Results revealed that the technological-level (infrastructure), and individual-level factors (reuse-related experience and self-efficacy) were major determinants. Implications are discussed. 相似文献
