The high inherent surface roughness of as-deposited polycrystalline diamond films has made effective planarization processing
of these films essential for most industrial applications. We have investigated the efficacy of ion beam sources for planarization
in an electron cyclotron resonance plasma system using both direct substrate biasing and an accelerating grid system. Rough
polycrystalline diamond films were synthesized using hot filament chemical vapor deposition. Both the etching rates and the
resultant surface roughnesses were found to decrease as the angle of incidence (relative to the substrate surface normal)
of the ion beam was increased. In the case of direct biasing of the sample, acicular features were observed following processing
at higher incident angles. The use of double ion-extraction grids in conjunction with concomitant sample rotation was found
to produce more uniform planarization of the diamond films. The rate of surface roughness reduction was found to be nonlinear
and decreased with time. For both ion extraction methods investigated, the average film roughness (Ra) was significantly reduced from 0.2 to 0.05–0.06 μm. 相似文献

An attempt has been made in this paper to estimate the reliability of an s-out-of-k system with non-identical component strengths when component strengths follow an exponential distribution. A further assumption is made that all the components are subjected to a common random stress which also follow an exponential distribution. Bayes and maximum likelihood estimators of such system reliability are considered. A Bayes estimate is obtained by using Lindley's approximation. Comparisons are made on the basis of efficiency and Pitman nearness probability through a Monte-Carlo study. 相似文献

We develop a method to estimate the variation of leakage current due to both intra-die and inter-die gate length process variability. We derive an analytical expression to estimate the probability density function (PDF) of the leakage current for stacked devices found in CMOS gates. These distributions of individual gate leakage currents are then combined to obtain the mean and variance of the leakage current for an entire circuit. We also present an approach to account for both the inter- and intra-die gate length variations to ensure that the circuit leakage PDF correctly models both types of variation. The proposed methods were implemented and tested on a number of benchmark circuits. Comparison to Monte Carlo simulation validates the accuracy of the proposed method and demonstrates the efficiency of the proposed analysis method. Comparison with traditional deterministic leakage current analysis demonstrates the need for statistical methods for leakage current analysis. 相似文献

Packetized access has some potential advantages over conventional circuit-switched-based access methods because several signal sources can share the same radio channel using statistical multiplexing. We consider radio resource assignment algorithms for packetized access based on the packet-reservation multiple-access (PRMA) protocol in the presence of cochannel interference. The statistical multiplexing gain of packet access is limited by frequency reuse, especially when the reuse factor is low or duality requirement is high. We propose a fuzzy logic-based adaptive medium-access control (MAC) algorithm to improve packet-access efficiency. The absorption of laser energy by the plasma during pulsed laser deposition of thin films has been analyzed theoretically.
The amount of laser energy absorbed in the plasma termed as the “plasma shielding factor” is a function of the incident laser
wavelength, and time dependent plasma dimensions and electron density. Due to time varying parameters, a quantitative analysis
of the plasma absorption is difficult. A model which takes into account the absorption of laser energy by the plasma has been
developed. In this model, the time-dependent plasma dimension is replaced by the time dependent ablation depth. Using simulated
absorption coefficient values, the ablation characteristics of silicon and high Tc superconductors are computed and compared with experimental results. The plasma shielding factor was found to vary approximately
linearly with absorbed laser energy. The calculations also showed that the plasma shielding was strongly dependent on the
laser fluence but varies very weakly with the simulated plasma absorption coefficient values. Experimental results on plume

Here, novel nanoprobes for combined optical and magnetic resonance (MR) bioimaging are reported. Fluoride (NaYF4) nanocrystals (20–30 nm size) co‐doped with the rare earth ions Gd3+ and Er3+/Yb3+/Eu3+ are synthesized and dispersed in water. An efficient up‐ and downconverted photoluminescence from the rare‐earth ions (Er3+ and Yb3+ or Eu3+) doped into fluoride nanomatrix allows optical imaging modality for the nanoprobes. Upconversion nanophosphors (UCNPs) show nearly quadratic dependence of the photoluminescence intensity on the excitation light power, confirming a two‐photon induced process and allowing two‐photon imaging with UCNPs with low power continuous wave laser diodes due to the sequential nature of the two‐photon process. Furthermore, both UCNPs and downconversion nanophosphors (DCNPs) are modified with biorecognition biomolecules such as anti‐claudin‐4 and anti‐mesothelin, and show in vitro targeted delivery to cancer cells using confocal microscopy. The possibility of using nanoprobes for optical imaging in vivo is also demonstrated. It is also shown that Gd3+ co‐doped within the nanophosphors imparts strong T1 (Spin‐lattice relaxation time) and T2 (spin‐spin relaxation time) for high contrast MR imaging. Thus, nanoprobes based on fluoride nanophosphors doped with rare earth ions are shown to provide the dual modality of optical and magnetic resonance imaging. 相似文献

This paper describes the design and analysis of a low‐power medium access control (MAC) protocol for wireless/mobile ATM networks.
The protocol – denoted EC‐MAC (energy conserving medium access control) – is designed to support different traffic types with
quality‐of‐service (QoS) provisions. The network is based on the infrastructure model where a base station (BS) serves all
the mobiles currently in its cell. A reservation‐based approach is proposed, with appropriate scheduling of the requests from
the mobiles. This strategy is utilized to accomplish the dual goals of reduced energy consumption and quality of service provision
over wireless links. A priority round robin with dynamic reservation update and error compensation scheduling algorithm is
used to schedule the transmission requests of the mobiles. Discrete‐event simulation has been used to study the performance
of the protocol. A comparison of energy consumption of the EC‐MAC to a number of other protocols is provided. This comparison
indicates the EC‐MAC has, in general, better energy consumption characteristics. Performance analysis of the proposed protocol
with respect to different quality‐of‐service parameters using video, audio and data traffic models is provided.

The impact of parameter variations on timing due to process variations has become significant in recent years. In this paper, we present a statistical timing analysis (STA) framework with quadratic gate delay models that also captures spatial correlations. Our technique does not make any assumption about the distribution of the parameter variations, gate delays, and arrival times. We propose a Taylor-series expansion-based quadratic representation of gate delays and arrival times which are able to effectively capture the nonlinear dependencies that arise due to increasing parameter variations. In order to reduce the computational complexity introduced due to quadratic modeling during STA, we also propose an efficient linear modeling driven quadratic STA scheme. We ran two sets of experiments assuming the global parameters to have uniform and Gaussian distributions, respectively. On an average, the quadratic STA scheme had 20.5times speedup in runtime as compared to Monte Carlo simulations with an rms error of 0.00135 units between the two timing cummulative density functions (CDFs). The linear modeling driven quadratic STA scheme had 51.5times speedup in runtime as compared to Monte Carlo simulations with an rms error of 0.0015 units between the two CDFs. Of late, there has been an avalanche of cross-layer design proposals for wireless networks. A number of researchers have looked at specific aspects of network performance and, approaching cross-layer design via their interpretation of what it implies, have presented several cross-layer design proposals. These proposals involve different layers of the protocol stack, and address both cellular and ad hoc networks. There has also been work relating to the implementation of cross-layer interactions. It is high time that these various individual efforts be put into perspective and a more holistic view be taken. In this article, we take a step in that direction by presenting a survey of the literature in the area of cross-layer design, and by taking stock of the ongoing work. We suggest a definition for cross-layer design, discuss the basic types of cross-layer design with examples drawn from the literature, and categorize the initial proposals on how cross-layer interactions may be implemented. We then highlight some open challenges and new opportunities for cross-layer design. Designers presenting cross-layer design proposals can start addressing these as they move ahead. 相似文献

To overcome the problem of inconsistency of the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimators for regression coefficients in a linear measurement error model, we assume the reliability ratio to be known a priori and utilize this information to form consistent estimators in an ultrastructural models.
