Entwicklung und Erprobung eines Verfahrens zur Untergrundentsäuerung von Kippengrundwässern

Sulfate-reducing processes were initiated in an aquifer with AMD-laden groundwater orthogonally to the located main groundwater flow direction. Groundwater was intermittently circulated between two wells. Substrate (methanol) and nutrients were added to this flow. After one year a sulphate-reducing reactor was formed in the aquifer, that precipitated FeS and decreased the acidity. These effects could still be observed one year after cessation of substrate amendment.     

Bezold–Brucke effect exists in related and unrelated colors and resembles the Abney effect

An Erratum has been published for this article in Color Research and Application 29:402, 2004 . I wish to correct a sometimes‐held misconception that Bezold–Brucke hue‐shift applies only to aperture colors and not to real object colors. Sex similarities in verbal and performance IQ deficits following unilateral cerebral lesions.

Investigated whether men and women produce similar Verbal IQ and Performance IQ patterns following unilateral cerebral lesions. Ss included 24 women (mean age 43.96 yrs) and 24 men (mean age 45.08 yrs) with independent neurological evidence of neoplastic or vascular lesions of the right cerebral hemisphere, 24 women (mean age 47.88 yrs) and 24 men (mean age 47.50 yrs) with such lesion evidence of the left cerebral hemisphere, and 14 female (mean age 46.43 yrs) and 14 male (mean age 45.50 yrs) controls. Each group was equated for education, lesion site, severity, chronicity, and etiology. Ss were administered the Wechsler-Bellevue Intelligence Scale, and differences in Verbal and Performance IQ values were compared. Contrary to reports in the literature, no consistent evidence of Sex?×?Lesioned Hemisphere interactions was found. Differences in the lateralization effects between men and women were not reflected in direction or pattern but only in magnitude, arguing against a theory of differential cognitive lateralization according to sex. Characterization of the surface area of overflow droplets generated by a gas-lift pump under reduced pressure

Water-modelling experiments were carried out to characterize the surface area of overflow droplets generated by a gas-lift pump under reduced pressure as a function of various operating parameters, namely, top pressure, gas flow rate, nozzle submergence, lift ratio and riser diameter. The liquid phase mass transfer coefficient was obtained by applying the penetration theory (Treybal, 1980; Bird et al., 1960) to the overflow generated from the riser. Under reduced pressure, churn-turbulent flow, consisting of distorted bullet-shaped bubbles, was predominant in the flow regime. The increase of liquid circulation rate and flight time and the decrease of droplet size increased the refining rate. Because of the large droplet size, the refining rate of molten metals was smaller than that of water.
