Miscibility studies of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)–polystyrene and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)–poly(methyl methacrylate) in mixed common solvent (dimethyl formamide + cyclohexanone) have been carried out in different percentages of the blend components. The ultrasonic velocity, viscosity, density, and refractive index have been measured at 30°C. The interaction parameters have been obtained using the viscosity data to probe the miscibility. Photo-induced treatment of l-alanine single crystals grown by slow evaporation method at an ambient temperature was performed using a 25 ps Nd:YAG pulsed laser in the presence of an external acoustic filed. The changes of the absorption were studied for the wavelength 265 nm near the energy band gap edge at acoustical power density varying within 4–6 W/cm2. The observed absorption changes indicate that the external optical electric field strengths and acoustical power densities may be efficient parameters for the characterization of photo-optical and acousto-optical treatment of the samples. From the X-ray diffraction data we have optimized the atomic positions assuming that force on the atoms is around 1 mRy/au. These are used to calculate the electronic structure and the chemical bonding for the amino acid l-alanine single crystals. The calculated electronic band structure and densities of states confirms the experimental results that this compound possesses a relatively large energy band gap. The upper valence band has its maximum at the Z point of the Brillouin zone while the conduction band minimum is located at Γ point in the zone center, resulting in an indirect energy band gap. The electronic energy gap is equal to 4.19 eV within a framework of the used local density approximation and 4.54 eV with the Engel–Vosko generalized gradient approximation as the exchange correlation potential. This is in an agreement with our experimentally measured energy band gap ~4.67 eV. The existence of O-p character in the upper valence band has a significant consequence for the optical band gap. From our calculated electron charge density distribution, we obtain a space electron charge density distribution in the average unit cell of the crystal. The chemical bonding features of l-alanine amino acid were analyzed.  相似文献

A techno-economic analysis of submerged (SmF) and solid state fermentation (SSF) processes for Aspergillus carbonarius polygalacturonase production was performed to make an appropriate process selection. The downstream processing involved integrated membrane process (IMP) and alginate affinity precipitation (AAP). For a production scale of 30kL purified polygalacturonase concentrate per year, the total upstream cost of SmF was 14% lower than the SSF process. Downstream processing cost by IMP was 47% lower than AAP. The SmF-IMP process required a total capital investment that was 15-24% lower than the SmF-AAP and SSF-AAP processes. The corresponding unitary product cost was also lower by 24-36% in SmF-IMP process. Thus the SmF-IMP process proved to be very attractive from an economic point of view.  相似文献

Monolayer graphene as a saturable absorber in a mode-locked laser   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We demonstrate that the intrinsic properties of monolayer graphene allow it to act as a more effective saturable absorber for mode-locking fiber lasers when compared to multilayer graphene. The absorption of monolayer graphene can be saturated at lower excitation intensity compared to multilayer graphene, graphene with wrinkle-like defects, or functionalized graphene. Monolayer graphene has a remarkably large modulation depth of 65.9%, whereas the modulation depth of multilayer graphene is greatly reduced due to nonsaturable absorption and scattering loss. Picosecond ultrafast laser pulses (1.23 ps) can be generated using monolayer graphene as a saturable absorber. Due to the ultrafast relaxation time, larger modulation depth and lower scattering loss of monolayer graphene, it performs better than multilayer graphene in terms of pulse shaping ability, pulse stability, and output energy.   相似文献

The one- and two-photon excitation emission properties of water soluble glutathione monolayer protected gold clusters were investigated. Strong two-photon emission was observed from the gold clusters. The two-photon absorption cross section of these gold clusters in water was deduced from the z-scan measurement to be 189?740 GM, which is much higher compared to organic fluorescent dyes and quantum dots. These gold clusters also showed high photo-stability. The MTT assay showed that these gold clusters have low toxicity even at high concentrations. We have successfully demonstrated their applications for both one and two-photon excitation live cell imaging. The exceptional properties of these gold clusters make them a promising alternative for one- and two-photon bio-imaging and other nonlinear optical applications.  相似文献

In this letter, we suggest contention resolution with exponential increase and exponential decrease (EIED) backoff for bandwidth request in worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) networks. In EIED, setting of backoff factor to overcome collision due to contention is very challenging and hence we suggest a method to compute backoff factor with average contention window. Further, to reduce access delay, we estimate the response time based on probability of failure and average contention window. Simulations validate the proposed EIED backoff in terms of contention efficiency, capacity and access delay. The contention efficiency and capacity is improved by 47.50% (for q value of 0.25) and 28.57% (for 25 numbers of transmission opportunity), respectively, when bandwidth request is made with the proposed EIED backoff mechanism.  相似文献

Residual strain and texture variations were measured in two titanium matrix composites reinforced with silicon carbide fibers (Ti/SiC) of similar composition but fabricated by different processing routes. Each composite comprised a Ti-6242 α/β matrix alloy containing vol 35 pct continuous SiC fibers. In one, the matrix was produced by a plasma sprayed (PS) route, and in the other by a wiredrawn (WD) process. The PS and WD composites were reinforced with SCS-6 (SiC) and Trimarc (SiC) fibers, respectively. The texture in the titanium matrices differed significantly. The titanium matrix for the PS material exhibited random texture pre and post fabrication of the composite. For the WD material, the starting texture of the monolithic titanium matrix was ≈17 times random, but after consolidation into composite form, it was ≈6 times random. No significant differences were noted in the fiber-induced matrix residual strains between the composites prepared by the two procedures. However, the Trimarc (WD) fibers recorded higher (≈1.3 times) compressive strains than the SCS-6 (PS) fibers. Stresses and stress balance results are reported. Plane-specific elastic moduli, measured in load tests on the unreinforced matrices, showed little difference. Many models of various non-Newtonian fluid flows for different geometries are available for analyzing the mass and heat transfer. Nevertheless, for researchers, it is challenging to choose the most suitable model for a specific geometry. Here, we have adopted a modified Buongiorno model to explore the impact of activation energy on the Casson hybrid nanofluid flow over an upward/downward-moving rotating disk filled with the gyrotactic microorganisms. Moreover, the external magnetic field can establish the magnetic effect, which normalizes the features of heat, mass transfer, and fluid flow. Here, we used silver and copper as nanoparticles suspended in human blood as the carrier fluid. The modeled partial differential equations are converted to ordinary differential equations by opting suitable similarity variables. The numerical solutions of these reduced equations are attained by means of Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg fourth-fifth-order method by adopting a shooting scheme. An investigation of the attained outcomes reveals that the flow field is affected appreciably by the activation energy, bioconvection, and magnetic effect. Peclet and concentration difference numbers diminish the microorganism's profile. A rise in values of the Brownian motion parameter leads to an increase in the rate of heat transfer.  相似文献

Computational techniques and codes developed for the prediction of three-dimensional turbulent flows in internal configurations and rotor passages are described. Detailed calibration and validation of the flow fields in 90° curved ducts, cascades, end-wall flows and turbomachinery rotors are presented. Interpretation and comments on accuracy, level of agreement with various turbulence models and limitations of the codes are described. The single pass space-marching code is found to be efficient for curved duct and two-dimensional cascade flows. Multipass space-marching, time-marching and zonal methods are found to be accurate for complex situations. The efficiency and accuracy of a zonal technique, with considerable saving in computational time, is demonstrated.
