The structural order of kaolinite is an important factor that shows a substantial effect on the processes which take place during the thermal treatment of kaolin. The influence of structural order on the dehydroxylation process was investigated by simultaneous thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The thermal analysis was performed on the samples with gradually decreasing structural order prepared by milling procedure. The apparent activation energy of dehydroxylation process decreases with decreasing structural order according to the exponential function. The extrapolation of experimental data leads to the estimation of apparent activation energy of 76.6 kJ mol?1 and of frequency factor of 0.12 × 104 s?1 related to completely disordered form of kaolinite, while the ordered form shows the apparent activation energy of 216.17 kJ mol?1 and the frequency factor of 9.26 × 104 s?1. The relationships between features such as the infrared pattern of treated material, the degree of structural order and the apparent activation energy were established.  相似文献

Error estimation measures are useful for assessing uncertainty in surrogate predictions. We use a suite of test problems to appraise several error estimation measures for polynomial response surfaces and kriging. In addition, we study the performance of cross-validation error measures that can be used with any surrogate. We use 1,000 experimental designs to obtain the variability of error estimates with respect to the experimental designs for each problem. We find that the (actual) errors for polynomial response surfaces are less sensitive to the choice of experimental designs than the kriging errors. This is attributed to the variability in the maximum likelihood estimates of the kriging parameters. We find that no single error measure outperforms other measures on all the problems. Computationally expensive integrated local error measures (standard error for polynomials and mean square error for kriging) estimate the actual root mean square error very well. The distribution-free cross-validation error characterized the actual errors reasonably well. While the estimated root mean square error for polynomial response surface is a good estimate of the actual errors, the process variance for kriging is not. We explore a few methods of simultaneously using multiple error measures and demonstrate that the geometric means of several combinations of error measures improve the assessment of the actual errors over individual error measures.  相似文献

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been described as important mediators of cell communication, regulating several physiological processes, including tissue recovery and regeneration. In the kidneys, EVs derived from stem cells have been shown to support tissue recovery in diverse disease models and have been considered an interesting alternative to cell therapy. For this purpose, however, several challenges remain to be overcome, such as the requirement of a high number of EVs for human therapy and the need for optimization of techniques for their isolation and characterization. Moreover, the kidney’s complexity and the pathological process to be treated require that EVs present a heterogeneous group of molecules to be delivered. In this review, we discuss the recent advances in the use of EVs as a therapeutic tool for kidney diseases. Moreover, we give an overview of the new technologies applied to improve EVs’ efficacy, such as novel methods of EV production and isolation by means of bioreactors and microfluidics, bioengineering the EV content and the use of alternative cell sources, including kidney organoids, to support their transfer to clinical applications.  相似文献

A flow injection analysis method for the determination of glycine, based on the reaction with ortho-phtalaldehyde and N-acetylcysteine in a basic buffer, was optimised. In the first step screening of the variables, to select the most important ones, was performed using: (i) a half-fraction factorial design and (ii) a quarter-fraction factorial design, for five factors at two levels. The effects of the factors on the peak height were calculated from both screening designs and compared. For the half-fraction factorial design (resolution IV), the significance of the factor effects on the peak height was checked by: (i) comparing them with a critical effect, calculated from two-factor interactions and based on a t-test, (ii) using a non parametric approach and (iii) drawing a normal probability plot. For the quarter-fraction factorial design (resolution III) the significance of the effects of the factors on the peak height was checked using: (i) a randomization test method, (ii) the non parametric method and (iii) a normal probability plot. In the second step, the factor found to be of importance was optimised using the uniplex method.  相似文献

Following a recent investigation into chemi-ionization and chemiluminescence during gradual aeration of small, laminar methane flames, we proposed that partial oxidation products, or syngas constituents, formed in the pre-flame zone well below the luminous region, were responsible for the observed effects. We therefore map temperature, CO, and H2 for geometries and conditions relevant to burners in domestic boiler systems, to assess the potential hazard of CO release into the ambient atmosphere, should any partial quenching occur. CO concentrations peaks of 5.5 volume % are recorded in the core surrounding the axis. Appreciable CO concentrations are also found in the absence of added air. Experiments on various burner port geometries and temperatures suggest that this is not due to air entrainment at the flame base but to diffusion from zones closer to the flame. Next, quenching surfaces such as grids, perforated plates and flame trap matrices of different metals are progressively lowered into the flame. To avoid flow line distortion, suction aspirates the quenched products. The highest emission rate occurs with the quenching plane some 4 mm above the burner; further lowering of the quenching surface causes flame extinction. The maximum CO release is close to converting 10% of the CH4 feed, with some variation with quenching material. Expressing this potential release in terms of, e.g. boiler power, predicts a potentially serious hazard. Results of numerical simulations adequately parallel the experimental sampling profiles and provide insights into local concentrations, as well as the spatially resolved CO flux, which is calculated for a parabolic inlet flow profile. Integration across the stream implies, on the basis of the simulation, a possible tripling of the experimental CO release, were quenching simply to release the local gas composition into the atmosphere. Comparison with experiment suggests some chemical interaction with the quenching surface.  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze the first known provably secure Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) authentication schemes that are designed to provide forward untraceability and backward untraceability: the L-K and S-M schemes. We show how to trace tags in the L-K scheme without needing to corrupt tags. We also show that if a standard cryptographic pseudorandom bit generator (PRBG) is used in the S-M scheme, then the scheme may fail to provide forward untraceability and backward untraceability. To achieve the desired untraceability features, we show that the S-M scheme can use a robust PRBG which provides forward security and backward security. We also note that the backward security is stronger than necessary for the backward untraceability of the S-M scheme.  相似文献

This article presents two new methods for adaptive refinement of a B‐spline finite element solution within an integrated mechanically based computer aided engineering system. The proposed techniques for adaptively refining a B‐spline finite element solution are a local variant of np‐refinement and a local variant of h‐refinement. The key component in the np‐refinement is the linear co‐ordinate transformation introduced into the refined element. The transformation is constructed in such a way that the transformed nodal configuration of the refined element is identical to the nodal configuration of the neighbour elements. Therefore, the assembly proceeds as with classic finite elements, while the solution approximation conforms exactly along the inter‐element boundaries. For the h‐refinement, this transformation is introduced into a construction that merges the super element from the finite element world with the hierarchical B‐spline representation from the computational geometry. In the scope of developing sculptured surfaces, the proposed approach supports C0 as well as the Hermite B‐spline C1 continuous shapes. For sculptured solids, C0 continuity only is considered in this article. The feasibility of the proposed methods in the scope of the geometric design is demonstrated by several examples of creating sculptured surfaces and volumetric solids. PURPOSE: To evaluate the feasibility of high-dose chemotherapy (HDC) with autologous hematopoietic progenitor-cell support (AHPCS) as part of combined modality therapy (CMT) in patients with inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). PATIENTS AND METHODS: From April 1993 to March 1997, 30 patients with IBC were treated at our program. Twenty-three patients received neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) before HDC; 18 patients also received adjuvant chemotherapy following surgery, but before HDC. All patients received HDC with high-dose cyclophosphamide, cisplatin, and carmustine (BCNU) with AHPCS. Every patient underwent surgery either before (27 patients) or after (three patients) HDC. Patients received radiotherapy after HDC in addition to tamoxifen if their tumors were estrogen receptor-positive. RESULTS: Thirteen patients experienced grade 3 or 4 nonhematologic noninfectious toxicities. In 12 patients (40%), this represented drug-induced lung injury, which in all cases responded to a 10-week course of corticosteroids. The only treatment-related death was secondary to hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS). Another patient suffered grade 4 CNS toxicity, which was completely reversible. All patients engrafted promptly. Eight patients relapsed, five of whom had a poor pathologic response to NAC. Relapses were local (five patients), local plus systemic (one), or systemic only (two). Median follow-up time from diagnosis and HDC is 23.5 (range, 7 to 49) and 19 (range, 4 to 44) months, respectively. Twenty-one patients (70%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 51% to 86%) remain alive and free of disease 4 to 44 months after HDC. Median disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival have not yet been reached. CONCLUSION: HDC as part of CMT is feasible in patients with IBC. The toxicity of this treatment program is significant, but tolerable. Despite the short follow-up duration, the promising DFS observed in this group of patients warrants randomized studies that include a HDC-containing arm in patients with IBC.  相似文献

Templated nucleic acid detection is an emerging bioanalytical method that makes use of the target DNA or RNA strand to initiate a fluorogenic reaction. The Staudinger reduction holds particular promise for templated sensing of nucleic acids because the involved functional groups are highly chemoselective. Here, the azidomethoxy group, which can be removed under Staudinger conditions, is used to cage 7‐hydroxycoumarin fluorophores. Reduction by phosphines and subsequent loss of the azidomethoxy substituent induce a significant bathochromic shift of the major absorbance band in the near UV region. When excited at the appropriate wavelength, this change in the absorbance spectrum translates into a substantial fluorescence turn‐on signal. The described profluorophores are readily conjugated to amino‐modified DNAs and are rapidly uncaged by a triphenylphosphine–DNA probe under the control of a DNA template. In addition, turnover of the probes on the target strand occurs and yields substantial signal amplification.  相似文献

Gene transfer is an exciting new tool in medical therapy and scientific investigation, but only very recently has it begun to be developed in the auditory system. This paper describes in vivo and ex vivo experiments using an adenoviral vector (Ad. RSVntlacZ), which is a replication-deficient virus based on a human adenoviral (serotype 5) genomic backbone. The in vivo experiments demonstrate successful gene transfer into multiple types of cochlear cells. We observed a relatively efficient transduction, several weeks of sustained transgene expression and an absence of major lethal cytotoxicity in spiral ganglion and epithelial cells of the cochlea in adult animals. The ex vivo experiments were performed using fibroblasts transduced in vitro with Ad. RSVntlacZ. Two weeks after inoculation of the fibroblasts into the perilymph, we observed transplanted fibroblasts, which were adherent to the lining of the perilymphatic spaces, and were expressing the lacZ transgene. We speculate that, as the genetic basis of degenerative cochlear diseases is characterized on a mutational level, transgene expression will allow us to test hypotheses regarding the effects of specific genes on cochlear cell biology. Gene transfer will not only increase our understanding of the pathophysiology of hearing loss, but also may provide gene therapy for disease.  相似文献
