An ultrasonic technique was developed to study the crystallization process of edible fats on-line. A chirp wave was used instead of the conventional pulser signal, thus achieving a higher signal-to-noise ratio. This enabled measurements to be made in concentrated systems [≈20% solid fat content (SFC)] through a 8.11-cm thick sample without significant signal loss. Fat samples were crystallized at 20, 25, and 30°C at a constant agitation rate of 400 rpm for 90 min. The crystallization process was followed by ultrasonic spectroscopy and a low-resolution pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer. Specific relationships were found between ultrasonic parameters [integrated response, time of flight (TF), and full width half maximum] and SFC. TF, which is an indirect measurement of the ultrasonic velocity (v), was highly correlated to SFC (r 2>0.9) in a linear fashion (v=2.601 SFC+1433.0).  相似文献

The volume of tailings produced by the extractive industry has been increasing due to the processing of the low‐grade ore. This issue can cause environmental accidents and require significant investment to control the disposal of tailings. Therefore, this study aims to recover iron from zinc mine tailings by wet magnetic separation followed by the carbothermal reduction of self‐reducing briquettes. Two magnetic separation routes were investigated to concentrate iron. Zinc mine tailings were processed by route I, in a rougher stage followed by a scavenger stage; and route II, in a rougher stage followed by a cleaner stage. The carbothermal reductions were performed using self‐reducing briquettes composed of Fe concentrate from the route with high Fe content and charcoal. The products were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM‐EDS), x‐ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP‐OES), and volumetric chemical analysis. Magnetic separation route II provided the highest‐grade Fe concentrate, 52% Fe, while route I provided 33% Fe. In the carbothermal reductions, a metallization degree of 98% in the Fe concentrate briquette, 97% in the briquette with a 10% replacement of its raw material by Fe concentrate, and 99% in the hematite briquette was reached. The replacement of raw material by Fe concentrate showed no significant change in Fe recovery. Considering the whole process, magnetic separation and carbothermal reduction, the recovery of Fe from the zinc mine tailings was 67%. Therefore, the process route suggested in this study will not only reduce tailings disposal and consequently the risk of environmental accidents, but it will also provide profitable raw material for the steel industry.  相似文献

This work deals with the rheological, morphological, and thermal properties of composites having poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polyamide-6 (PA6), and their blends as matrices, and rice husk ash (RHA) as a filler. The study determines the effect of composition on the change in viscosity and rate of degradation during processing in a torque rheometer. Our data indicates that thermal stability and degradation during processing depend on matrix composition and filler concentration. SEM micrographs show both partial adhesion of the filler to the matrices and filler pullout. Optical microscopy shows particle agglomeration and that agglomerate size increased with filler content. FTIR investigates the shifting of absorption bands of PET/PA6 composite after the addition of RHA and attributes the selective dispersion of RHA to the formation of hydrogen bonds. Our data supports the idea that filler employed here is an option to develop polymer composites with improved properties.  相似文献

Summary The cleavage of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) with periodic acid (H5IO6) and simultaneous injection of ultrasonic radiation has been performed. Two frequencies, 25 and 40 kHz, respectively, have been used. The results demonstrate clearly that 40 kHz ultrasound radiation accelerates significantly the cleavage reaction. Given the continuous growth of social bookmarking sites, we investigated the reasons behind their sustainability as online social structures. Bookmarking sites offer users the option to post and tag web resources privately or to make them publicly available to other users of the sites. A prevalence of private tagging would threaten the sustainability of the social aspects at these sites. Using activity data from a sample of 1,000 users of Simpy, a popular social bookmarking site, we found that the majority of users contribute most of their tagged resources to the public repository, despite the option to keep them private. We also found that in social bookmarking sites there is a minority of extremely prolific contributors who are responsible for a large portion of public tagged resources. Finally, we found that new users make larger proportions of their contributions public than existing users and that there is a larger number of regular contributors to the site than irregular ones. All of these findings are consistent with the mechanisms predicted by a theoretical model of sustainable online social structures.  相似文献

According to active learning, students should be responsible for their own learning. Automatic free-text scoring allows teachers to provide open-ended questions with their correct answers to a computer system, so when students answer the questions, they get immediate feedback (a score, a comment, or both). However, teachers are usually overloaded with many tasks, and they may not have time to create the questions with the correct answers. Therefore, in the 2012/2013 academic year, we asked a group of 124 Pre-Primary and Primary Education students to become the creators of the questions and their correct answers in groups in a free-text scoring system, so the questions use learners’ language, not teachers’ language. From them, 41 students (group of involved students, GIS) fulfilled all the requirements during the course. Our hypothesis was that GIS would be able to increase their academic performance and levels of engagement compared to the rest of the students. The results gathered provide statistic evidence to support that hypothesis. This study pretends to help teachers who want to increase the academic performance and levels of engagement of their students in courses that they may find boring and unrelated to the main topic of their degree, or not directly related with their main academic interests.  相似文献

Designing software involves good perception, good reasoning, and a talent to express oneself effectively through programming and interactive languages. Semiotic theories can help HCI designers increase their power to perceive, reason and communicate. By presenting some of the results we have reached with semiotic engineering over the last few years, we suggest that the main contributions of semiotic theory in supporting HCI design are: to provide designers with new perceptions on the process and product of HCI design; to bind together all the stages of software development and use, giving them a unique homogeneous treatment; and to pose innovative questions that extend the frontiers of HCI investigations.  相似文献
