Coating gold nanorods (GNRs) with polyelectrolytes is an effective approach to make them biocompatible for potential use in photothermal treatment (PTT) of cancer. The authors report the effect of coating of the GNRs with polystyrene sulphonate (PSS‐GNRs) and PSS plus poly di‐allyl di‐methyl ammonium chloride (PDDAC‐GNRs) on its photothermal conversion efficiency (PTE), cellular uptake and subsequently the photothermal induced cytotoxicity in human oral cancer cells (NT8e). Coating of GNRs with PSS led to decrease in PTE by ∼30% and further coating it with PDDAC led to its increase to similar level, with respect to as‐ prepared GNRs. The cellular uptake of PDDAC‐GNRs in cancer cells was double than that for PSS‐GNRs. PTT of cancer cells after treatment with 60 pM of either PDDAC‐GNRs or PSS‐GNRs resulted in cytotoxicty of ∼90%. At higher concentration of 120 pM, while PSS‐GNRs showed no further change, for PDDAC‐GNR the photothermal induced cytotoxicity decreased to ∼50%. The broadening of longitudinal surface plasmon peak of PDDAC‐GNRs and appearance of dark clusters in cells under bright‐field microscope suggested intracellular clustering of PDDAC‐GNRs. The present study reports a novel, facile, biosynthesis route for the synthesis of carbon nanodots (CDs) with an approximate quantum yield of 38.5%, using Musk melon extract as a naturally derived‐precursor material. The synthesis of CDs was established by using ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy, Dynamic light scattering, photoluminescence spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The as‐prepared CDs possess an eminent fluorescence under UV–light (λ ex  = 365 nm). The size range of CDs was found to be in the range of 5–10 nm. The authors further explored the use of such biosynthesised CDs as a photocatalyst material for removal of industrial dye. Degradation of methylene blue dye was performed in a photocatalytic reactor and monitored using UV–vis spectroscopy. The CDs show excellent dye degradation capability of 37.08% in 60 min and reaction rate of 0.0032 min−1. To confer the robustness and high quality of service, modern computing architectures running real-time applications should provide high system performance and high timing predictability. Cache memory is used to improve performance by bridging the speed gap between the main memory and CPU. However, the cache introduces timing unpredictability creating serious challenges for real-time applications. Herein, we introduce a miss table (MT) based cache locking scheme at level-2 (L2) cache to further improve the timing predictability and system performance/power ratio. The MT holds information of block addresses related to the application being processed which cause most cache misses if not locked. Information in MT is used for efficient selection of the blocks to be locked and victim blocks to be replaced. This MT based approach improves timing predictability by locking important blocks with the highest number of misses inside the cache for the entire execution time. In addition, this technique decreases the average delay per task and total power consumption by reducing cache misses and avoiding unnecessary data transfers. This MT based solution is effective for both uniprocessors and multicores. We evaluate the proposed MT-based cache locking scheme by simulating an 8-core processor with 2 levels of caches using MPEG4 decoding, H.264/AVC decoding, FFT, and MI workloads. Experimental results show that in addition to improving the predictability, a reduction of 21% in mean delay per task and a reduction of 18% in total power consumption are achieved for MPEG4 (and H.264/AVC) by using MT and locking 25% of the L2. The MT results in about 5% delay and power reductions on these video applications, possibly more on applications with worse cache behavior. For the FFT and MI (and other) applications whose code fits inside the level-1 instruction (I1) cache, the mean delay per task increases only by 3% and total power consumption increases by 2% due to the addition of the MT.  相似文献

In this paper, an algorithm to solve the profit based unit commitment problem (PBUCP) under deregulated environment has been proposed using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) intelligent technique to maximize the GENCOs profit. Deregulation in power sector increases the efficiency of electricity production and distribution, offer lower prices, higher quality, a secure and a more reliable product. The proposed algorithm has been developed from the view point of a generation company wishing to maximize its profit in the deregulated power and reserve markets. UC schedule depends on the market price in the deregulated market. In deregulated environment utilities are not required to meet the demand. GENCO can consider a schedule that produce less than the predicted load demand and reserve but creates maximum profit. More number of units are committed when the market price is higher. When more number of generating units are brought online more power is generated and participated in the deregulated market to get maximum profit. This paper presents a new approach of GENCOs profit based unit commitment using PSO technique in a day ahead competitive electricity markets. The profit based unit commitment problem is solved using various PSO techniques such as Chaotic PSO (CPSO), New PSO (NPSO) and Dispersed PSO (DPSO) and the results are compared. Generation, spinning reserve, non-spinning reserve, and system constraints are considered in proposed formulation. The proposed approach has been tested on IEEE-30 bus system with 6 generating units as an individual GENCO. The results obtained are quite encouraging and useful in deregulated market. A new kind of molecularly imprinted polymer-modified graphite electrode was fabricated by “grafting-to” approach, incorporating sol–gel technique, for the detection of acute deficiency in serum ascorbic acid level (SAAL), manifesting hypovitaminosis C. The modified electrode exhibited ascorbic acid (AA) oxidation at less positive potential (0.0 V) than the earlier reported methods, resulting in a limit of detection as low as 6.13 ng mL−1 (RSD = 1.2%, S/N = 3). The diffusion coefficient (1.096 × 10−5 cm2 s−1), rate constant (7.308 s−1), and Gibb's free energy change (−12.59 kJ mol−1) due to analyte adsorption, were also calculated to explore the kinetics of AA oxidation. The proposed sensor was found to enhance sensitivity substantially so as to detect ultra trace level of AA in the presence of other biologically important compounds (dopamine, uric acid, etc.), without any cross interference and matrix complications from biological fluids and pharmaceutical samples.  相似文献

Determination of the thermo-mechanical structure of the crust for seismically active regions using available geophysical and geological data is of great importance. The most important feature of the intraplate earthquakes in the Indian region are that the seismicity occurs within the entire crust. In Latur region of India an earthquake occurred in the upper crust. In such situations, quantifying the uncertainties in seismogenic depths becomes very important. The stochastic heat conduction equation has been solved for different sets of boundary conditions, an exponentially decreasing radiogenic heat generation and randomness in thermal conductivity. Closed form analytical expressions for mean and variance in the temperature depth distribution have been used and an automatic formulation has been developed in Matlab for computing and plotting the thermal structure. The Matlab toolbox presented allows us to display the controlling thermal parameters on the screen directly, and plot the subsurface thermal structure along with its error bounds. The software can be used to quantify the thermal structure for any given region and is applied here to the Latur earthquake region of India.  相似文献

A novel sensitivity compensating nonlinear control (SCNC) approach is proposed within generic model control (GMC) framework for processes exhibiting input sensitivity. The proposed approach consists of defining a new process, control law and set point such that the determined control action drives the original process to its desired set point. External reset feedback (ERF), used to compensate for input saturation, is extended to higher relative degree systems as extended ERF (EERF), and is incorporated in the context of SCNC approach. The proposed control algorithms are evaluated by application to an open-loop unstable CSTR control problem and a multi-product semi-batch polymerization reactor temperature control problem. The present study illustrates the versatility of the proposed SCGMC schemes compared to the basic GMC schemes in terms of output tracking and smoother input profiles. SCNC can be extended to other nonlinear model based controllers where the control law can be expressed analytically.  相似文献

Adsorption cryocoolers are among the possible options for obtaining cryogenic temperatures, in particular for small cooling capacity applications such as cooling of infra red detectors. They need to be optimized for liquid yield. The performance of thermal compressors therein pivots around the adsorption characteristics of the adsorbent + adsorbate combination and how effectively one could pack requisite amounts of adsorbent into a given volume of the compressor housing. In addition, the overall performance of the cooler is a function of limits of operating temperatures and pressures across the compressor. This paper proposes a performance indicator—the product of liquid yield and the uptake efficiency of the compressor—and evaluates its values for various possible operating conditions for one specimen of activated carbon. It is shown that there is a limited domain of operation and that there is a condition of best performance within that domain.  相似文献

Impurities in industrial synthetic diamond powder samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (FAAS). Specimen for FAAS is required in solution form. Diamonds are chemically inert to most acids and alkalies. Carbon was removed as CO2 on heating and estimated gravimetrically. The remaining residue was fused with di-lithium tetraborate and dissolved in nitric acid. Impurities such as Si, Al, Fe, Ca, Mg, W, Na, Co and Ni were then determined by FAAS. Crystalline phases of major impurities were identified by XRD.  相似文献
