We demonstrate that in a sensor based on a multichannel Young interferometer, the phase information obtained for different pairs of channels can be used to correct the long-term instability (drift) due to temperature differences between measuring and reference channels, the drift in the alignment of the setup, etc. Experiments show that the nature of a major part of the drift is such that the drift present in one of the channels can be determined by interpolation of the drift measured in the two adjacent channels. It is shown that a drift reduction of 10 times can be achieved as compared with the situation in which no correction is applied. We anticipate that these findings will permit the exploitation of the extreme sensitivity of interference-based sensors to a much greater extent.  相似文献

Alteration zones of archeological glasses often show intriguing lamellar patterns in backscattered electron images. Here, we report results of static glass corrosion experiments with two different silicate glasses that revealed laminar porosity and subordinately chemical patterns inside silica-based corrosion zones that resemble those seen in naturally altered, ancient glasses. Aside from common laminar patterns, more complex patterns were observed in corrosion zones that developed along a fracture network. The formation of such patterns cannot be explained by any of the existing glass corrosion models. We suggest that silica-based corrosion zones form by a process that involves the congruent dissolution of the glass network, which is spatially and temporally coupled to the deposition of amorphous silica at an inwardly moving reaction interface. The patterns likely form in response to fluctuations of the pH and salinity in the interfacial solution, which govern the silica solubility, deposition, and dissolution rate, and thus, its microstructure and porosity, and, in turn, are controlled by the dissolution rate of the glass and the transport properties of the silica reaction layers. However, the exact feedback mechanism producing pH fluctuations in the interfacial solution has not yet been identified and is an open question for future research.  相似文献

In a previous study the biodegradation of hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) was reported to occur under realistic environmental concentrations in soils and freshwater aquatic sediments with biotransformation half-lives ranging from approximately 2 days to 2 months. In this study we extend our knowledge as to the environmental behavior of HBCD with respect to the fate of the three major diastereomers of HBCD (alpha, beta, and gamma) as well as to the identification of major intermediate metabolites formed during degradation. Substantial biological transformation of the alpha-, beta-, and gamma-[14C]HBCD diastereomers was observed in wastewater (i.e., digester) sludge and in freshwater aquatic sediment microcosms prepared under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Concomitant with the loss of [14C]HBCD in these matrixes there was a concurrent production of three [14C]products. Using a combination of high performance liquid chromatography atmospheric pressure photoionization mass spectrometry and gas chromatography electron impact ionization mass spectrometry these metabolites were identified as tetrabromocyclododecene, dibromocyclododecadiene, and cyclododecatriene. We propose that HBCD is sequentially debrominated via dihaloelimination where at each step there is the loss of two bromines from vicinal carbons with the subsequent formation of a double bond between the adjacent carbon atoms. These results demonstrate that microorganisms naturally occurring in aquatic sediments and anaerobic digester sludge mediate complete debromination of HBCD.  相似文献

The availability of fossil fuels is a major factor that determines the economy of a country. However, possible exhaustion of fossil fuel deposits as well as increased pollution, and other adverse effects on the environment has prompted us to search for alternative fuels. This resulted in the development of hythane, a blend of hydrogen with methane, at concentrations of 10%–30%. The breakdown of organic substrates using sequential dark fermentation (DF) and anaerobic digestion (AD) leads to biohythane production. The quality and quantity of biohythane can be improved by altering the following aspects: selection, development, and/or genetic engineering of suitable microbial consortium; the use of cheap, appropriate substrates; improved design of bioreactors; and the implementation of two-stage fermentation system. This review focusses on the mechanism of biohythane production and the different aspects involved in increasing both its production rate and quality. A comparative study has also been done to demonstrate the superiority of biohythane over other biofuels.  相似文献

Upon occurrence of an internal fault on the PMSM (permanent magnet synchronous machine), the topology of the stator is amended causing structural imbalances due to the change of the connection within the windings. In this work, a state model of internal faults of the PMSM is developed. This model is in the (abc) reference frame. The modeling approach is based on the assumption that each stator phase is replaced by two major and minor sub-windings. This model is used subsequently in the residual generation for diagnosis. The fault indicators are obtained by the projection in parity space and estimated using the Luenberger observer. A scenario of fault inter-turn by the short-circuit occurring between phase (a and b) is validated by simulation.  相似文献

The principal goal of this research is developing physics-based, reduced-order, analytical models of nonlinear fluid-structure interactions associated with offshore structures. Our primary focus is to generalize the Hamilton's variational framework so that systems of flow-oscillator equations can be derived from first principles. This is an extension of earlier work that led to a single energy equation describing the fluid-structure interaction. It is demonstrated here that flow-oscillator models are a subclass of the general, physical-based framework. A flow-oscillator model is a reduced-order mechanical model, generally comprising two mechanical oscillators, one modelling the structural oscillation and the other a nonlinear oscillator representing the fluid behaviour coupled to the structural motion.Reduced-order analytical model development continues to be carried out using a Hamilton's principle-based variational approach. This provides flexibility in the long run for generalizing the modelling paradigm to complex, three-dimensional problems with multiple degrees of freedom, although such extension is very difficult. As both experimental and analytical capabilities advance, the critical research path to developing and implementing fluid-structure interaction models entails-formulating generalized equations of motion, as a superset of the flow-oscillator models; and-developing experimentally derived, semi-analytical functions to describe key terms in the governing equations of motion.The developed variational approach yields a system of governing equations. This will allow modelling of multiple d.f. systems. The extensions derived generalize the Hamilton's variational formulation for such problems. The Navier-Stokes equations are derived and coupled to the structural oscillator. This general model has been shown to be a superset of the flow-oscillator model. Based on different assumptions, one can derive a variety of flow-oscillator models.  相似文献

The drugs based on platinum metals represent one of the oldest, but also one of the most effective groups of chemotherapeutic agents. Thanks to many clinical studies it is known that resistance of tumor cells to drugs is a frequent cause of chemotherapy failure. With regard to platinum based drugs, multidrug resistance can also be connected with increased expression of low-molecular weight protein metallothionein (MT). This study aimed at investigating the interactions of MT with cisplatin or carboplatin, using the adsorptive transfer technique coupled with differential pulse voltammetry Brdicka reaction (AdTS DPV Brdicka reaction), and a comparison of in vitro results with results obtained in vivo. The results obtained from the in vitro study show a strong affinity between platinum based drugs and MT. Further, we analyzed extracts of neuroblastoma cell lines treated with cisplatin or carboplatin. It is clear that neuroblastoma UKF-NB-4 cisplatin-resistant and cisplatin-sensitive cell lines unlikely respond to the presence of the platinum-based cytostatics cisplatin and carboplatin. Finally, we determined the level of MT in samples from rabbits treated with carboplatin and patients with retinoblastoma treated with the same drug.  相似文献
