We briefly review the coherent quantum beats observed in recent two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy experiments in a photosynthetic-light-harvesting antenna. We emphasize that the decay of the quantum beats in these experiments is limited by ensemble averaging. The in vivo dynamics of energy transport depends upon the local fluctuations of a single photosynthetic complex during the energy transfer time (a few picoseconds). Recent analyses suggest that it remains possible that the quantum-coherent motion may be robust under individual realizations of the environment-induced fluctuations contrary to intuition obtained from condensed phase spectroscopic measurements and reduced density matrices. This result indicates that the decay of the observed quantum coherence can be understood as ensemble dephasing. We propose a fluorescence-detected single-molecule experiment with phase-locked excitation pulses to investigate the coherent dynamics at the level of a single molecule without hindrance by ensemble averaging. We discuss the advantages and limitations of this method. We report our initial results on bulk fluorescence-detected coherent spectroscopy of the Fenna-Mathews-Olson complex.  相似文献

This study investigated the probiotic characteristics of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from 14 Malaysian fermented food or milk products. In total, 22.3% (121 of 542) of the LAB isolated from the local fermented products exhibited antibacterial activity against Micrococcus luteus. Twelve LAB that demonstrated better antibacterial activity against M. luteus as compared to a commercial strain Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota (LABPC) were selected for further characterisation. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence, the LAB were identified as pediococci (seven) and lactobacilli (five). All 12 LAB showed bile tolerance, but only eight were acid tolerant at pH ≥ 3.0. The highest level of adhesion to HT‐29 cells was observed among the Lactobacillus sp. LAB 1 and 10. The LAB also showed antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus through the production of organic acids. LAB isolated from Malaysian fermented food and milk products, especially fermented tapioca, contains potential probiotic candidates.  相似文献

Nanotechnology is one of the advance technologies that almost found implications in every field of science. The importance is due to the unique properties of nanoparticles. In this study, bimetallic alloys of copper (Cu) and gold (Au) were tested in submerge root cultures of Stevia rebaudiana for production of biomass and secondary metabolites. A known amount of inoculum roots were submerged in liquid Murashige and Skoog medium containing combination of naphthalene acetic acid (NAA; 0.5 mg l−1) and different ratios of nanoparticles (NPs). NAA augmented medium was used as control. The addition of nanoparticles (30 µg l−1) stimulated biomass accumulation (1.447 g/flask) on 27th day of log phases. The maximum total phenolics content (TPC; 16.17 mg/g‐DW) and total flavonoids content (TFC; 4.20 mg/g‐DW) were displayed using AuCu‐NPs (1:3) and NAA. The same combinations enhanced total phenolic production (TPP; 116 mg/L) and total flavonoid production (TFP; 29.5 mg/L) in submerged cultures. A strong correlation was observed between phenolics, flavonoids and dry biomass. Moreover, maximum 1, 1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) activity of 79% was displayed by addition of AuCu (1:3) nanoparticles. We propose knowledge based versions of a relatively new family of SVM algorithms based on two non-parallel hyperplanes. Specifically, we consider prior knowledge in the form of multiple polyhedral sets and incorporate the same into the formulation of linear Twin SVM (TWSVM)/Least Squares Twin SVM (LSTWSVM) and term them as knowledge based TWSVM (KBTWSVM)/knowledge based LSTWSVM (KBLSTWSVM). Both of these formulations are capable of generating non-parallel hyperplanes based on real-world data and prior knowledge. We derive the solution of KBLSTWSVM and use it in our computational experiments for comparison against other linear knowledge based SVM formulations. Our experiments show that KBLSTWSVM is a versatile classifier whose solution is extremely simple when compared with other linear knowledge based SVM algorithms.  相似文献

Autonomic systems promise to inject self-managing capabilities in software systems. The major objectives of autonomic computing are to minimize human intervention and to enable a seamless self-adaptive behavior in the software systems. To achieve self-managing behavior, various methods have been exploited in past. Case-based reasoning (CBR) is a problem solving paradigm of artificial intelligence which exploits past experience, stored in the form of problem–solution pairs. We have applied CBR based modeling approach to achieve autonomicity in software systems. The proposed algorithms have been described and CBR implementation on externalization and internalization architectures of autonomic systems using two case studies RUBiS and Autonomic Forest Fire Application (AFFA) have been shown. The study highlights the effect of 10 different similarity measures, the role of adaptation and the effect of changing nearest neighborhood cardinality for a CBR solution cycle in autonomic managers. The results presented in this paper show that the proposed CBR based autonomic model exhibits 90–98% accuracy in diagnosing the problem and planning the solution.  相似文献

We investigated different combinations of polymers (5% each) (i) starch, gelatin (polymer coating; PC-1), (ii) polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), gum Arabica (PC-2), (iii) PVA, gelatin (PC-3), (iv) starch, gum Arabica (PC-4), (v) gelatin, gum Arabica (PC-5), (vi) starch, PVA (PC-6), for coating NPK (17, 17:17) in a fluidized bed granulator. Morphological characterization indicated a uniform coating of all formulations on NPK granules. A slow release of N (PC-3), P (PC-6), and K (PC-3) was observed in water. In soil, high mineral N (63%), plant-available P (72%), and K (24%) were observed in PC-3, PC-5, and PC-6, respectively than uncoated fertilizer. Microbial biomass NPK was also higher in these treatment. This resulted in higher maize yield (66%), N (114%), P (164%), and K (137%) uptakes and apparent N (267%), P (196%), and K (358%) recoveries from applied fertilizer in these treatments. Among these, PC-3 resulted in an increase of 115% shoot N, 169% P and 138% K uptakes and 268% apparent N, 206% P and 361% K recoveries than uncoated fertilizer. Hence, coating of NPK with this biodegradable polymer combination controlled N, P, and K release and synchronized these nutrients availabilities with maize nutrients demand therefore resulted in higher maize crop yield and nutrient utilization efficiencies.  相似文献

In this study, electroactive polar phase transformation and crystallinity of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)‐based composites, such as PVDF/CaCO3/nanoclay, is explored as a function of micro‐CaCO3 fraction and draw ratio (R) of uniaxial stretching. Composites including PVDF/clay, PVDF/CaCO3 and most importantly PVDF/CaCO3/clay with varying fraction of micro‐CaCO3 were extruded into homogenous and flexible cast films. Characterization via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) confirmed the presence of β phase in all the composites incorporated with micro‐CaCO3 and nanoclay either individually (i.e., PVDF/CaCO3 and PVDF/clay films, respectively) or together (i.e., PVDF/CaCO3/nanoclay composites). Interestingly, a gradual but significant improvement in this electroactive phase (β phase) was obtained with successive increment in CaCO3 content into a fixed composition of PVDF and nanoclay (PVDF/CaCO3/clay composites). Further increment in β phase content was obtained via uniaxial stretching to different draw ratios and at a temperature of 90 °C, where for PVDF/CaCO3/clay (especially, 100–35‐3 and 100–40‐3) samples almost no α phase was observed irrespective of R. Conversely, the crystallinity of melt extruded samples decreased gradually all the way with CaCO3 concentration in PVDF/CaCO3/clay composites compared to the neat PVDF while increased gradually with increasing draw ratio. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The use of the Hawkins model, under isothermal condition, to calculate the bias dependent high frequency noise in Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors (HBTs) is questioned. The inclusion of thermal effects into the noise model of HBTs is necessary as the temperature of the device becomes progressively different from the ambient temperature with increasing bias current. Calculation of noise figure by including the thermal effects explains the experimental measurement whereas the isothermal calculation underestimates the noise figure at high bias current  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a novel approach, termed as regularized least squares fuzzy support vector regression, to handle financial time series forecasting. Two key problems in financial time series forecasting are noise and non-stationarity. Here, we assign a higher membership value to data samples that contain more relevant information, where relevance is related to recency in time. The approach requires only a single matrix inversion. For the linear case, the matrix order depends only on the dimension in which the data samples lie, and is independent of the number of samples. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated on financial datasets available in the public domain.  相似文献

The thermal behavior of abrupt heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) has been studied by coupling the thermionic-field-emission injection mechanism at the emitter-base heterojunction with the thermal-electric feedback phenomenon. The exact quantum mechanical injection mechanism rather than the semiclassical WKB approximation is used in the present calculation to self-consistently calculate the thermionic and tunneling components of current. Moreover, the total current and temperature are self-consistently evaluated by testing the convergence on both current and temperature. The calculation shows correctly that the degree of the partitioning between the thermionic and tunneling components are bias- as well as temperature-dependent. It is shown that even a single emitter finger can have a highly nonuniform temperature and current distribution across it, leading to the current collapse phenomenon. At high power levels, this may give rise to a current collapse phenomenon similar to that observed for the multifinger HBTs.  相似文献
