A U.S./Russian collaboration of accelerator scientists was directed to the development of high averaged-current (~1?mA) and high-quality (emittance ~15?πmm?mrad; energy spread ~0.1%) 1.75 MeV proton beams to produce active interrogation beams that could be applied to counterterrorism. Several accelerator technologies were investigated. These included an electrostatic tandem accelerator of novel design, a compact cyclotron, and a storage ring with energy compensation and electron cooling. Production targets capable of withstanding the beam power levels were designed, fabricated, and tested. The cyclotron/storage-ring system was theoretically studied and computationally designed, and the electrostatic vacuum tandem accelerator at BINP was demonstrated for its potential in active interrogation of explosives and special nuclear materials.  相似文献

A complete production technology is developed for single-cell and array IR detectors using an MBE-grown Hg1 – x Cd x Te heteroepitaxial layer. The array detectors implement a bump-bonded flip-chip hybrid architecture. The arrays are constructed in photodiodes and have a size of 128 × 128 or 4 × 288. The single-cell detectors are built around a photoconductivity cell. The detectors are operated in the wavelength range 3–5 or 8–12 m and at 78–80 or 200–220 K. In a preceding paper we presented a novel approach to computationof 3-D folds of protein chains from their amino acid sequences.This approach is a physically correct generalization of the‘threading’ methods. It is based on a self-consistentmolecular field theory and on a physical theory of protein foldingpatterns, which make it possible to examine all the varietyof ‘potentially stable’ folding patterns and allthe variety of the chain conformations within each of them andto determine the thermodynamically stable structure. In thispaper, we apply this approach to single out stable folding patternsand conformations for the chains of ß-sandwich proteinsand show that the similarity of the calculated and observedstructures is usually rather close.  相似文献
