We develop and validate a medium-term solar irradiance forecasting model by adopting predicted meteorological variables from the US National Weather Service’s (NWS) forecasting database as inputs to an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model. Since the inputs involved are the same as the ones available from a recently validated forecasting model, we include mean bias error (MBE), root mean square error (RMSE), and correlation coefficient (R2) comparisons between the more established forecasting model and the proposed ones. An important component of our study is the development of a set of criteria for selecting relevant inputs. The input variables are selected using a version of the Gamma test combined with a genetic algorithm. The solar geotemporal variables are found to be critically important, while the most relevant meteorological variables include sky cover, probability of precipitation, and maximum and minimum temperatures. Using the relevant input sets identified by the Gamma test, the developed forecasting models improve RMSEs for GHI by 10-15% over the reference model. Prediction intervals based on regression of the squared residuals on the input variables are also derived.  相似文献

Solar Parabolic Trough Collectors (PTCs) are currently used for the production of electricity and applications with relatively higher temperatures. A heat transfer fluid circulates through a metal tube (receiver) with an external selective surface that absorbs solar radiation reflected from the mirror surfaces of the PTC. In order to reduce the heat losses, the receiver is covered by an envelope and the enclosure is usually kept under vacuum pressure. The heat transfer and optical analysis of the PTC is essential to optimize and understand its performance under different operating conditions. In this paper a detailed one dimensional numerical heat transfer analysis of a PTC is performed. The receiver and envelope were divided into several segments and mass and energy balance were applied in each segment. Improvements either in the heat transfer correlations or radiative heat transfer analysis are presented as well. The partial differential equations were discretized and the nonlinear algebraic equations were solved simultaneously. Finally, to validate the numerical results, the model was compared with experimental data obtained from Sandia National Laboratory (SNL) and other one dimensional heat transfer models. Our results showed a better agreement with experimental data compared to other models.  相似文献

Scientific and other non-patent references (NPRs) in patents are important tools to analyze interactions between science and technology. This paper organizes a database with 514,894 USPTO patents granted globally in 1974, 1982, 1990, 1998 and 2006. There are 165,762 patents with at least one reference to science and engineering (S&E) literature, from a total of 1,375,503 references. Through a lexical analysis, 71.1% of this S&E literature is classified by S&E fields. These data serve as the basis for the elaboration of global and national 3-dimensional matrices (technological domains, S&E fields and number of references). Three indicators are proposed to analyze these matrices, allowing us to identify patterns of structured growth that differentiate developed and non-developed countries. This differentiation informs suggestions for public policies for development, emphasizing the need for an articulation between the industrial and technological dimension and scientific side. The intertwinement of these two dimensions is a key component of developmental policies for the twenty-first century.  相似文献

Standard spring constant calibration methods are compared when applied to higher eigenmodes of cantilevers used in dynamic atomic force microscopy (dAFM).?Analysis shows that Sader's original method (Sader et al 1999 Rev. Sci. Instrum. 70 3967-9), which relies on a priori knowledge of the eigenmode shape, is poorly suited for the calibration of higher eigenmodes. On the other hand, the thermal noise method (Hutter and Bechhoefer 1993 Rev. Sci. Instrum. 64 1868-73) does not require knowledge of the eigenmode and remains valid for higher eigenmodes of the dAFM probe. Experimental measurements of thermal vibrations in air for three representative cantilevers are provided to support the theoretical results.  相似文献

Coarse-mesh numerical methods are very efficient in the sense that they generate accurate results in short computational time, as the number of floating point operations generally decrease, as a result of the reduced number of mesh points. On the other hand, they generate numerical solutions that do not give detailed information on the problem solution profile, as the grid points can be located considerably away from each other. In this paper we describe two steps for the analytical reconstruction of the coarse-mesh solution generated by the spectral nodal method for neutral particle discrete ordinates (SN) transport model in slab geometry. The first step of the algorithm is based on the analytical reconstruction of the coarse-mesh solution within each discretization cell of the grid set up on the spatial domain. The second step is based on the angular reconstruction of the discrete ordinates solution between two contiguous ordinates of the angular quadrature set used in the SN model. Numerical results are given so we can illustrate the accuracy of the two reconstruction techniques, as described in this paper.  相似文献

A new catalyst for an old material: magnetite is an excellent Lewis acid catalyst for the four‐component aza‐Sakurai reaction. The process could be repeated up to 15‐times without losing effectiveness, with the catalyst recycling being as easy as the use of a simple magnet. The catalyst is selective and could discriminate between aldehyde and ketone functionalities, catalyzing first the reaction with the higher electrophilic aldehyde.  相似文献

This paper presents experimental results and analysis of six model centrifuge experiments conducted on the 150?g-ton Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute centrifuge to investigate the effect of soil permeability on the response of end-bearing single piles and pile groups subjected to lateral spreading. The models were tested in a laminar box and simulate a mild infinite slope with a liquefiable sand layer on top of a nonliquefiable layer. Three fine sand models consisting of a single pile, a 3×1 pile group, and a 2×2 pile group were tested, first using water as pore fluid, and then repeated using a viscous pore fluid, hence simulating two sands of different permeability in the field. The results were dramatically different, with the three tests simulating a low permeability soil developing 3–6 times larger pile head displacements and bending moments at the end of shaking. Deformation observations of colored sand strips, as well as measurements of sustained negative excess pore pressures near the foundations in the “viscous fluid” experiments, indicated that an approximately inverted conical zone of nonliquefied soil had formed in these tests at shallow depths around the foundation, which forced the liquefied soil in the free field to apply its lateral pressure against a much larger effective foundation area. Additional p-y and limit equilibrium back-analyses support the hypothesis that the greatly increased foundation bending response observed when the soil is less pervious is due to the formation of such inverted conical volume of nonliquefied sand. This study provides evidence of the importance of soil permeability on pile foundations response during lateral spreading for cases when the liquefied deposit reaches the ground surface, and suggests that bending response may be greater in silty sands than in clean sands in the field. Moreover, the observations in this study may serve as basis for realistic practical engineering methods to evaluate pile foundations subjected to lateral spreading and pressure of liquefied soil.  相似文献

The asymmetrical rolling process has been studied as a way to promote intense shear deformations across the sheet thickness. These shear deformations may lead, given the proper conditions, to the development of shear texture components ({001}<110>, {111}<110> and {111}<112>) and also grain refinement. In this work, a 1050-O sheet is asymmetrically rolled and annealed. Conventional rolling is also performed, for comparison purposes. Shear texture components are obtained for the asymmetrically rolled specimens, and seem to be retained after annealing. Differences in mechanical response between asymmetrical and conventionally rolled specimens, as well as texture evolution after heat treatment processing are inferred based on experimental tensile and shear tests. Numerical simulations are used to help explain the differences found on experimental tests. It is proven that it is difficult to spread shear texture through the entire sheet thickness from a general asymmetric rolling process. Based on the fact, future research is discussed at closure.  相似文献

Most patients with ovarian cancer (OvCA) present peritoneal disseminated disease at the time of diagnosis. During peritoneal metastasis, cancer cells detach from the primary tumor and disseminate through the intraperitoneal fluid. The peritoneal mesothelial cell (PMC) monolayer that lines the abdominal cavity is the first barrier encountered by OvCA cells. Subsequent progression of tumors through the peritoneum leads to the accumulation into the peritoneal stroma of a sizeable population of carcinoma-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), which is mainly originated from a mesothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (MMT) process. A common characteristic of OvCA patients is the intraperitoneal accumulation of ascitic fluid, which is composed of cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, miRNAs, and proteins contained in exosomes, as well as tumor and mesothelial suspended cells, among other components that vary in proportion between patients. Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles that have been shown to mediate peritoneal metastasis by educating a pre-metastatic niche, promoting the accumulation of CAFs via MMT, and inducing tumor growth and chemoresistance. This review summarizes and discusses the pivotal role of exosomes and MMT as mediators of OvCA peritoneal colonization and as emerging diagnostic and therapeutic targets.  相似文献

Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2) is an essential plasma membrane component involved in several cellular functions, including membrane trafficking and cytoskeleton organization. This function multiplicity is partially achieved through a dynamic spatiotemporal organization of PI(4,5)P2 within the membrane. Here, we use a Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) approach to quantitatively assess the extent of PI(4,5)P2 confinement within the plasma membrane. This methodology relies on the rigorous evaluation of the dependence of absolute FRET efficiencies between pleckstrin homology domains (PHPLCδ) fused with fluorescent proteins and their average fluorescence intensity at the membrane. PI(4,5)P2 is found to be significantly compartmentalized at the plasma membrane of HeLa cells, and these clusters are not cholesterol-dependent, suggesting that membrane rafts are not involved in the formation of these nanodomains. On the other hand, upon inhibition of actin polymerization, compartmentalization of PI(4,5)P2 is almost entirely eliminated, showing that the cytoskeleton network is the critical component responsible for the formation of nanoscale PI(4,5)P2 domains in HeLa cells.  相似文献
