Calculation of the electric field enhancement for a degenerate diffusion process

The internal electric field produced by a constant source impurity diffusion is calculated using Fermi-Dirac statistics for the majority carrier. Numerical results indicate that treating the material as if it were nondegenerate always produces an underestimate in the electric field. The field enhancement factor which gives the ratio of the effective diffusion coefficient to the impurity diffusion coefficient valid for a degenerate diffusion process is clarified.     

eFeed-Hungers.com: Mitigating global hunger crisis using next generation technologies

Hunger is a global crisis and impacting the world for a very long time. Significant efforts have been made in the past by various organizations employing various means to address this persisting problem. Despite this, it still remains far from being resolved. Recently, the United Nations has published a report on global hunger, which claims that the global food production is fairly enough to feed the entire world with a population of about 7.3 billion. However, a major quantity of the food grown is not channeled appropriately and effectively to reach the needy and thus gets wasted unfortunately. Using the advanced computer technologies, we devise and develop a web-based computational framework (eFeed-Hungers.com) that serves as a bridge between the food waste and the hunger to mitigate the hunger issue; the food waste is the excess, unused, edible food, which otherwise is destined to the dumpster unfortunately. The eFeed-Hungers.com encourages and assists the food waste donation announcements with the least minimal efforts with the best possible outreach. Through the eFeed-Hungers.com, the food donations are globally searchable by the needy, with enough additional information imparted for quick decisions making to fetch the appropriate donated food. The eFeed-Hungers.com is envisioned to be a fully functional organization eventually with global outreach.     

Dynamics of Jacobi elliptic and soliton solutions for the modified quadratic-cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation

We consider the quadratic-cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the presence of external source, as an approximate model for a relatively quasi-1D Bose-Einstein condensate coupled to a waveguide. A scaling transformation is used to obtain a wide class of exact solutions for this model. It possesses fractional transform Jacobi elliptic solutions whose dynamics can be controlled by judicious choice of source and nonlinearity parameters. For other parametric conditions, this model exhibits bright/dark, Lorentzian-type and rational dark solitons. The presence of quadratic nonlinear term introduces a constant background and thus amplified the propagating wave. Further, the phase of the propagating wave is locked to the source and can be made either in- or out of-phase to the source wave through sign reversal of source parameter.     

Studies of the curing kinetics and thermal stability of epoxy resins using a mixture of amines and anhydrides

This article describes the curing and thermal behavior of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A with phthalic anhydride (PA)/pyromellitic anhydride/diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS) or a mixture of anhydrides and amines in varying ratios as curing agents. The kinetics of the curing behavior was investigated with a multiple‐rate method. The activation energy of the curing reaction as determined in accordance with Ozawa's method was found dependent on the structure of the anhydride and on the ratio of amines to anhydrides. The activation energy was highest with sample DP3 (0.25 : 0.75) and DM3 (0.25 : 0.75). We evaluated the thermal stability of epoxy resin, cured isothermally, by recording thermogravimetric traces in a nitrogen atmosphere. The char yield was highest for resins cured with a mixture of DDS and PA (0.5 : 0.5) and a mixture of DDS and pyromellitic dianhydride (0.25 : 0.75). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 为解决传统工业控制技术存在的问题,设计一种基于ARM芯片的嵌入式控制平台。该平台以嵌入式ARM为核心,以移植μCLinux实时操作系统的嵌入式ARM平台作为下位机,以工控机作为上位机,并结合CAN总线技术实现对工业生产的控制。详细介绍了其软、硬件的设计,包括下位机的I/O模块设计、CAN总线设备在μCLinux下的驱动实现和μCLinux实时操作系统的移植等。该方案突破传统控制模式,具有更强大的处理能力和更优越的通信方式,适用于工业现场的安装和监控。     

Crystallographic evaluation of sodium zirconium phosphate as a host structure for immobilization of cesium

Sodium zirconium phosphate (NZP) is a potential material for immobilization of nuclear effluents. The existence of cesium containing NZP structure was determined on the basis of crystal data of solid solution. It was found that up to ~9.0 wt% of cesium could be loaded into NZP formulations without significant changes of the three-dimensional framework structure. The crystal chemistry of Na_1−x Cs _x Zr₂P₃O₁₂ (x = 0.1–0.4) has been investigated using General Structure Analysis System programming. The CsNZP phases crystallize in the space group R-3c and Z = 6. Powder diffraction data have been subjected to Rietveld refinement to arrive at a satisfactory structural convergence of R-factors. The unit cell volume and polyhedral (ZrO₆ and PO₄) distortion increase with rise in the mole% of Cs⁺ in the NZP matrix. The PO₄ stretching and bending vibrations in the infrared region have been assigned. SEM, TEM, and EDAX analysis provide analytical evidence of cesium in the matrix.     

Unusual presentation of a case of Sjogren's syndrome with neurological and ocular manifestation

Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease that commonly presents to the ophthalmologist as a dry eye disease. We report an unusual presentation of a case of Sjogren's syndrome. A 33-year-old man presented with lid swelling, pseudomembraneous conjunctivitis with central corneal epithelial defect and history of limb weakness for past 2 years. There was progressive enlargement of the epithelial defect and conjunctival-scleral necrosis developed during follow-up. Evaluation for underlying connective tissue disorder was positive for SS-B/La antibody and, the rheumatoid factor, anti nuclear antibody, anti neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody titres were negative. Patient was diagnosed as a case of Primary Sjogren's syndrome. Resolution of the conjunctival-scleral necrosis occurred following treatment with combination of cyclosporine and prednisolone. Paramedian tarsorrhaphy was performed to promote healing of the corneal epithelium. The corneal epithelium healed, conjunctival-scleral necrosis resolved completely and the visual acuity improved to 6/36 in the right eye after 3 months of immunosuppressive therapy. The immunosuppressive therapy was discontinued after completion of 6 months of treatment. After 6 months follow-up of stopping immunosuppressive therapy, the ocular and systemic condition is stable.     

A review on the clad failure studies

In this paper, an attempt has been made to systematically organize the research investigations conducted on clad tube failure, so far. Before presenting the review on the clad failure studies, an introduction to different clad materials has been added, in which the effect of alloying elements on the material properties have been presented. The literature on clad failure has been broadly categorized under the headings LOCA and RIA. The failure mechanisms like creep, corrosion and pellet-clad interaction have been discussed in details. Each subsection of the review has been provided with summary table, in which the studies are arranged in the chronological order. A small section on acceptance criteria for ECCS has also been included. The last section of the review has been dedicated to the core-degradation phenomena.
