Knowledge of the association between cooking properties and endosperm hardness may help nutritionist and processors to select raw materials for preparing maize based food products, particularly those eaten as cooked dispersions. Seven commercial maize cultivars differing in hardness were selected to evaluate endosperm hardness on the kernels and some characteristics such as composition and hydration and cooking properties on the grits obtained from those maizes. Results show that the differences in endosperm hardness (directly related to grits protein content) can explain the differences in swelling and amylographic consistencies values. Cultivars with the hardest endosperm show the lowest values at high temperature. They also show the lowest amylographic consistencies. On the other hand softer endosperms present the highest swelling power and the highest amylographic consistencies. These differences are attributed to the restriction for starch swelling caused by the protein matrix. Endosperm hardness measurements and swelling power at 95 degrees C, can be useful to select cultivars that are going to be used to prepare maize based foods like atoles, polenta, etc.  相似文献

Considering the hexagonal-shaped quantum-scale formations on the surface of thin semiconductor films, a methodology was developed to obtain the analytical solution of the Schrdinger equation when impenetrable walls of a quantum well are treated as mirrors. Summary The effects of blending sequence and the addition of an interfacial agent (triblock copolymer styrene-butylene ethylene/styrene, Kraton G1652) on the morphology and the mechanical properties of Polycarbonate (PC)/Polypropylene (PP) blends prepared by injection molding were studied. This study presents an analysis of impact resistance, tensile properties and morphology of the raw materials and the blends at different compositions. The blends, before being injected, were prepared in a twin-screw extruder by different sequences of blending. The results indicate that the blending sequence and the presence of humidity significantly affect the properties and morphology of the blends. For ternary blends (PC/PP/Kraton), only one-step mixing before injection molding proved to be sufficient to improve mechanical properties. Increasing the amount of blending steps did not present a significant change in properties. With the addition of the interfacial agent, higher impact resistance and particle size reduction were observed.  相似文献

In this work, biocomposites made of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) with natural fibers were produced via compression molding. In particular, polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) and polyhydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate (PHBV) were reinforced with 20 wt% of agave fibers. Different compatibilization strategies were investigated to improve the fiber-matrix interaction: fiber surface treatment in PHA solution, fiber surface treatment in maleated PHA solution, fiber propionylation, and extrusion with maleated PHA. The biocomposites were characterized in terms of morphology, mechanical properties, water absorption, and biodegradability by CO2 production tracking. In general, fiber propionylation was the best strategy for mechanical properties enhancement and water uptake decreasing. Biocomposites with propionylated fibers showed improved flexural strength (170% for PHB and 84% for PHBV). The flexural modulus was also enhanced with propionylated fibers up to 19% and 18% compared to uncompatibilized biocomposites (PHB and PHBV, respectively). Tensile strength increased by 16% (PHB) and 14% (PHBV), and the water absorption was reduced using propionylated fibers going from 6.6% to 4.4% compared with biocomposites with untreated fibers. Most importantly, the impact strength was also improved for all biocomposites by up to 96% compared with the neat PHA matrices. Finally, it was found that the compatibilization did not negatively modify the PHA biodegradability.  相似文献

The efficient use of resources is a matter of great concern in today’s society, especially in the energy sector. Although the main strategy to decrease energy use has long been focused on supply, over the last few years, there has been a shift to the demand side. Under this new line of action, demand-side management networks have emerged and extended from the household level to larger installations, with the appearance of the concepts of Smart Grids and even Smart Cities. The extended use of Smart Meters for measuring residential electricity consumption facilitates the creation of such intelligent environments. In this context, this article proposes a system which extracts value from the collected consumer information to identify the appliances belonging to that smart environment by means of machine learning techniques. Considering the large amount of information that would be handled when millions of homes were sending data, big data technology has been used. An experiment to evaluate the classification method was carried out with seven devices and three different configurations. The results are also reported, achieving promising results, with recognition rates of 75 % after 1 h of training and 100 % after 4 h.  相似文献

Interest in multimodal function optimization is expanding rapidly as real-world optimization problems often demand locating multiple optima within a search space. This article presents a new multimodal optimization algorithm named as the collective animal behavior. Animal groups, such as schools of fish, flocks of birds, swarms of locusts, and herds of wildebeest, exhibit a variety of behaviors including swarming about a food source, milling around a central location, or migrating over large distances in aligned groups. These collective behaviors are often advantageous to groups, allowing them to increase their harvesting efficiency to follow better migration routes, to improve their aerodynamic, and to avoid predation. In the proposed algorithm, searcher agents are a group of animals which interact with each other based on the biologic laws of collective motion. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is capable of finding global and local optima of benchmark multimodal optimization problems with a higher efficiency in comparison with other methods reported in the literature.  相似文献

This work presents a service oriented architecture for evolutionary algorithms, and an implementation of this architecture using a specific technology (called OSGiLiath). Service oriented architecture is a computational paradigm where users interact using services to increase the integration between systems. The presented abstract architecture is formed by loosely coupled, highly configurable and language-independent services. As an example of an implementation of this architecture, a complete process development using a specific service oriented technology is explained. With this implementation, less effort than classical development in integration, distribution mechanisms and execution time management has been attained. In addition, steps, ideas, advantages and disadvantages, and guidelines to create service oriented evolutionary algorithms are presented. Using existing software, or from scratch, researchers can create services to increase the interoperability in this area.  相似文献

The need for accessibility evaluation tools is motivated by several endogenous and exogenous reasons coming from the end user (the designer and the developer) and companies releasing information systems. Existing evaluation tools mainly concentrate on examining the code of Web pages: Web pages more and more frequently contain non-HTML parts that entirely escape from being treated by existing techniques. This is the case of the advanced human–machine interface (AHMI), a piece of software programmed in C/C++, used for controlling the advanced flight management system in the aircraft cockpit. Studying this new user interface (UI) requires a structured approach to evaluate and validate AHMI designs. The goal in this work is to develop an evaluation tool to automate the process of evaluating the AHMI. The method addresses: support of multiple bases of guidelines (accessibility or usability or both) on-demand (partial or total evaluation), with different levels of details (a presentation for developers and for those responsible for certifying accessibility). The method goes a step toward the automatic evaluation of UI containing non-HTML parts.  相似文献
