Investigated the effect of a school-wide intervention plan, consisting of precorrection and active supervision strategies, on the social behavior of elementary students in major transition settings. Three transition settings were targeted in an elementary school: (1) entering the school building, (2) moving to the cafeteria for lunch, and (3) exiting the school building. A multiple baseline design across the 3 transition settings was used. An analysis of baseline data indicated high rates of student problem behavior, especially running, hitting, and yelling, and low rates of precorrection and active supervision behaviors by staff. Results showed increases in precorrection and active supervision behaviors by staff with concomitant, substantial reductions in student problem behavior. Details of the methodology and results, and practical implications and directions for future research are described and discussed. Three unrelated patients with identical radiological features are presented. Hypotonia was noted at birth and one patient was diagnosed as having congenital fibre type disproportion in the neonatal period. Later muscle biopsies, however, were entirely normal. All patients, now in their teens and twenties, are of normal intelligence, show striking epiphyseal and metaphyseal changes of the long bones, and have joint laxity and multiple dislocations of large joints, which are particularly incapacitating at the knees. These three cases represent a sporadic, previously unreported skeletal dysplasia with spondyloepimetaphyseal distribution and multiple large joint dislocations.  相似文献

In the rat, the enzyme 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 2 (11betaHSD2) converts the glucocorticoid corticosterone into receptor-inactive 11-dehydrocorticosterone, thereby allowing preferential access of aldosterone to mineralocorticoid receptors (MR). The present study examines the distribution of this enzyme by in situ hybridization, using a homologous complementary RNA probe for 11betaHSD2. 11betaHSD2 messenger RNA was detected in classic epithelial aldosterone target tissues (kidney, salivary glands, and colon), the female reproductive system (ovary, oviduct, uterus, and placenta), and the adrenals; levels in heart, testis, and liver were below the limits of detection. We interpret the finding of 11betaHSD2 expression in both classical MR-containing aldosterone target tissues and a variety of other tissue as evidence that in the rat, the enzyme may play physiological roles in addition to that of excluding glucocorticoids from epithelial MR.  相似文献

A two-stage algorithm was recently proposed by Sklansky (1982) for computing the convex hull of a simple polygon P. The first step is intended to compute a simple polygon P1 which is monotonic in both the x and y directions and which contains the convex hull vertices of P. The second step applies a very simple convex hull algorithm on P1. In this note we show that the first step does not always work correctly and can even yield non-simple polygons, invalidating the use of the second step. It is also shown that the first step can discard convex hull vertices thus invalidating the use of any convex hull algorithm in the second step.  相似文献

Two membrane glycoproteins acting as energy-dependent efflux pumps, mdr-encoded P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and the more recently described multidrug resistance-associated protein (MRP), are known to confer cellular resistance to many cytotoxic hydrophobic drugs. In the brain, P-gp has been shown to be expressed specifically in the capillary endothelial cells forming the blood-brain barrier, but localization of MRP has not been well characterized yet. Using RT-PCR and immunoblot analysis, we have compared the expression of P-gp and Mrp1 in homogenates, isolated capillaries, primary cultured endothelial cells, and RBE4 immortalized endothelial cells from rat brain. Whereas the mdr1a P-gp-encoding mRNA was specifically detected in brain microvessels and mdr1b mRNA in brain parenchyma, mrp1 mRNA was present both in microvessels and in parenchyma. However, Mrp1 was weakly expressed in microvessels. Mrp1 expression was higher in brain parenchyma, as well as in primary cultured brain endothelial cells and in immortalized RBE4 cells. This Mrp1 overexpression in cultured brain endothelial cells was less pronounced when the cells were cocultured with astrocytes. A low Mrp activity could be demonstrated in the endothelial cell primary monocultures, because the intracellular [3H]vincristine accumulation was increased by several MRP modulators. No Mrp activity was found in the cocultures or in the RBE4 cells. We suggest that in rat brain, Mrp1, unlike P-gp, is not predominantly expressed in the blood-brain barrier endothelial cells and that Mrp1 and the mdr1b P-gp isoform may be present in other cerebral cells.  相似文献

An ergonomic evaluation model for hand tools was developed and applied in a project aiming at assessment of work with plate shears. Measurement variables were physical, physiological and psychophysical. They included tool force and opening angle, wrist movements, muscular strain and fatigue, subjective rating of symptoms, and localization of symptoms, in a group of male professional platers. Different hand grips were studied in a series of cutting tasks (4.2 m cutting length). Results showed that working with conventional plate shears is extremely physically demanding. The peak force required was in the range of 26 to 72 per cent of the subjects' maximal hand grip force. There was ample localized muscle fatigue in the forearm. Psychophysical and electrophysiological data agreed with respect to aspects of muscular strain and fatigue. Workers' preferences in the short run seemed to focus on productivity rather than on ergonomic quality. There is a need for development of improved tools, based on formulated requirements.  相似文献

Dense wustite was reduced at temperatures from 430 to 1100 °C in CO-A, CO-CO2, H2-A, and H2-H2O mixtures. Most of the experiments were conducted on a hot stage microscope, providing a clear record of the sequence of events. The morphology of phases was further studied on the optical and the scanning electron microscopes. Two types of nuclei were identified: (1) dense nuclei, ranging from regular whiskers to simple protrusions, around which flat bases develop to form a protective film, and (2) porous nuclei with lenticular shapes, which remain level with the sample surface as they grow (both radially and into the wustite) to form a porous layer. Mild gases and moderate temperatures favor dense iron, whereas strong gases and extreme temperatures (either low or high) favor porous iron. The domains of the two types are represented in morphology maps. They overlap in transition zones where mixed nuclei are found; in this case the porous nuclei appear later than the dense ones but they grow much faster. The morphology maps support the view that sponge iron in iron ore reduction does not originate from porous iron nuclei but develops as a maze of dense iron growths. Experiments with cold-worked and annealed samples indicate that dislocations are essential to the growth of whiskers. The present study evaluated the intravenous (IV) self-injection of 3 psychomotor stimulantanorectics in 5 baboons (Papio cynocephalus) A cocaine substitution procedure was used. IV self-injections were available 24 hr/day according to a fixed-ratio (FR) schedule with a 3-hr time-out following each injection. Doses of aminorex (0.01–0.32 mg/kg/injection), propylhexedrine (0.1–3.2 mg/kg/injection), mazindol (0.001–0.1 mg/kg/injection), and their vehicles were substituted for cocaine for 15 or more days. A concurrent FR schedule of food pellet delivery allowed evaluation of changes in food intake. The highest dose of each drug maintained self-injection at rates higher than vehicle control, suppressed food intake, and produced gross behavioral changes similar to those produced by classic psychomotor stimulants such as d-amphetamine. The present data indicate that each of the drugs functions as a positive reinforcer in baboons and suggest that each may have abuse potential.
