Extended Depth-Buffer Algorithms for Hidden-Surface Visualization

Users of interactive CAD systems who are trying to cope with the hidden-surface visualization problem will want to investigate this new algorithm.     

Metallopolymer Films Exhibiting Three-Color Electrochromism in the UV/Vis and Near-IR Region: Remarkable Utility of Trimetallic Clusters Bearing Thienyl Pendants and Their Mixed-Valent Charge Transfer Transitions

Novel oxo-centered, acetate-bridged trinuclear ruthenium clusters functionalized with two pyridine ligands with thienyl substituents, [Ru₃O(CH₃COO)₆(CO)(L1)₂] (1) and [Ru₃O(CH₃COO)₆(CO)(L2)₂] (2), where L1 = 4-(2-thienyl)pyridine and L2 = 4-(2,2′-bithienyl)pyridine, have been synthesized and characterized. The molecular structure of 2 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. One-electron oxidation of 2 with silver(I) cation has led to the isolation of a CO-dissociated product, [Ru₃O(CH₃COO)₆(H₂O)(L2)₂]PF₆ (3·PF ₆ ), and subsequent reaction with 4-dimethylaminopyridine (dmap) gave [Ru₃O(CH₃COO)₆(dmap)(L2)₂]PF₆ (4·PF ₆ ). Linear metallopolymers containing the {Ru₃O(CH₃COO)₆} groups have been deposited onto indium-tin oxide surface via oxidative electropolymerization of 2, 3·PF ₆ , and 4·PF ₆ . These metallopolymer thin films exhibit three-color electrochromism in the UV/Vis and near-IR region associated with the Ru₃ ^II,III,III, Ru₃ ^III,III,III, and Ru₃ ^III,III,IV oxidation states.     

Double-layer type microwave absorber made of magnetic-dielectric composite material

Changing the combination of 2^nd layer in a double-layer type microwave absorber, the matching frequency (8.10–10.88 GHz), maximum reflection loss and matching thickness at the matching frequency could be systematically controlled and compared with those of single-layer type microwave absorber. Theories for graphics processors in TIPS-1

This paper describes the theoretical aspects of graphics processors in CAD/CAM system TIPS-1. As one of the man-machine interfaces in the CAD/CAM field, computer graphics plays an important role. And this field, computer graphics involves not only image processing with shaded pictures produced by raster scan displays but also sectional and/or perspective view drawing picture by line drawing display. By using TIPS-1 graphics processors, we can get both raster scan and line drawing pictures for the same of modeled 3-D geometry. The following items are considered as the necessary conditions for developing graphics processors.

• • To develop geometric modeling theory.

• • To develop generative geometry pattern processing theory.

• • To implement problem-oriented graphics routines based on above conditions.

How to complete these conditions is described with several figures and graphic outputs.     

Control of the thermal lensing effect with different pump light distributions

We built a 32-laser-diode-formed virtual point source pumping system and achieved different pump light distributions from central intense to central uniform and central depressed. Continuous wave TEM(00) operations of a Nd:YAG laser were performed under these pump light distributions and their thermal lensing effects were estimated. Results show that the operation under central depressed pump light distribution has the lowest thermal lensing effect and can provide the highest output power, which agrees with the results derived from the theoretical calculation with the heat conduction equation.
