Polymeric reaction of the poly(n-butyl acrylate) (PBA)–benzyl acrylate (BzA) system induced by a low-energy electron beam was investigated. In order to elucidate the reaction behavior of the PBA–BzA system, the gel fraction, molecular weight of soluble part, and molecular weight distributions were examined by means of gel permeation chromatography (GPC) equipped with both ultraviolet (UV) and refractive index (RI) detectors. RI-detected GPC curves represented the molecular weights and their distributions of the total polymers, graft polymer, homopolymer, and unreacted PBA, while UV-detected curves only corresponded to the benzyl groups of graft polymer and homopolymer. Thus, the reaction behavior of the system was able to be followed by GPC. The molecular weight of the added PBA and the mole ratio of PBA/BzA were varied. The crosslinking, the graft reaction and the homopolymerization of BzA proceeded competitively during the polymeric reaction. The proportions of BzA unit incorporated into the crosslinked, graft and homo polymers were estimated by combining of measurement of gel fraction, UV-detected GPC curves, and infrared (IR) spectrum of gel. It was revealed that in the system containing PBA with high molecular weight, the grafting, and the crosslinking reactions predominated. The main reaction was the grafting in the system with a high mole ratio of PBA/BzA, while it was the homopolymerization in the systems with the low mole ratio of PBA/BzA. Simultaneous recordings were collected from between two and four buildup neurons from the left and right superior colliculi in rhesus monkeys in a simple two-choice brightness discrimination task. The monkeys were required to move their eyes to one of two response targets to indicate their decision. Neurons were identified whose receptive fields were centered on the response targets. The functional role of inhibition was examined by conditionalizing firing rate on a high versus low rate in target neurons 90 ms to 30 ms before the saccade and examining the firing rate in both contralateral and ipsilateral neurons. Two models with racing diffusion processes were fit to the behavioral data, and the same analysis was performed on simulated paths in the diffusion processes that have been found to represent firing rate. The results produce converging evidence for the lack of a functional role for inhibition between neural populations corresponding to the two decisions. 相似文献

New models are proposed for the distributions of active slip systems induced by a cone and a ball indentation on the (001) plane of f.c.c. metals. By employing modified elastic stress fields, three or four primary slip systems are predicted to be individually active in the octant bounded by the [110] and [010] axes.The observed slip traces, surface topography and the shape of dislocation clustering zones are shown to be in reasonable agreement with those expected by the activation of the predicted slip systems. The electronic specific heat Cel was studied in Ga- and Zn-doped La2–xSrxCuO4 (0.16x0.22) at T10K. Partial substitution of Ga or Zn for Cu suppresses Tc and revives the T-linear electronic specific heat, T, markedly. The (y)/n vs Tc/Tc0 relation for Zn-doped samples with x0.2 is in good agreement with the theoretical one for resonant impurity scattering in a d-wave superconductor, while those for Ga-doped samples and for Zn-doped samples with x 0.2 deviate slightly from the theoretical curve. To determine whether the vomeronasal system of the Brazilian short-tailed opossum (Monodelphis domestica) is important to the response to conspecific chemical signals, the authors tested female opossums with conspecific odors, before and after ablation of their accessory olfactory bulbs (AOBs). Anesthesia and sham treatments did not modify females' discrimination of conspecific odors when tested against water, between male and female odors, or between different odors from the same male donors. Odor investigation was partially diminished following partial ablation of the AOB, and complete ablation of the AOBs further impaired the ability of females to discriminate between certain odors. These findings provide the first evidence for the importance of the vomeronasal system in the detection of chemosignals of known origin in opossums. We previously demonstrated the marked hepatosteatosis and endothelial dysfunction in hepatocyte-specific ERK2 knockout mice (LE2KO) with a high-fat/high-sucrose diet (HFHSD), but detailed metabolic changes and the characteristics in insulin-sensitive organs were not tested. This study aimed to characterize metabolic remodeling with changes in insulin-sensitive organs, which could induce endothelial dysfunction in HFHSD-LE2KO. The serum glucose and fatty acid (FA) were modestly higher in HFHSD-LE2KO than HFHSD-Control. FA synthesis genes were up-regulated, which was associated with the decreased phosphorylation of AMPK and ACC, and with the up-regulation of SREBP-1 in the liver from HFHSD-LE2KO. In FA and amino acids fraction analysis, arachidonic acid/eicosapentaenoic acid ratio, L-ornithine/arginine ratio, asymmetric dimethylarginine and homocysteine levels were elevated in HFHSD-LE2KO. Insulin-induced phosphorylation of AKT was blunted in skeletal muscle. Serum leptin and IL-1β were elevated, and serum adiponectin was decreased with the enlargement of epididymal adipocytes. Finally, the enhanced superoxide levels in the aorta, which were blunted with CCCP, apocynin, and tempol, were observed in HFHSD-LE2KO. A pre-incubation of aortic rings with tempol improved endothelial dysfunction in HFHSD-LE2KO. HFHSD-LE2KO revealed an acceleration of FA synthesis in the liver leading to insulin resistance in skeletal muscle and the enlargement of visceral adipocytes. Global metabolic remodeling such as changes in arginine metabolism, ω3/ω6 ratio, and adipocytokines, could affect the vascular oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction in HFHSD-LE2KO. 相似文献

Uromodulin, a urinary protein synthesized and secreted from the thick ascending limb (TAL) of the loop of Henle, is associated with hypertension through the activation of sodium reabsorption in the TAL. Uromodulin is a potential target for hypertension treatment via natriuresis. However, its biological function in epithelial cells of the distal nephron segment, particularly the collecting duct, remains unknown. Herein, we examined the regulation of uromodulin production during water deprivation in vivo as well as the effect of uromodulin on the activity of the water channel aquaporin−2 (AQP2) in vitro and in vivo using transgenic mice. Water deprivation upregulated uromodulin production; immunofluorescence experiments revealed uromodulin adhesion on the apical surface of the collecting duct. Furthermore, the activation of AQP2 was attenuated in mice lacking uromodulin. Uromodulin enhanced the phosphorylation and apical trafficking of AQP2 in mouse collecting duct cells treated with the vasopressin analog dDAVP. The uromodulin-induced apical trafficking of AQP2 was attenuated via endocytosis inhibitor treatment, suggesting that uromodulin activates AQP2 through the suppression of endocytosis. This study provides novel insights into the cross−talk between TAL and the collecting duct, and indicates that the modulation of uromodulin is a promising approach for diuresis and hypertension treatment. 相似文献

We conducted intratracheal instillations of polyacrylic acid (PAA) with crosslinking and non-crosslinking into rats in order to examine what kinds of physicochemical characteristics of acrylic-acid-based polymers affect responses in the lung. F344 rats were intratracheally exposed to similar molecular weights of crosslinked PAA (CL-PAA) (degree of crosslinking: ~0.1%) and non-crosslinked PAA (Non-CL-PAA) at low and high doses. Rats were sacrificed at 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-exposure. Both PAAs caused increases in neutrophil influx, cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractants (CINC) in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in the lung tissue from 3 days to 6 months following instillation. The release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity in the BALF was higher in the CL-PAA-exposed groups. Histopathological findings of the lungs demonstrated that the extensive fibrotic changes caused by CL-PAA were also greater than those in exposure to the Non-CL- PAA during the observation period. CL-PAA has more fibrogenicity of the lung, suggesting that crosslinking may be one of the physicochemical characteristic factors of PAA-induced lung disorder. 相似文献
