Polyethylene reactor powders prepared under different conditions were characterized using transmission electron microscopy, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray diffraction techniques. The molecular weight of the polyethylene reactor powders was around 1 × 105. A unique domain morphology, quite different from the usual melt- or solution-crystallized lamellar structure, was observed, independent of polymerization temperature (Tpoly). Annealing of reactor powders caused the aggregation of these crystalline domains, due to the significant molecular motion of the amorphous chains, before melting. The critical temperature was 20 °C higher than each Tpoly, and corresponded to the temperature at the active catalyst site producing the chain growth. The morphologies of powders prepared at the lower Tpoly contained smaller crystals that exhibited a constrained monoclinic form. In contrast, only usual orthorhombic crystals of larger size were found within the powder prepared at the higher Tpoly. These results suggest that the competitive processes of chain propagation and crystal growth upon polymerization may lead to unique variations of the crystalline and amorphous phases, but with similar intermediate components in the phase that connects them. 相似文献

The isothermal shrinkage behaviors of fine zirconia powders (containing 2.8–2.9 mol% Y2 O3 ) with specific surface areas of about 6 and 16 m2 /g were investigated to clarify the effect of specific surface area on the initial sintering stage. The shrinkage of powder compact was measured under constant temperatures in the range of 1000°–1100°C. The increase in specific surface area enhanced the densification rate with increasing temperature. The values of activation energy ( Q ) and frequency-factor term (β0 ) of diffusion at initial sintering were estimated by applying the sintering-rate equation to the isothermal shrinkage data. The Q of diffusion changes little but the β0 increases with the increase in specific surface area. It is therefore concluded that the increase in the specific surface area of fine zirconia powder enhances the shrinkage rate because of an increase in the β0 at the initial stage of sintering. 相似文献

A high‐speed vacuum circuit breaker (HSVCB) has been investigated. HSVCB makes high‐frequency current superimposed on a fault current so that the current is forced to be zero and is interrupted. Its interruption performance is considered to be dependent on the rate of change of the current (di/dt). As a fundamental research, we investigated the di/dt– dv/dt characteristics and the insulation recovery characteristic after interrupting the counter‐pulse current for various contact materials of AgWC, CuW, and CuCr. The results revealed that the case where the gap length is larger is better in a current interruption performance. Moreover, it was found that di/dt is not dependent on the insulation recovery characteristics, but the magnitude of interruption current is of great influence. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The first measurements to be made of large anistropic electroabsorption and modulation of long-wavelength light propagating along the plane of InGaAs/InAlAs multiple quantum well (MQW) structures grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) are reported. Photocurrent response of waveguide p-i-n diodes is studied for incident light polarization parallel and perpendicular to the MQW layers. Photocurrent increase with reverse bias throughout the entire photoresponse spectrum is observed for both polarizations. The MQW p-in optical modulator shows a capacitance-limited pulse response of 250 ps and the modulation depth is 14 percent. 相似文献

This study investigated the phenomenon of water freezing below freezing point in polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs). To understand the details of water freezing phenomena inside a PEFC, a system capable of cross-sectional imaging inside the fuel cell with visible and infrared images was developed. Super-cooled water freezing phenomena were observed under different gas purge conditions. The present test confirmed that super-cooled water was generated on the gas diffusion layer (GDL) surface and that water freezing occurs at the interface between the GDL and MEA (membrane electrode assembly) at the moment cell performance deteriorates under conditions when remaining water was dry enough inside the fuel cell before cold starting. Moreover, using infrared radiation imaging, it was clarified that heat of solidification spreads at the GDL/MEA interface at the moment cell performance drops. Compared with a no-initial purge condition, liquid water generation was not confirmed to cause ice growth at the GDL/MEA interface after cell performance deterioration. Each condition indicated that ice formation at the GDL/MEA interface causes cell performance deterioration. Therefore, it is believed that ice formation between the GDL/MEA interface causes air gas stoppage and that this blockage leads to a drop in cell performance. 相似文献

A retinal prosthesis device with built-in self-test capability is proposed and demonstrated. The measurement of electrode impedance as a self-test is achieved without increasing the chip area by employing analogue multiplexers to allow the electrodes to be used for both stimulation of retinal cells and measurement of impedance. Measurement is performed using a four-terminal method to ensure good accuracy. A prototype stimulus chip with 16/spl times/16 channels is fabricated using standard 0.6 /spl mu/m CMOS technology, and is demonstrated to provide self-test functionality with error of as little as 0.05% in the frequency range of 100 Hz to 100 kHz. 相似文献

We investigated slip and unstable flow phenomena of polystyrene melts in capillaries from the view of the effects of temperature and molecular weight by using three polystyrene samples with different molecular weights (Mw = 192,000, Mw = 258,000, and Mw = 321,000). The slip velocities are estimated by the Mooney method and the modified Mooney method. We found that the slip velocity increases and the critical slip stress above which a slip starts to occur decreases with the temperature. We also observed the melt-fracture at above a critical melt-fracture stress higher than . This article evaluates the performance of flexible manufacturing systems with finite local buffers and fixed or dynamic routing rules, and addresses the optimal design or system configuration problem of maximizing the system throughput. The costs include machine cost, part (or pallet) cost, and local buffers cost. First, the system throughputs and their behaviors are considered with both queueing network analysis and simulation, and it is shown for a fixed routing model that the system throughput in the case of finite local buffers is greater than in the case of infinite local buffers. For a fixed versus dynamic routing rule, it is also found that the throughput in the former case can be close to the one in the latter case by changing the setting parameters. Next, the design problems of maximizing the system throughput are considered numerically for fixed and dynamic routing cases. Then, it is seen that better combination of design variables is a class of the monotonicity in local buffers, service rates, and routing probabilities. 相似文献
