While the physical sputtering of atoms caused by keV and MeV ions has been studied extensively both by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and experiments, the mechanisms leading to atom and molecule erosion at energies 1–100 eV are not very well understood. We now describe how low-energy hydrogen ions can cause erosion of carbon atoms and hydrocarbon molecules by entering the region of a carbon–carbon chemical bond and hence breaking it, a process we call ‘swift chemical sputtering'. In the particular case of hydrogen bombardment of carbon-based materials, we further show that this can lead to erosion yields far exceeding those expected for a physical sputtering process.  相似文献

Wegener's granulomatosis (WG) is a granulomatous vasculitis that affects the upper respiratory tract, lung, and kidney. Since T cells make up a significant proportion of cells infiltrating granulomatous lesions in WG, we investigated the proliferative response and cytokine profile of T cells from these patients. PBMCs were isolated from 12 patients with active WG, 7 patients with inactive disease, and 12 healthy normal donors. PBMCs from clinically active WG patients exhibited increased proliferation following stimulation with either PMA/ionomycin or anti-CD2 and anti-CD28, when compared with normal donors. In addition, these PBMCs exhibited increased secretion of IFN-gamma, but not of IL-4, IL-5, or IL-10. Furthermore, TNF-alpha production from PBMCs and CD4+ T cells isolated from patients with WG was elevated, when compared with healthy donors. In further studies, we investigated the ability of WG patients' monocytes to produce IL-12 and showed that both inactive and active patients produced increased amounts of IL-12. Finally, the in vitro IFN-gamma production by WG PBMC is inhibited in a dose-dependent manner by exogenous IL-10. These data suggest that T cells from WG patients overproduce IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha, probably due to dysregulated IL-12 secretion, and that IL-10 may therefore have therapeutic implications for this disease.  相似文献

The prediction models for scintillation variance of ITU-R and Karasawa et al. (1988) are compared to measurements on a time base which is much shorter than originally considered for these models. It is shown that even after averaging over just three days, a good correlation with the measured variance is found. A compact varactor-tuned meander line monopole antenna for DVB-H signal reception is presented. The operating frequency of the antenna is continuously tuned over the frequency range of the DVB-H standard 470-702 MHz. The antenna has an omnidirectional radiation pattern and covers the frequency range with requisite impedance bandwidth and gain level. The antenna element occupies a very small volume (0.7 cm3 ) and can be used in 40 x 100 x 10 mm devices.  相似文献

A modified endoscopic technique for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using an autologous patellar tendon graft is described using the early results for 120 patients. A special technique using an oscillating hollow saw allows for the rapid and standardized harvest of cylindrical bone plugs, ensuring safe and adequate femoral press-fit fixation. The complications encountered included one fracture of a bone back on plugging in as well as two cases with revision procedures for interference screw fixation due to insufficient femoral anchorage. Within the framework of a prospective study, all 120 patients underwent a control arthroscopy after the first postoperative year showing viable and mechanically stable grafts in 64 (53.3%) of the patients. In 44 patients (36.7%), viable though somewhat lax grafts were found, whereas the remaining 12 patients (10%) only showed insufficient tissue residues. All of these cases were the result of a ventral misplacement of the femoral insertion site representing the primary complication of transtibial technique. The results of the control arthroscopies showed a highly significant correlation with the clinical results for the IKDC score obtained in a follow-up after an average 29 (18 to 36) months. The results for stability according to the IKDC rating scale showed a normal or near-normal knee function in 76.7%. With regard to the subjective results in the IKDC rating scale, 83.3% of the patients (n = 100) assessed their knee function as normal or almost normal. The location and positioning of the femoral and tibial tunnel were evaluated in an exact radiographic evaluation showing an "ideal position" of the graft in only 94 cases (78.3%). Statistically, a significant correlation of stability with the femoral fixation site could be shown.  相似文献

P-selectin is an adhesion receptor for leukocytes expressed on activated platelets and endothelial cells. The cytoplasmic domain of P-selectin was shown in vitro to contain signals required for both the sorting of this protein into storage granules and its internalization from the plasma membrane. To evaluate in vivo the role of the regulated secretion of P-selectin, we have generated a mouse that expresses P-selectin lacking the cytoplasmic domain (DeltaCT mice). The deletion did not affect the sorting of P-selectin into alpha-granules of platelets but severely compromised the storage of P-selectin in endothelial cells. Unstored P-selectin was proteolytically shed from the plasma membrane, resulting in increased levels of soluble P-selectin in the plasma. The DeltaCT-P-selectin appeared capable of mediating cell adhesion as it supported leukocyte rolling in the mutant mice. However, a secretagogue failed to upregulate leukocyte rolling in the DeltaCT mice, indicating an absence of a releasable storage pool of P-selectin in the endothelium. Furthermore, the neutrophil influx into the inflamed peritoneum was only 30% of the wild-type level 2 h after stimulation. Our results suggest that different sorting mechanisms for P-selectin are used in platelets and endothelial cells and that the storage pool of P-selectin in endothelial cells is functionally important during early stages of inflammation.  相似文献
