Contrary to common belief, back pain amongst young people is a frequent phenomenon. Epidemiological studies have found high prevalence rates of back pain amongst schoolchildren. The investigation reported here aims to validate children's self-reporting and the observation of sitting postures to establish the intensity, duration and frequency of exposure in the classroom. The sitting postures of 18 children were recorded using three methods, the portable ergonomic observation method (PEO), video analysis and self-report. The three methods were compared. PEO was significantly correlated with video analysis of the sitting postures after development of the method. Self-report was not significantly correlated with video analysis of the sitting postures. Therefore PEO was selected as the main observation tool in further analysis of children's sitting posture in schools in South-East England as part of a large research programme investigating back pain amongst schoolchildren. 相似文献

The increasing need to instruct students in the use of personal computer software, especially electronic spreadsheets, is placing greater demands on the already full university curriculum. A potential help in meeting these demands is the readily available computer-based software tutorials. In order to explore the feasibility of computer-based instruction as an alternative to human instruction, this research compares two modes of instruction, computer-based and human. An experiment was conducted with groups of business student subjects. The research results indicate no difference in students' attitude towards computer-based instruction and human instruction of spreadsheets. Students' short-term recall of the software syntax being taught is as strong with computer-based instruction as with human instruction. These results were not affected by the level of personal computer experience that students had prior to the experiment. However, the ability to comprehend and immediately apply the software to a task is greater with human instruction than with computer-aided instruction. Aquatic suction feeding in vertebrates involves extremely unsteady flow, externally as well as internally of the expanding mouth cavity. Consequently, studying the hydrodynamics involved in this process is a challenging research area, where experimental studies and mathematical models gradually aid our understanding of how suction feeding works mechanically. Especially for flow patterns inside the mouth cavity, our current knowledge is almost entirely based on modelling studies. Barium zirconate (BaZrO3) nanoparticles synthesized by a self-sustained single-step combustion process is reported in this paper. In this process, a phase pure nanopowder of BaZrO3 has been obtained by the combustion of an aqueous solution containing Ba and Zr ions by using citric acid as complexing agent and liquor ammonia as fuel, thus giving rise to phase pure BaZrO3 nanopowder in a single-step combustion without any further calcination. The X-ray diffraction studies have shown that the as-prepared powder was single phase, crystalline, and has a cubic perovskite structure (ABO3) with a lattice constant a = 4.19 Å. The average particle size calculated from FWHM is 30 nm. The phase purity of BaZrO3 nanopowder has been examined using differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and Fourier transform of infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The transmission electron microscopic investigation has shown that the particle size of the as-prepared powder was in the range 30–50 nm with a mean size of 40 nm. The nano BaZrO3 has been sintered to a density of 99% of the theoretical density at 1650 °C in 2 h without the use of any sintering aids. The morphology of the sintered pellets has been studied with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The dielectric constant (r) and loss factor (tan δ) values obtained at 10 MHz for a well-sintered barium zirconate pellet has been found to be 32.2 and 1 × 10−4, respectively, at room temperature. 相似文献

A random lattice fluid model with finite coordination number is a versatile molecular-based lattice fluid equation of state, but this model fails to reproduce the non-analytical, singular behavior of fluids in the critical region. In this work, a method of obtaining the classical critical properties is presented in the random lattice fluid model. This model is combined with the crossover theory to obtain the crossover random lattice fluid model and to calculate the thermodynamic properties of hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide. This crossover random lattice fluid model presents much better agreement with experimental data near to and far from the critical region than the classical random lattice fluid model. 相似文献
