This paper presents the pressureless preparation of fully dense and crack-free SiOC ceramics via direct photo-crosslinking and pyrolysis of a polysiloxane. Elemental analysis revealed the presence of high levels of carbon in the SiOC ceramics. Thus, the samples showed the highest content (78-86 mol%) of segregated “free” carbon reported so far. XRD investigations indicated that the materials prepared at 1100 °C were X-ray amorphous, whereas the sample prepared at 1400 °C contained a turbostratic graphite-like phase and silicon carbide as crystalline phases, as additionally confirmed by TEM and Raman spectroscopy. Vickers hardness was measured to be 5.5-8.6 GPa. The dc resistivity of the prepared material at 1100 °C was 0.35 Ω m, whereas the ceramic pyrolyzed at 1400 °C showed a value of 0.14 Ω m; both values are much lower than those of other known SiOC materials. This latter feature was attributed to the presence of a percolating carbon network in the ceramic.  相似文献

In this study, transparent conducting nanocrystalline ZnO:Ga (GZO) films were deposited by dc magnetron sputtering at room temperature on polymers (and glass for comparison). Electrical resistivities of 8.8 × 10-4 and 2.2 × 10-3 Ω cm were obtained for films deposited on glass and polymers, respectively. The crack onset strain (COS) and the cohesive strength of the coatings were investigated by means of tensile testing. The COS is similar for different GZO coatings and occurs for nominal strains approx. 1%. The cohesive strength of coatings, which was evaluated from the initial part of the crack density evolution, was found to be between 1.3 and 1.4 GPa. For these calculations, a Young's modulus of 112 GPa was used, evaluated by nanoindentation.  相似文献

Oil recovery from corn fermentation co-products can provide feedstock for biodiesel production. The effects of physical and chemical processes on oil recovery from condensed corn distillers solubles (CCDS) were investigated. Heating disrupted physical interactions in the CCDS and increased oil recovery by 2.5-fold when temperature was increased from 25 to 59 °C. Oil recovery at acidic pH conditions was significantly greater than at alkaline pH. Oil recovery at alkaline pH was increased by heating and addition of the reducing agent, sodium metabisulfite. Oil extraction using polar solvents isopropanol and butanol achieved greater than 80% oil recovery. When oil was co-extracted with zein using hexane and ethanol as co-solvents, the greatest total oil recovery was achieved, 89%. Churning CCDS at pH 3.5, 50 °C for 3 h achieved up to 80% oil recovery. This study provides data for designing further effective methods for oil separation from corn ethanol co-products.  相似文献

The reaction of methanol steam reforming was studied in a carbon membrane reactor over a commercial CuO/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst (Süd-Chemie, G66 MR). Carbon molecular sieve membranes supplied by Carbon Membranes Ltd. were tested at 150 °C and 200 °C. The carbon membrane reactor was operated at atmospheric pressure and with vacuum at the permeate side, at 200 °C. High methanol conversion and hydrogen recovery were obtained with low carbon monoxide permeate concentrations. A sweep gas configuration was simulated with a one-dimensional model. The experimental mixed-gas permeance values at 200 °C were used in a mathematical model that showed a good agreement with the experimental data. The advantages of using water as sweep gas were investigated in what concerns methanol conversion and hydrogen recovery. The concentration of carbon monoxide at the permeate side was under 20 ppm in all simulation runs. These results indicate that the permeate stream can be used to feed a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell.  相似文献

Preparation and processing of conductive blends based on doped polyaniline (c‐PANI) or tetra‐aniline (c‐TANI) with epoxy resins is described. The dedoping of c‐PANI by the epoxy hardener, in the process of the blend curing, has been investigated by UV–vis–NIR spectroscopy. Classical amine hardeners lead to a quick increase of the blend resistivity during its processing, which can be correlated with the observed spectral features, characteristic of the deprotonation of c‐PANI. For these reasons, for further investigations, BF3‐amine complexes have been selected as curing agents. Using these hardeners and tuning the curing conditions (temperature and time), it is possible to obtain blends with resistivities down to 102 Ω·cm, depending on the type of the epoxy resin used. In general, resins with higher epoxy network densities give c‐PANI‐based blends of lower percolation thresholds. The effect of the c‐PANI processing solvent on the resistivity of the resulting blend is even more pronounced than the epoxy network density. In particular, blends processed from toluene show much higher resistivities than those processed from tetrahydrofuran (THF) of ethylacetate (EA). Above the percolation threshold, c‐TANI‐based epoxy blends show at least three orders of magnitude higher resistivities than their c‐PANI analogues. They are however technologically interesting, because they are not very sensitive to the processing/curing conditions and show lower percolation thresholds. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Background

Although animal and human studies have demonstrated interactions between dietary choline and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, dietary choline deficiency in pregnancy is common in the US and worldwide. We sought to develop and validate a quantitative food frequency questionnaire (QFFQ) to estimate usual daily choline intake in pregnant mothers.

Methods

A panel of nutrition experts developed a Choline-QFFQ food item list, including sources with high choline content and the most commonly consumed choline-containing foods in the target population. A data base for choline content of each item was compiled. For reliability and validity testing in a prospective longitudinal cohort, 123 heavy drinking Cape Coloured pregnant women and 83 abstaining/light-drinking controls were recruited at their first antenatal clinic visit. At 3 prenatal study visits, each gravida was interviewed about alcohol, smoking, and drug use, and administered a 24-hour recall interview and the Choline-QFFQ.

Results

Across all visits and assessments, > 78% of heavy drinkers and controls reported choline intake below the Dietary Reference Intakes adequate intake level (450 mg/day). Women reported a decrease in choline intake over time on the QFFQ. Reliability of the QFFQ across visits was good-to-acceptable for 2 of 4 group-level tests and 4 of 5 individual-level tests for both drinkers and controls. When compared with 24-hr recall data, validity of the QFFQ was good-to-acceptable for 3 of 4 individual-level tests and 3 of 5 group-level tests. For controls, validity was good-to-acceptable for all 4 individual-level tests and all 5 group-level tests.

Conclusions

To our knowledge, this is the first quantitative choline food frequency screening questionnaire to be developed and validated for use with both heavy and non-drinking pregnant women and the first to be used in the Cape Coloured community in South Africa. Given the high prevalence of inadequate choline intake and the growing evidence that maternal choline supplementation can mitigate some of the adverse effects of prenatal alcohol exposure, this tool may be useful for both research and future clinical outreach programs.

The development of reliable mathematical models for mass transport in crosslinked polymers and their thorough experimental validation are of substantial interest in the design of technical membrane processes or the assessment of polymer performance when applications such as functional films and protective coatings are concerned.The present study aims at the joint experimental and numerical characterisation of mass transport during water vapour sorption into physically crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) membranes. A mathematical model comprising both phase equilibrium and the respective mass transport mechanisms is proposed and verified by means of in situ sorption kinetic measurements. Drawing on the independent determination of equilibrium solvent uptake, the comparison of model calculations and experimental sorption data demonstrates that water transport in the crosslinked polymer membrane is successfully described by pure Fickian diffusion with a simple exponential expression for the solvent diffusion coefficient to account for its pronounced concentration dependency, allowing the latter to be specified quantitatively.  相似文献

The thermomechanical degradation and thermostabilization of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) have been studied using subsequent extrusion cycles under different temperature profiles. Primary and secondary antioxidants were used to avoid degradation process during extrusion. Melt flow index (MFI), size exclusion chromatography (SEC), and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis were used to evaluate the degradation and stabilization of PLA. The MFI and SEC analysis show that the main thermodegradation mechanism of PLA is governed by scission reactions. FTIR analysis confirmed the SEC results and showed that the synergetic effect between primary and secondary antioxidant is a suitable way to thermostabilize the PLA. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. ABSTRACT

A series of batch contact tests were conducted to evaluate the exchange behavior of Ba, Ca, Pb, and Sr onto crystalline silicotitanate (CST) in support of an expedited Cs removal and pretreatment system at the Hanford site. Binary Na/M2+ and ternary Na/Cs/M2+ isotherms were generated to understand selectivity, capacity, and competitive impact of each analyte on Cs uptake from a simple 1 M NaOH/4.6 M NaNO3 simulant. Analyte loading from a 0.1 M NaOH/5.5 M NaNO3 simulant was assessed to determine the effect of hydroxide concentration on binary Na/M2+ isotherms. Results from binary and ternary isotherms indicated that Group II metals Ca, Sr, and Ba (and Pb) do not impact CST performance toward Cs removal at concentrations expected in Hanford tank-waste supernate.  相似文献

Human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is located in discrete DNA-protein complexes, so called nucleoids. These structures can be easily visualized in living cells by utilizing the fluorescent stain PicoGreen®. In contrary, cells devoid of endogenous mitochondrial genomes (ρ0 cells) display no mitochondrial staining in the cytoplasm. A modified restriction enzyme can be targeted to mitochondria to cleave the mtDNA molecules in more than two fragments, thereby activating endogenous nucleases. By applying this novel enzymatic approach to generate mtDNA-depleted cells the destruction of mitochondrial nucleoids in cultured cells could be detected in a time course. It is clear from these experiments that mtDNA-depleted cells can be seen as early as 48 h post-transfection using the depletion system. To prove that mtDNA is degraded during this process, mtDNA of transfected cells was quantified by real-time PCR. A significant decline could be observed 24 h post-transfection. Combination of both results showed that mtDNA of transfected cells is completely degraded and, therefore, ρ0 cells were generated within 48 h. Thus, the application of a mitochondrially-targeted restriction endonuclease proves to be a first and fast, but essential step towards a therapy for mtDNA disorders.  相似文献
