The present research used validated cardiovascular measures to examine threat reactions among members of stigmatized groups when interacting with members of nonstigmatized groups who were, or were not, prejudiced against their group. The authors hypothesized that people's beliefs about the fairness of the status system would moderate their experience of threat during intergroup interactions. The authors predicted that for members of stigmatized groups who believe the status system is fair, interacting with a prejudiced partner, compared with interacting with an unprejudiced partner, would disconfirm their worldview and result in greater threat. In contrast, the authors predicted that for members of stigmatized groups who believe the system is unfair, interacting with a prejudiced partner, compared with interacting with an unprejudiced partner, would confirm their worldview and result in less threat. The authors examined these predictions among Latinas interacting with a White female confederate (Study 1) and White females interacting with a White male confederate (Study 2). As predicted, people's beliefs about the fairness of the status system moderated their experiences of threat during intergroup interactions, indicated both by cardiovascular responses and nonverbal behavior. In this study, we examined the association among perceptions of racial and/or ethnic discrimination, racial climate, and trauma-related symptoms among 289 racially diverse college undergraduates. Study measures included the Perceived Stress Scale, the Perceived Ethnic Discrimination Questionnaire, the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist—Civilian Version, and the Racial Climate Scale. Results of a multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) indicated that Asian and Black students reported more frequent experiences of discrimination than did White students. Additionally, the MANOVA indicated that Black students perceived the campus racial climate as being more negative than did White and Asian students. A hierarchical regression analysis showed that when controlling for generic life stress, perceptions of discrimination contributed an additional 10% of variance in trauma-related symptoms for Black students, and racial climate contributed an additional 7% of variance in trauma symptoms for Asian students. A compact coplanar waveguide‐fed (CPW) monopole antenna for ultra‐wideband wireless communication is presented. The proposed antenna comprises of a CPW‐fed beveled rectangular patch with a modified slotted ground. The overall size of the antenna is 30 mm × 27 mm × 1.6 mm. The lower edge of the band is attained by properly decoupling the resonant frequencies due to the extended ground plane and the beveled rectangular patch of the antenna. The upper edge of the radiating band is enhanced by beveling the ground plane corners near the feed point. Experimental results show that the designed antenna operates in the 2.7–12 GHz band, for S11 ≤ ?10 dB with a gain of 2.7–5 dBi. Both the frequency domain and time domain characteristics of the antenna are investigated using antenna transfer function. Tested the implication of A. R. Luria's (1961, 1969) theory that children under 5 yrs of age would have more difficulty obeying instructions to inhibit a response the greater the intensity (loudness) of the instruction; this should not be true for children over 5 yrs of age. In the present study, 18 younger children (aged 3 yrs 6 mo to 4 yrs 9 mo) and 18 older children (aged 4 yrs 10 mo to 6 yrs 4 mo) played a game in which they were to follow instructions and either perform or refrain from performing simple acts. Instructions were loud, medium, or soft in intensity. Results for younger Ss were clear and significant in supporting Luria's theory. For older Ss, however, results do not neatly fit Luria's theory: Increased intensity facilitated compliance with instructions to inhibit a response. In a majority conversion process, the vertices of a graph can be in one of the two states, colored or uncolored, and these states are dynamically updated so that a vertex becomes colored at a certain time period if at least half of its neighbors were in the colored state in the previous time period. A dynamic monopoly is a set of vertices in a graph that when initially colored will eventually cause all vertices in the graph to become colored. This paper establishes a connection between dynamic monopolies and the well-known feedback vertex sets which are sets of vertices whose removal results in an acyclic graph. More specifically, we show that dynamic monopolies and feedback vertex sets are equivalent in graphs wherein all vertices have degree 2 or 3. We use this equivalence to provide exact values for the minimum size of dynamic monopolies of planar hexagonal grids, as well as upper and lower bounds on the minimum size of dynamic monopolies of cylindrical and toroidal hexagonal grids. The determination of inhibitory effects that lead compounds have on cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes is an important part of today's drug discovery process. Assays can be performed early in the discovery process to predict adverse drug-drug interactions caused by CYP inhibition and to minimize the costs associated with terminating candidates in late stage development or worse, removing a drug from the market after launch. For early discovery work, testing substantial numbers of compounds is desirable, thus automated "mix and read" assays are beneficial. Here, we demonstrate the automation of the CYP profiling process using a simple, yet robust robotic platform. Compound titration, as well as transfer of compounds and assay components was performed by the same automated pipetting system. IC(50)s of small molecule drugs were determined using recombinant CYP enzymes, CYP3A4, -2C9, and -2D6 and luminogenic substrates specific to each. In the present study, we develop a model to predict new product performance incorporating the literature on top management team (TMT) composition, trustworthiness, knowledge sharing and task reflexivity in organizations. We hypothesize that diversity and trustworthiness in the TMT should influence knowledge sharing and reflexivity and reflexivity and knowledge sharing would be positively associated with new product performance. We test the model using data collected from 39 indigenous software firms in Ireland. Results indicate that age diversity was positively related to knowledge sharing ability while educational level, tenure and functional diversity of the TMT did not have any direct effect on reflexivity or knowledge sharing ability or motivation. However, educational level of TMT, tenure and age diversity had indirect effects on reflexivity and knowledge sharing through the intervening variable of TMT trustworthiness. Further, knowledge sharing and task reflexivity had direct effects on market new product performance. Implications for research and practice are discussed. 相似文献
