Objective: PREDICT-HD is a large-scale international study of people with the Huntington disease (HD) CAG-repeat expansion who are not yet diagnosed with HD. The objective of this study was to determine the stage in the HD prodrome at which cognitive differences from CAG-normal controls can be reliably detected. Method: For each of 738 HD CAG-expanded participants, we computed estimated years to clinical diagnosis and probability of diagnosis in 5 years based on age and CAG-repeat expansion number (Langbehn, Brinkman, Falush, Paulsen, & Hayden, 2004). We then stratified the sample into groups: NEAR, estimated to be ≤9 years; MID, between 9 and 15 years; and FAR, ≥15 years. The control sample included 168 CAG-normal participants. Nineteen cognitive tasks were used to assess attention, working memory, psychomotor functions, episodic memory, language, recognition of facial emotion, sensory–perceptual functions, and executive functions. Results: Compared with the controls, the NEAR group showed significantly poorer performance on nearly all of the cognitive tests and the MID group on about half of the cognitive tests (p = .05, Cohen's d NEAR as large as ?1.17, MID as large as ?0.61). One test even revealed significantly poorer performance in the FAR group (Cohen's d = ?0.26). Individual tasks accounted for 0.2% to 9.7% of the variance in estimated proximity to diagnosis. Overall, the cognitive battery accounted for 34% of the variance; in comparison, the Unified Huntington's Disease Rating Scale motor score accounted for 11.7%. Conclusions: Neurocognitive tests are robust clinical indicators of the disease process prior to reaching criteria for motor diagnosis of HD. This paper presents the application of the Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller for voltage and frequency regulation of an isolated hybrid wind-diesel scheme. The scheme essentially consists of a vertical axis wind turbine driving a self-excited induction generator connected via an asynchronous (AC-DC-AC) link to a synchronous generator driven by a diesel engine. The synchronous generator is equipped with a voltage regulator and a static exciter. The wind generator and the synchronous generator together cater for the local load and power requirement. However, the load bus voltage and frequency are governed by the synchronous generator. The control objective aims to regulate the load voltage and frequency. This is accomplished via controlling the field voltage and rotational speed of the synchronous generator. The complete nonlinear dynamic model of the system has been described and linearized around an operating point. The standard Kalman filter technique has been employed to estimate the full states of the system. The computational burden has been minimized to a great extent by computing the optimal state feedback gains and the Kalman state space model off-line. The proposed controller has the advantages of robustness, fast response and good performance. The hybrid wind diesel energy scheme with the proposed controller has been tested through a step change in both wind speed and load impedance. Simulation results show that accurate tracking performance of the proposed hybrid wind diesel energy system has been achieved. 相似文献
The chemical composition of black teas (Camellia sinensis L) varies when the green leaf from which they are manufactured is withered physically to the same degree but for different periods. Caffeine contents progressively increase with prolonged withering time whereas theaflavins decrease due to prolonged withering. Although the sums of group I and group II volatile flavour compounds (VFC) decrease with prolonged withering time, the flavour index (expressed as group II VFC/group I VFC) increases due to prolonged withering. No significant changes were noted in the thearubigin levels with variation in withering time, but the tasters' evaluations were at a maximum for teas withered for 14 h. Subsequently the evaluation decreased with longer withering times. 相似文献
Green leaf standard, chemical composition and quality of black tea (Camellia sinensis (L) O Kuntze) change with plucking intervals. Long plucking intervals lead to poor leaf standard with a lot of mature leaves and lower theaflavins, the sum of volatile flavour compounds imparting a sweet flowery aroma (group II volatile flavour compounds), caffeine contents and tasters' evaluations of black tea. The sum of volatile flavour compounds imparting inferior, grassy, green flavour (group I volatile flavour compounds) to tea, however, increases with long plucking intervals. 相似文献
2D and 3D beam synthesis from different antenna array arrangements are investigated in this paper. Planar sunflower, conformal cylinderical and spherical helical array arrangements are studied. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is used to predict the phase distribution on the array elements. The beam synthesis is achieved by comparing the array factor with a predetermined mask with both upper and lower limits according to the intented application requirements. Different 2D and 3D masks are used in beam synthesis as pencil, flat-top, and cosecant single beam are predicted. The planar sunflower antenna array is investigated due to its high gain, low side-lobe level (SLL) below ??20 dB and its compact size. The phase distribution of sunflower array is estimated using PSO to radiate dual-beams in different planes. Dual-beam with pencil, flat-top, and cosecant beams are obtained with different half-power beam widths. 3D conformal antenna arrays of cylindrical and spherical helical arrangements are studied. Each 3D conformal array consists of four arms shifted in position by 90° orintation angle. Each arm is designed to radiate single beam in a specific direction. Four-beams are considered to radiate in the directions of θ1,2,3,4?=?30°, and ?1?=?0°, ?2?=?90°, ?3?=?180°, and ?4?=?270° with SLL optimized below ??17 dB. The array arrangements analysis is based on the array theory formulation, through the implemention of the estimiated equation using a home programmed MATLAB code.
In this paper, we propose a clustering approach for solving the problem of reconstructing cross-cut shredded documents. This problem is important in the field of forensic science. Unlike other clustering approaches which are applied as a preprocessing step before the actual reconstruction algorithms, our clustering approach is part of the reconstruction process itself. We define a new cost function which mainly relies on black pixels to measure the cost of pairing two shreds together. The reconstruction algorithm creates multiple clusters which grow by adding additional shreds based on the cost function. Adding a shred may result in merging two or more clusters to produce a larger cluster. We, also, propose a way to involve the user in the reconstruction process. We compare our approach with a recent proposal and conclude that our approach gives better solutions in less time. 相似文献
In this work polyacrylamide (PACM) was prepared by radical polymerization technique using ammonium persulfate (APS) as initiator under nitrogen atmosphere. The viscosity average molecular weight of the prepared PACM was found to be 177858. The free amino groups of PACM, poly(2-methoxyaniline) was grafted by the oxidation of 2-methoxyaniline using APS in acidic medium under nitrogen atmosphere. The grafting percent is found to be 96%. The morphology of the obtained PACM and PACM-g-P2-MeOANI was studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The grafting process enhances the morphology of both PACM and poly(2-methoxyaniline). The inhibiting effect of the three polymers on the mild steel corrosion in the 1.0?M HCl as aggressive environments have been measured gravimetrically at three different temperatures 25, 40 and 55?°C and electrically at 25?°C. The inhibition efficiencies of the three tested polymers were found to increase with temperature. The poly(2-methoxyaniline) is the most effective one as a corrosion inhibitor at all tested temperatures. The adsorption behavior of the polymers was found to follow Villamil isotherm and the values of the change in free energy refer to a mixed chemical and physical adsorption on the steel surface. Tafel curves indicate that the tested polymers act as mixed anodic and cathodic inhibitor. The double layer capacitance was found to decrease with increasing the inhibitor concentration. 相似文献
Controlling the electromechanical response of piezoelectric biological structures including tissues, peptides, and amino acids provides new applications for biocompatible, sustainable materials in electronics and medicine. Here, the piezoelectric effect is revealed in another class of biological materials, with robust longitudinal and shear piezoelectricity measured in single crystals of the transmembrane protein ba3 cytochrome c oxidase from Thermus thermophilus. The experimental findings from piezoresponse force microscopy are substantiated using a range of control measurements and molecular models. The observed longitudinal and shear piezoelectric responses of ≈ 2 and 8 pm V−1, respectively, are comparable to or exceed the performance of commonly used inorganic piezoelectric materials including quartz, aluminum nitride, and zinc oxide. This suggests that transmembrane proteins may provide, in addition to physiological energy transduction, technologically useful piezoelectric material derived entirely from nature. Membrane proteins could extend the range of rationally designed biopiezoelectric materials far beyond the minimalistic peptide motifs currently used in miniaturized energy harvesters, and the finding of robust piezoelectric response in a transmembrane protein also raises fundamental questions regarding the molecular evolution, activation, and role of regulatory proteins in the cellular nanomachinery, indicating that piezoelectricity might be important for fundamental physiological processes. 相似文献
